“Two rings, Ricki! One on each hand!”
“But why though?”
“The act of smiffing a ring draws upon the magical essence of a dungeon, but once created, rings draw power from inside your body in order to actually function.”
“If you wear too many, they’ll use up too much of your energy and your internal organs will shut down. Most people can handle two, very, very few can handle three or more.”
“And if you wear them lopsided, the flow of power concentrates into one arm. It feels like you’re carrying a heavy weight, and can severely damage your joints and tendons in the same way if you’re not careful.”
“It’s true. I saw a guy try to wear five on one hand once.”
“Goodness. He must have lost his arm.”
“No, we found it. Eventually.”
“…And no, that’s not what happened to me.”
There is the opening, Ricki. Ask him what did happen.
And thanks to Mac for the warning about multiple rings.
Seconded! ASK! Backstory time!
OoO maaaayybbbeee???
Oh, so THAT’s why he opened his shop in a dungeon
My thought is why did that idiot go the super-lopsided route?
But honestly while Rikki’s theory certainly was elegant with the info she’s got, I personally imagined mister disarmed as basically learning why rocket punches went out of fashion.
maybe he wanted to put another 5 on the other?
or maybe he calculated that limb damage was preferable to the organ damage that would come from spreading them out?
so that, if it goes wrong, as it did, he at least keeps his life and remaining limb.
I don’t think that whoever put on five rings did any thinking. Could’ve been someone like Ricki but without the friends nearby to explain, could’ve been a drunken bet or dare.
So you’re saying that people who can handle more than two rings do exist? Might show up as an ability, though it’d be a powerful one.
We’ll see what this means for Kamau. He can carry a heavy weight without much trouble, but that’s just what lopsided rings feel like. There’s nothing in his One-Handed ability about rings at the moment.
> And if you wear them lopsided, (..). It feels like you’re carrying a heavy weight
enter Steal-1:
> Steal I: (..) can try to take one item from an enemy. (..) An item that is held or worn has only a 50% chance to (..). Items have a -10% chance to be taken for each point of weight heavier than 1.
I suppose we won’t be able to place a third ring on an enemy that way. (1) it says ‘take’, (2) 50% chance lost upfront by ‘worn’ (3) more rings placed = more weight = less chance of success.
I think higher levels of Steal could allow for such trick, but … at +1 ring over the normal 2, I think we can’t expect anything spectacular. 1 dmg? or -1atk/def? something like that. This could mean we actually could try to wear it, but I don’t want to try out with our current team. Kamau mentioned spectacular effects of wearing five, and that’s +3 rings, three turns, and with ‘magical weight’ it’d mean ridiculously small chances.
I’m still interested in rats though. Rat. Tail. Put on X rings on its tail, spaced as evenly and as far as possible, and throw the rat. For science! xD
I wonder how many rings can a rat king wear?
[removed nsfw joke] (damn, where’s the delete button?)
I love the rollercoaster of that exchange.
“Goodness. He must have lost his arm.” – Sounds gruesome.
“No,” – Oh, was he okay?
“we found it.” – Ah, not okay then.
“Eventually.” – Really not okay.
