Dungeon 7 Turn 11
————
Ricki returns to the previous area and pulls up the second plant from the left (not counting the tree). This turns out to be some kind of onion, and it smells terrible. In fact, the smell is SO bad, that it even causes the other nearby onion to explode while it’s still in the ground!! Ricki’s various armour items just barely protect her from taking damage from the awful stink, but Molly takes 2 damage. She tucks the single onion she picked into her inventory, but the one that exploded in the ground appears to be a write-off.
Kamau drinks the healing potion while also being healed by Lohk, recovering 5 HP in total.
Macadamia smifs his spear into a silver ring, producing an upgrade of the rings of aggression that the party has been using thus far. He then explores the next room.
“Hello, little animal! Do you seek entry to the barn?”
“I would be perfectly willing to let you enter… for a price.”
“Feed me a vegetable! I can smell some nearby!”
“I’m in such a generous mood, that I’ll even let any of your little friends pass with you!”
“Or, if you prefer, you could try your luck in deadly combat… but I wouldn’t recommend it.”
Macadamia finds himself immediately accosted by a giant talking pumpkin. He is physically unable to form an opinion on this. He wants to go ask someone else what to do about it.

Real winners quit, let’s dip.
Give him the onion bomb and all go into the barn together (Kamau interposing on entry obvs)
onion is an unique crop. We need to keep it.
Ricki: Pick another Onion then go to the Pumpkin.
Kamau: Pick an Onion after everyone leaves the room then go right.
Maca: Go back to the Magicrow and talk to it again then go back to the Pumpkin.
Lohk: Go right and examine the hay bale to see if you could knock it down with a Ray of Frost and if it could defeat the Pumpkin.
Molly: Stand back from the Onions. Graze on the Corn’s Corpse if you need a distraction.
Squirrel: Avoid the exploding Onions by hiding under Kamau’s hat.
Explanation:
I don’t see why we have to feed the Pumpkin this turn if Kamau and Lohk can’t move past it until next turn.
Ricki and Kamau pick Onions because they can. The ones fully in the ground shouldn’t explode or should at least not be lethal to Molly. Kamau’s Onion can be fed to the Pumpkin next turn.
I’m worried about Squirrel because his info says he can avoid being targeted by attacks. He might still be vulnerable to exploding Onions. I’m not too worried because we can revive him with Ricki’s Cheese if we need to.The Rules Page pretty much says Squirrel would be safe.Maca checks the Magicrow again in case the clock changes. It could’ve meant we had 20 Turns left instead of until Turn 40.
Lohk examining is to give him something to do and see if we can have an advantage if we want to attack the Pumpkin for some reason.
Warning for other posts: Tomatoes are Fruit, so we should feed Corn or an Onion.
Edit: Ricki’s Armor was barely enough to prevent damage. That might imply 6 Damage. Maybe she took more damage because she was pulling up the Onions? Changed Lohk picking an Onion to Kamau.
It’s SO nice to meet people who know this:
*offers high-five*
Just don’t put them in fruit salad.
Technically, corn is fruit, too.
Please please please don’t assume that a vegetable we haven’t seen is totally harmless. Maybe the ones with greens all the way to the ground don’t explode, but for all we know they’re monsters.
Also for the love of heck do NOT have Lohk pick an onion. Read the entire update: “Ricki’s various armour items just barely protect her from taking damage from the awful stink”. The stink did 4 damage by itself. Combined with two exploding onions instead of one, that’s 8 damage to Lohk. Enough to make Kamau remorse.
Really good point about Lohk. Changed to Kamau picking an Onion instead of Lohk. Downside is it may kill Squirrel, but Ricki has Cheese.
Even if the other Onions aren’t harmless, I feel safe with Ricki picking an Onion because others won’t explode.
“In addition to recruiting other characters, each character can have one pet assigned to them. Pets aren’t as strong as characters but can still be beneficial. They can make their own attacks alongside their owners, but they can also be killed by damage, so take care of them. Pets are only vulnerable to enemy attacks if the pet makes an attack of their own, so it’s possible to have a pet abstain from fighting in order to protect it. This doesn’t necessarily protect them from hazards or traps, but some pets are small enough to be carried, and these can be fully protected by doing so.”
From How To Play. Squirrel should be safe
I am wondering if the onions that stick partially out of the ground are overripe and rotting which caused it to explode. We need to experiment by pulling one out of the ground at Ricki’s location to see if it is safe. If this is the case, we do not want to pull all of the remaining ones in Ricki’s area up completely since the crows would move. The three by Lohk may explode if one is pulled out.
If the ones still fully in the ground are safe, we know that we have three near “Jack” that we could use to feed him.
What do you mean by onion? Is the assumption that the green ones are also onions, just safe onions rather than a different type of plant? Cause the only thing left on Ricki’s screen are the green leafed items that may not be onions. If that plant isn’t an onion, we do run the risk of Ricki not being able to pocket what she picks.
Yep, I’m assuming the other plants are also Onions too. (Not sure if they’re safe or they also smell bad, but Ricki’s Armor would protect against that again.) It’d be weird if Onions and Turnips were planted in the same field. Then again, Corn people are much weirder.
The only down side to if it’s something other than an Onion is no loot and I’m not sure what else Ricki could do this turn unless she eats the Cheese. (I’m hoping we can save the Cheese for Squirrel because LSN said something about a Rat Pet we missed from the Tavern growing up into a Dire Rat.)
Ranged attack the rope that is holding the… hay bale? up so conveniently above the talking pumpkin? Then torch the hay for AoT damage and stand ready for some baked pumpkin slices. 😀
I wonder if the (all) green leaf plants are a differnt kind (e.g. turnips) or just less stinky onions.
another random thought: Molly now has -1 atk. Does that mean, if she were to get into a fight, her participation would actually HEAL the emies? XD
I think LSN ruling was that base attack cannot go below 0… but negatives can still affect equipment bonuses
I know it may sound odd or weird for a mule, but at least once the narrator referred to Molly as “him”. I think we should ask Molly what pronoun.. Ouch! please dont hit me xD
O crap, I jinxed it, I won’t ever say chain-reaction-AoE trap again (OO)
That hay over the pumpkin is a happy accident waiting to happen, if we can’t activate by range then maybe latter while on top… Or maybe leave that for a certain threat that the party doesn’t know about.
…you know what? the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that this isn’t a pumpkin, but a SQUASH.
(okay, I’ll go hide now, so I don’t have to throw money in the “bad pun” box. XD)
Ricki: Go right. Leav Molly safely on the far left, then synchronize picking onions with Kamau and Mac. You take the left. Make sure Lohk is safely off screen before counting off for everybody to pick. Explain the danger to the group and then count off so you all pick together.
Molly: Stay far to the left when Ricki tells you to wait out of harm’s way.
Mac: Return left. Dismount Daisy and send her safely to the left where Molly is. If that isn’t possible, at least keep her to the right so she’s further away from most of the onions and not in the middle of any potential explosion. Sync up with Ricki and Kamau to pick onions. You take the right one on Ricki’s count.
Daisy: Stay safely away when Mac sends you to safety until the onions are picked.
Kamau: Keep squirrel safely stowed inside the gas mask of your hat since carried pets are immune to aoe and environmental hazards, then sync up with Ricki and Mac to pick onions. You take the middle one on Ricki’s count, then head to the right.
Squirrel: Stay safely inside Kamau’s hat, and let those onion fumes filter through that cloth. You’ll be safe
Lohk: Head right and look at the hay bale above the pumpkin. Could you knock it down with a ray of frost or fireball if necessary?
Seemingly only onions left in the ground have an AoE effect. Picked onions just do 4 damage to the picker, otherwise Molly would’ve taken more damage. If we pick the onions together and everybody has at least 4 defense, we should be safe.
I am wary about ordering the animals to go to a particular spot. Remember us trying to use the spider last dungeon?
The ordering animals to go to a particular spot here is just an extra precaution. The main way we’re protecting them is by preventing AoE from proccing by removing all onions simultaneously.
Can we ask Jack the pumpkin if they can smell vegetables beyond them? It would be in their interest to tell us where the vegetables are since we would be able to feed them more easily if we had lots of vegetables to give away
Jack may want a vegetable to eat on the way out as well. Can they tell us if they would expect another payment to leave safely? Can we trust them to honor their word to not hurt us on the way out?
Hm. That sounds like an idea for next turn, but I believe he’ll smell veggies all around, because there are still veggie enemies to the right, regardless of the pile’s status.
Ricki tuck the onion into her belt. As was the fashion at the time.
