Dungeon 7 Turn 46
————
With the potatobeast gone, Lohk opens the chest it was guarding. Inside she finds some robes, which she tries on for fun after discarding her torch. She thinks she’s probably too old to really pull them off, but at least they’re comfortable.
Kamau uses his gardening glove to pick all of the carrots that Ricki points out for him. While wearing the glove, the vegetables pop clean out of the ground with barely a touch, allowing him to uproot all four carrots at once.
Ricki uses her last magic lens on one of the snapper plants. Apparently they’re called flytraps, though she’s pretty sure they eat more than just flies.
“Huh. Apparently these things are supposed to protect other plants?”
“yes they are good good boys”
“So how come they’re protecting that chest instead?”
“they used to be protecting all these chests before the other plant creatures grew suddenly”
“the things kept here were special to my mom”
“they belonged to her friends”
“Your mom? What happened to her?”
“you’re standing on one of her leaves”
“Oh, sorry.”
“its okay”
Macadamia goes looking for more chickens and roosters to kill, but he doesn’t find any.

MONK ROBES
Armour
Atk +2 and Def +2 if not wielding a weapon or shield.
Weight 1, Cost 25
FLYTRAP
HP: 4
Atk: 3
Def: 2
Abilities: +2 Atk against undead, +2 damage from fire, immobile
A strange plant creature only found in the presence of certain other extremely rare plants. They seem to have some kind of symbiotic relationship with these other plants, protecting them if as best they can despite not being able to move. In practice, though, all they can really do is mindlessly attack anything that gets close to them.
Those Robes would be nice with Lara’s Cloth Prof. With the some rings and maybe a helmet she’d have decent Def and a lot more inventory slots.
Monk robes are likely for our next character, the undead ninja. We should hold on to them.
They could also go well with plant lady. I have a feeling she won’t work as a frontline melee tank character and that she’ll be more of a backline supporter like Lohk.
So the wording of the monk robes
kind of makes me wonder… will it “work” for Kamau and Lohk at all (as long as they don’t WIELD their hilt/cane – or a shield or any other weapon), or will they never be able to get the benefit of the monk armour at all, because they both won’t trade “away” their respective signature weapons?
I’m suspecting that the bonus should work for both of them (theoretically, because we’ll probably never have Kamau NOT use a shield), but clarification from LSN would be nice.
And yeah, imagine Lara with the monk robes and a pair of crit greaves and braces! 😀
As setup for sending Kamau in to loot the flytrap chest, Kamau should drop the gloves, the eggs, and the corn spear, and then trade his normal shield for mac’s heavy shield. If possible Mac should also pick up the carrots. Then next turn Kamau can loot the chest without taking any damage
Taking 1 damage isn’t a big deal at this stage.
…as long as it is 1 damage on Kamau! (otherwise: remorse)
It’s still somewhat possible that the plant lady could distract at least one of them by petting/etc. IMHO, worth trying to ask her about that. IMHO, also worth trying to ask if she doesn’t mind us touching that chest, since it is/was her mom’s
Plan: Loot and Leave in 3 turns (before Saturday).
Kamau: Interpose on Flytraps
Ricki: Loot Flytrap chest and move to carrots
Lhok: Move up and Right and Join Mac
Mac: Keep watch for chickens.
Next turn: Depending on Chest results, we will trade/move everyone to pick up carrots.
Turn after: Move and End Dungeon.
This avoids the potentially more risky onions and chicken variables and also lets us pick our level ups over this weekend! Yay us!
“we will trade/move everyone to pick up carrots.” Um, there are all those carrots downstairs, which Kamau has no free inventory to carry. We move people up, doing nothing there, and then the next turn down again?
Up was just to get eyes above so chickens dont surprise us. We move others who need their inventory swapped next turn if we need to.
Next turn details are really just dependent on chest outcome
If this room is full of Monk treasure, I feel like we should open all chests here.
I know it is assuming a lot, but I’m just going with what is said on this page and the what appears to be a martial artist passing out in a KoFi image.
We would need to fetch a tool set from the barn to open the corn chest, thought. – Open the Fly trap chest: definitively!
So for stuff left to (feasibly) loot, we’ve got a pile of carrots to the up-left, the carrots in this room, and the snapper chest, right? I don’t want to risk trying to get by the potential chickens to get anything out of the barn.
Kamau taking 1 damage this turn to loot the snapper chest shouldn’t be a big deal. We can do that and then run, unless I’m missing anything?
There is the single tomato at the potato beast’s chest, which we probably pick up only if it does not cost us any additional time and we have an otherwise empty item slot.
Since the loot in this cave are keepsakes from her mom, maybe she’d like to have the robes? Would save us an inventory slot.
“Kamau: drop eggs (gently!) and gloves, loot the fly trap chest, move to the bottom of the stalk.”
and some actions & movement by other people.
My suggestion:
Kamau: drop eggs (gently) near carrots, go past the flytraps and loot their chest, move up.
Mac: Move back down underground, in a safe place to trade, put your armor and shield in Molly’s pack in exchange for crow call and potion.
Ricki: Trade items with Mac, as above stated, then move up and left
Lohk: move up, left
Mac gets two spaces so he can vacuum up carrots and eggs next turn, as ricki vacuums up carrots and Kamau facetanks the drop so the rope is again available. Not much left to do with Lohk, but picking the last carrot next turn, as her inventory has only Weight-1 items we don’t wanna drop.
Can you please add that IF whatever is in that chest needs more than 1 inventory slot Kamau should drop the (surplus) loot from the chest in a SAFE spot and not behind the flytraps? That way another char can pick it up next turn without having to brave the flytraps. 🙂
Unclear he can do that unfortunately.
I can no longer edit the plan. Sorry 🙁
So right now our status quo concerning produce is this:
Ricki
2 corn (2*1+3 = 5 T!)
1 onion (1*1+3=4 T!)
3 potatoes (3*1+3= 6 T!)
5 tomatoes (5*1+3 = 8 T!)
Kamau
3 eggs (3*1+3= 6T!)
worth atm: 5+4+6+8+6 = 29 gold (because treasure)
free slots atm: Ricki 1
Still available (iirc):
4 carrots, 1 tomatoe (picked, underground “mom” room)
4 onions (unpicked, potentially dangerous, underground “mom” room)
6 carrots (5 picked, 1 still in ground) in treehouse room)
1 egg, 1 onion (picked), barn coop room)
7 tomatoes, 2 sets of thieves tools in the room left of Manny
1 set of thieves tools in upper barn skeleton room (above coop). Not sure if we left one regular shield in that room too, or if we started this dungeon with 2 regular shields only. If there is one shield in that room, that is worth 20/2 = 10 gold for one inventory slot.
The “most bang for the buck” (or the most value for the inventory slot) we know of would be to pick up 5 carrots with Ricki in her empty slot (for another 5*1+3= 8T! gold). (Provided there is no shield in the upper left barn room to pick up.)
Close second “worthy” enterprise (and not costing an inventory slot) would be to get the 4 additional onions (+4 gold; +12 in combo with the full carrot stack mentioned above, in sum a total of 41 gold for produce) to make Ricki’s stack full, but that is poentially dangerous. However, I think that Kamau would be able to pick all 4 onions “at once” (because of the way this update was worded with the carrots)
which in turns makes me think that it should be safe for him to pick them (he has 8 Def, so getting hit by 4 stink damage shouldn’t be a problem. However, if the 4 stink damage STACK because in this case Kamau is picking all 4 onions by himself, 4 times 4 would be 16 damage and he would lose 4 HP, so this idea IS risky, even if no other chars are around to smell the onions. If Kamau picking the first onion somehow triggers the other ones to explode (despite the update wording), that would mean 4 stink damage from the first onion plus 3*2 AoE explosion damage for Kamau and he would not take any damage at all (12- 10 = 2 surplus Def).
Anything beyond the abovementioned options would require to strip our chars down even further (e.g. putting Kamau’s plate armour would free up a whopping 5 inventory space) or leaving behind loot (I would like to keep the garden gloves, because I believe they will have a beneficial effect on the people left behind at the manor and their farming, and also the monk robes, because I think they are pretty nice and we have some inventory space at the manor now, so it would be good to keep some equipment to be able to swap it around to suit the characters going and/or the destination they are going to).
Anyway. TL,DR: we currently have 29 gold worth of produce even if we leave right now. if we sell the crow call (18 gold) and the greater healing potion (because we will get a regular one if we take Lohk with us into the next dungeon, anyways) which is 17/2 = 8,5 gold, then we will have in sum 56 ( 29+18+8 + 1 from Lara staying behind) be able to afford one character specific manor upgrade (50 gold) and replace 3 arrows, if we are so inclined.
(We might want to sell other stuff, so we can buy new silver rings (e.g. wand of fireball is worth 45/2 = 22,5 gold) for Mac to craft, if we are going to bring him along with us in the next dungeon.)
Btw. I’m not saying we should leave right now. I just wanted to know where we stand, wealth-wise and I am rather hopeful we can build Kamau’s apartment in the manor soon. (Or any other char specific upgrade, but I have to admit, I am probably the most curious for Kamau’s background. Plus 1 more HP on our main tank is also nothing to sneeze at. Conssidering the bond level thresholds, either Kamau or Lohk would proabably make the most sense to upgrade sooner rather than later.)
Kamau: Carefully place down eggs purse and corn spear to insure you can carry whatever comes out of the chest. Then loot pitcher plant chest and get back out of their range.
Ricki: Drop a tomato with the leftover tomato by the empty chest, then go upstairs and left to pick the last carrot.
Mac: Trade inventory to put Lohk’s ring of protection onto Mac and give Mac’s ring of aggression to
Lohk.
Lohk: Do the above trade then drop your shield with Kamau’s carrots picked last turn.
Explanation: gets us ready to pick onions on the following turn, and guarantees we will be able to loot the chest behind the plants. The tomato drop is to enable Lohk to feed the pumpkin and get Ricki by to grab thieves tools so we can get the final accessible chest.
Could you please elaborate on the “gets us ready to pick onions on the following turn”?
Do you want to try it with Kamau and the garden gloves alone, or do you want every char to grab one onion?
Because in the latter case, everyone would need 8 Def, because of the -4 debuff and the onion stink dealing 4 damage on the picker. I think this would need a lot more inventory swapping than you suggested.
—
The best plan to give everyone 8 Def (or as close as that would be possible) I can come up with would be:
Kamau: plate only (3 innate +5 = 8); frees up helmet and shield and corn spear
Ricki: (1 innate + 3 bat armour (with skill) + 3 magma shield + 1 corn spear (allows to pass 1 ring to Lohk) = 8)
Mac: (1 innate + 3 heavy shield + 2 wolf armour + 1 daisy + 1 crow call (divine) = 8)
Lohk: (1 innate + 2 shield + 2 from 2 rings (one traded from Ricki) +1 helmet = 6
Theoretically, we could try to equip another shield +2 on Lohk for the 8 that are needed BUT it is really questionable, if LSN will let someone benefit from 2 shields at the same time… Point in case: everyone except Kamau would at least be able to “wield” two shields, so there’s that.
EDIT: typo
Check my suggestion for how to pick onions – should work with only Kamau.
Kamau can pick 2 onions with 12 defense (8 defense after debuff). Mac and Ricki can each pick 1 because they can each have 8 defense.
Actual layout below:
Ricki:
Natural defense: 1
Bat Hide: 2
Light Armor Prof: 1
Ring of Protection: 1
Magma Shield: 3
Debuff: -4
Total: 4
Macadamia:
Natural Defense: 1
Daisy: 1
Wolf Hide: 2
Heavy Shield: 3
Added ring of protection: 1
Debuff: -4
Total: 4
Kamau:
Natural defense: 3
Plate armor: 5
Heavy Armor Prof: 1
Helmet: 1
Shield: 2
Debuff: -4
Total: 8
Thanks for elaborating. I am a bit wary about the possibility of Kamau picking two onions by himself possibly triggering the AoE explosion damage (because it doesn’t happen “at once” after all, even with the garden glove, for some reason), which in turn would mean remorse.
Therefore I prefer Jingles ‘ plan for next turn/the onion uprooting. While it might net us only one onion in the worst case (Kamau pulls up the first and causes the other 3 to explode), it is still safer concerning the level-up of Kamau happening. It kind of sucks risking him losing up to 8 HP (no onion exploding, but the stink damage of all 4 stacking, triggering dauntless, if I counted Def and remaining HP correctly), but then again we are planing on leaving very soon and without any more fighting (LSN willing… ). Plus, we will learn more about the garden gloves that way.
I mean Kamau just picked all 4 carrots at once this turn, so it seems like it should work to me. Maybe it isn’t worth the risk though.
A plan modified from Siv’s that allows for Kamau to loot the snapper chest, carrying out up to 3 enc of items just in case. Plan for next turn is to have Ricki gather the stuff on the floor, Mac gather the carrots we left to the left, have Kamau try picking onions* with everyone else safely distanced, then go up and leave the dungeon.
Kamau: drop eggs (gently), corn spear and coin purse near carrots, go past the flytraps and loot their chest, move back down to the carrot/loot pile area.
Mac: Move left 1 screen, put your armor and shield in Molly’s pack in exchange for crow call, potion, and a stack of tomatoes. Left 1 more screen, to where the carrots were piled.
Ricki: Drop 1 onion near the carrots. Go up 1 screen, trade items with Mac, as above stated.
Lohk: Ask the druid her name, see if she has anything to say about your new robe. Move up 1 screen.
*Picking onions with the gloves should have an acceptable result, so long as no one else is nearby. Possible results:
– The gloves are really good, no damage taken
– A total of 4 damage for picking all 4 onions – no damage taken after defense.
– A total of 16 damage for picking all 4 onions, meaning 4 makes it through Kamau’s defense. Given that we’re leaving this turn, that should be acceptable – he’ll still have 3 health and Dauntless.
– Only 1 onion successfully picked. 4 damage + (2 x 3 AoE) = 10 damage – no damage taken. Still get at least one onion.
Kamau would take 8 damage from all 4 onions due to the defense debuff.
