Dungeon 7 Turn 10
————
As the scent of pollen becomes stronger, imposing a -1 Atk penalty on all party members, Kamau, Ricki, and Lohk trade items around in preparation for their next move. Kamau ends up with the corn spear, purse, and potion of healing, while Ricki ends up holding the moldy cheese. Squirrel looks on longingly as the delectable morsel changes hands.
While this is happening, Macadamia attempts to address the elder magicrow perched atop the scarecrow.
“Hello there, sir!”
“…Ma’am?”
“We saw all of your friends flying around over there. They haven’t bothered us, and we haven’t bothered them, so we were hoping maybe we could arrange some kind of truce?”
“Or maybe we could even work together? Is there something we can do for you…?”
The enigmatic avian does not respond. However, as he stares into its three eyes, Macadamia finds himself experiencing strange visions. Or is he simply imagining it?
Real winners quit, let’s dip
So many potential awful twists, y’all! I agree, let’s get out of here
Kam still has remorse left. What’s in the next room? At least we can pull vegs out of the ground.
Lohk: go left one screen and ray of frost an enemy squirrel.
Mac: go left one screen and smif the spear.
Ricki: go right one screen. As your action, describe any preciously unseen scene elements you can while not alerting any more monsters
Squirrel: climb into Kamau’s clothes to hide from all damage.
Kamau: pick a vegetable.
Explanation:
Possible, and most likely, meaning of Elder Crow Riddle is that the Crows are our hard time limit. At turn 40, they will swoop down and eat our produce, possibly directly from our packs.
If the crows are the time limit, they probably do not count for dungeon completion. So the value of the regular spear for ranged attacks is reduced, so it’s likely safe to smif.
Hard time limit partially subverts logic of fight now, collect later. And since we don’t now expect the crows to randomly eff us up, we are a bit safer in exploring forward.
Also, Kamau will determine which veggie is a trap, and Lohk will do her part towards potential dungeon completion, and be free to pick veggies next turn alongside Mac.
Also, since the 3-eyed crow is an NPC, we can clear the previous room without worrying about the crows joining that bosscrow here. Right?
And search/destroy/burn the scarecrow.
By the way. Scarecrow is on a huge stick, can this stick help us in any way getting up on the tree? So far we have no ropes, and no Lara to cast webs.
Stick cannot help us climb, LSN said so.
Just want to add that even though Lohk has 1 Mobility she can use her Mom Sense Ability to instantly catch up, so it’s not a big deal if she’s farther to the left than everyone else.
Our big limiting factor right now is the need to heal Kamau before the next big fight. Given we are moving forward this turn, we should be healing in case we find the bull or something immediately hostile. Additionally, only Ricki can distinguish between the turnips. Either Ricki needs to pick the turnip on screen left if we want to pick a particular kind, or she needs to be there to show someone else which one to pick. Better to have her experiment alone on that screen and use everybody else’s actions like CTNC. Healing is too important to forgo when Kamau is that low. Finally Kamau’s inventory is full, so if he picks a good turnip, we will still have to use actions later to actually pick up the turnip from the ground once picked. It’s not optimal.
Huh, did it get full again? But a purpose of last turn was to clear his inventory. Blast.
Can’t delete comment. Thank you wordpress.
couldn’t Ricki just tell somebody to do something like “pick specifically the middle one” or something so anybody can do it
We’d hope so, but our experience with traps in the manor was that Ricki needs to be there or people forget. Maybe the way this one works it is enough to be specific but I’d rather not chance it if we don’t have to.
Ricki: Go left and pull up a Turnip that’s sticking up more. (The Second or Fifth one)
Kamau: Drink the Healing Potion
Maca: Smif the Spear then go right.
Lohk: Cast Heal on Kamau.
Squirrel: Climb under Kamau’s Hat for protection. You live there for the rest of the Dungeon unless Ricki tries feeding you.
Explanation:
This is to check which Turnips are safe and which aren’t, check the room to the right, and doesn’t committing to picking every Turnip or going to the next room.
Ricki has 6 Armor, so everything should be fine if one of the Turnips is a monster unless it somehow deals 8 Damage. I’m guessing the ones sticking out more because are safe because the ones in this room are sticking out more and it’d be cruel to have traps on top of everything else.
Kamau and Lohk stay so they’re able to go left or right next turn. The Healing Potion and Heal Spell are both used because I’m pretty sure we’d want to use them both either way.
Maca Smiffing gives him something to do, makes up for lost power, and possibly give us something to regret if we end up needing the ranged attack.
Edit: Forgot about Lohk’s Mom Sense Ability letting her catch up even if she’s farther behind than everyone else. Siv’s plan doesn’t risk Remorse, but it doesn’t heal Kamau.
CTNC you should specify which Turnip to pick, like the 2nd from the left or what have you.
Yeah, CTNC, the only gripe I have with your plan is the unclear description of which plant to pull up… 🙁
Edited to clarify which one.
TURNIP. Thank you. I couldn’t remember the name of it.
Clarification needed: “stick out more” means one of the 2 green/brown plants, not one of the 3 all-green plants?
Yeah, this green/brown plants could be turnips, and “statistics” are in favor for this kind – we have total of 5 green/brown, and 3 all-green. I’d pull the same one like you say.
Oh, the crow is just a sign. The flock of crows means the flock of crows, the vegetables mean our packs, and the time means we have 4 time units until midnight. So I guess the crows go nuts and start attacking us and eating our food.
I’m sure one of these scarecrows has got a treasure ready to fall out of it. Send the rat up the pole to search them all.
The poles are not climbable. LSN said so.
Maybe this is a side objective? Escort crows to a sack of food? Or feed them?
That was my first hopeful thought, but the clock doesn’t fit.
Should we feed 2 corn and 2 tomatoes to the crows before turn 40? On turn 40? Or is it 2 corn and one really smashed tomatoe?
I have no idea how you came up with turn 40.I think we don’t know what’s the turn-to-minute relation, but we can try guessing.
On the clock, it’s 4 sections to midnight/midday. If we count 10 turns per for some reason, it gives 40 turns LEFT, and we’re on turn 10 now, so it would be “before turn 50”. Makes some sense considering previous dungeons. But on the clock it’s also 20 minutes. So it be 20 turns as well, making it a deadline at turn 30.First case means 1 turn is 15s, second case means 1 turn is 60s.
Also, it’s two tomatoes, you can see two green stalks there. But it looks like those are in some sort of a brown bag, or a bowl.. if that’s a bag, there can be any number of things down there inside it. Interestingly, no eggs.
EDIT: oh, I see. 20 ticks to midday if that’s a clock, or 40 ticks left to 0 if that’s a timer. Anyways, sorta nevermind since we don’t know. We could look in its eyes at turn 15 to check if the clock/timer moved anyhow.
Ricki: Go left and pull up the second plant from the left. This should be the first one from the left with a yellow bottom.
Kamau: Drink the Healing Potion and equip your Magma shield.
Maca: Smif the Spear with a silver ring then go right.
Lohk: Cast Heal on Kamau.
Squirrel: Climb under Kamau’s Hat for protection. You live there for the rest of the Dungeon unless Ricki tries feeding you.
Explanation:
I stole this plan from CTNC but added specification on which plant exactly to pick, just so we are clear.
Siv’s plan won’t let us actually add a plant to inventory because Kamau’s inventory is full. Additionally, if we encounter something terrible on the next screen from Mac exploring, we won’t have enough health on Kamau to reliably deal with what we find. Healing him with the potion and Lohk this turn gets Kamau back to 11 health just in case we encounter the bull or something like it.
“pull up the second plant from the left” – while not counting the tree as plant!
Once the birds fly wait eight turns and get more crops?
Or we have 4 more turns until something else happens…
For everyone fixated on healing Kamau from 6 HP: Without spending the first channel on Heal, we could have finally used a wand of Mend. Even now, Kamau has as much HP as the next healthiest party member. It’s easy to get caught up on the empty symbols, but Kamau below half health is still way tougher than anyone else. Heroic Effort would probably give us bonuses at the moment, and if we invest in his Adrenaline skills then those only turn online at 5 HP.
Spending the healing potion is better for getting inventory space than it is for getting HP.
Also, I know it’s only turn #10, but there’s also Dauntless 😉
Granted, but I’m worried about having to heal within a combat. Kamau took 5 damage in the opening round of this screen. If the next screen is similarly dangerous, he’d be at 1. I think it’s unlikely that we’ll get to open any combats with Kamau attacking, so the attack bonus is only really relevant when we’re cleaning up.
I’m not sure what the relevance of the wand of mend is, since we don’t have one yet. Maybe we’ll find one, but we’re just as likely to find anything else.
I just want to add
that that panel looks rad
That’s such a cool crow
Bet Mac deals its death blow
Crow secrets = not new
Such is their purview
