Dungeon 7 Turn 32
————
Lohk freezes another chicken to death while Macadamia takes a closer look at the coop. He can’t fit through the tiny door in it, nor through the feed slot. He also isn’t sure if it’d be a good idea even if he could, since he can hear dozens of chickens inside. He’s no expert, but they sound as though they are moderately satisfied with the amount of food they’ve been getting. He also notices that the coop looks like it’s probably indestructible. Some kind of weird dungeon thing, he guesses.
Ricki and Kamau trade a bunch of inventory items, except for one onion which gets dropped on the ground. Ricki then heads to the right.
Nothing new here. Even the giant pile of items was undisturbed.
Plan: Maximize action efficiency and get ready to leave.
Kamau: Feed corn spear to coop.
Mac: Kill a chicken
Lhok: Move right and pickup 2 corn
Ricki: Lens Manny (Bull)
Ricki needs to lens, fill up her inventory, and feed coop corn. I’m hoping to save a turn by using lhok and having the corn spear count as a corn for the coop (i am interpreting moderately satisfied as at 50%, so needs another 3). Kamau can go pickup a replacement corn next turn if we want. Were just looking for things the others can do while Ricki does her stuff.
Ricki: Lens the Bull Mammoth and move one screen to the left. (a.ka. Manny – we need to know if he can be pacified)
Macadamia: Kill the last remaining chicken near the coop (we need to keep the coop area clear so a pet can have the chance to spawn)
K: go right one screen and eat the birthday cake (Kamau needs to heal)
L: go right one screen and grab all the corn from the pile (to feed to the coop later)

Does he? He still has more HP than anyone else except Lohk, and we’re getting ready to leave soon – aren’t we? Seems like we should, considering that he’s one remorse point away from catatonia.
If we’re concerned that we might need him to interpose as we leave the dungeon, whatever damage we’re worried about would have to be more than 18 to kill him, if my math is correct (12 armor + 5 HP + with Dauntless you have to get him to -1 to actually kill him). It seems unlikely that Manny or the creepy pumpkin can put out that much in a single turn – and even less likely that giving Kamau one extra HP would be the difference between life and death.
Why not give the cake to Macadamia instead? At 2 HP he seems much more in danger if things go sideways.
Good plan otherwise, except maybe Lohk should grab Ricki’s corn (3 ears) instead of the floor corn (2 ears last time I looked).
Right now we don’t know if that massive pile of chickens downstairs will attack on the way out, so healing Kamau so he can interpose might be worth it if we’re not trying to leave another way.
It takes both Ricki and Lohk’s action to get Ricki’s corn onto Lohk, so that’s why it’s better for Lohk to grab the floor corn. Additionally, Kamau doesn’t really have much better to do this turn than eat the cake. We can’t take the cake out without dropping an item that’s actually worth something, so we might as well have Kamau eat it.
Separately, your math on dauntless isn’t quite right. Dauntless sets Kamau’s hp to 1 regardless of the damage he takes in a turn. He can’t die from damage taken in one single turn. The point of healing Kamau is that it increases the amount of damage he can take before dauntless triggers, which could be important.
Does Dauntless actually work like that? I think it doesn’t matter if Kamau gets hit to 0, -1, or -oblivion. I always thought that all the damage and healing is assigned at once, then as much HP as possible is gained/lost (down to 0 HP at worst, up to max-hp at best), and then all the “overflown” healing/damage is just lost. THEN the combat ends, and then the Dauntless would trigger, ‘reviving’ Kamau right after the combat, and he’d die only if he gets new damage right after the combat for some reason.
And since I think that Dauntless works like I just said, I agree even more that it makes much more sense to give the cake to anyone else (especially considering that IF anyone else is hit for any amount of HP, then Kamau is OUT and it’s irrelevant if he’s out with current health or one more).
Does picking up unguarded items take an action?
If not, I’m thinking we could swap Mac and Lohk’s role so Mac can go grab the corn, move back and feed the coop all in one turn while Lohk kills the last chicken instead?
Could also have Ricki move left after lensing Bull.
Yes, it takes an action. Picking up an item, guarded or not: 1 action. Dropping an item: Free, unless someone is picking it up that same turn, in which case it is counted as trading and costs each person one action.
Edited to move left after lensing bull. Good call.
