Dungeon 6 Turn 18
————
Ricki, Lohk, and Macadamia meet back at the entrance. Lohk and Macadamia continue to disassemble the dog skeletons, while Ricki attempts to lasso the chest on the distant ledge. She finds that she can’t make an accurate toss at this range. She’ll have to come up with something else if she wants to get that sweet, sweet loot.
Lara chills for a moment and cooks some of the raw meat she carries into a delicious-looking steak. The dungeon stove heats up automatically when food is placed on it, and the entire process takes only a short time. However, it still seems Lara can only cook one item at a time. And also she can’t carry this extra item, so she drops the delicious steak on the ground. It’s probably still good, right?
Lara also considers cooking the cheese, but it doesn’t seem like the kind of cheese that turns edible just because you heat it up. More like it might try to crawl away.

I think the upside down wolf spider is a hint. Maybe we can have it climb over and open or push off the chest?
It could be a hint, but the spider cannot do either action.
Attach lasso to wolfspider, command it to attack distant chest. Hopefully lasso attaches to chest
Command it to move via ceiling onto the ledge, and try to climb the rope, hoping the monster has a good grip?
Or, the painting. We’ve had a few ideas how to take it off. And finally everyone is close, riding pets, even Lara (just move left).
Or, use bookshelves from the room above, push them down, stack them, they look MUCH like ladders if you think about their empty shelves.
By the way, we still have 3 bookshelves that may drop a scroll. Scrolls mean magic (or romance drama), maybe one of them will help?
All it has to do is wrap the rope around the chest. Test the rope to see if it will drag the chest off of the ledge or support Ricki’s weight. If it will support her weight, climb to the ledge and open the chest.
nevermind, I wrote something stupidC’mon, Lara. If the bucket is clean and empty, please put the food in there.
Oh crap. Good that Ricky didn’t catch that chest. It’d probably kill Mac.
Closed chests don’t move, so it’d be fine.
Geesh, Lara, there was a bucket just behind you, I bet it’s at least a bit cleaner than the floor.
Ricki: knot one end of rope in a loop around spider, hold other end. Once spider finishes its moving, see if the rope will hold your weight.
Spider: move across ceiling to lower chest in isolated platform, move a couple of times around it, hold position behind chest.
Lara: drop cheeses, cook meat.
Lohk: move second bookcase at the lower part of the library (where bookworm came from) to the exact middle of the other bookcases.
Mac: push chest from top of entrance hall down stairs, next to painting, taking care not to crush anyone.
Might want to suggest having Ricki try the spider rope after the loops are complete. I worry we do the moves and then will find out next turn it won’t hold weight.
Unclear Lohk can pick up and eat cheese. Actually she definitely can’t because dropped items can’t be picked up the turn they’re dropped.
It’s not a pick up, but a use, won’t mess with inventory, and should work, right? Well, I can have her move bookcase instead
Can Lara put the cooked-meat and cheeses into the bucket? Maybe we could use it as temporary food container at the cost of extra action for putting things out of the bucket?
Of course, the bucket could be absolutely filthy and disgusing, but I think we could try it once to see if that’s possible.
I don’t think we can give such specific orders to a pet.
Note the pet wasn’t ordered to make an action, just to move. That is why I am trying it, because it is more data. We already know actions other than murder don’t work. What about moving?
Can the spider carry the lasso to the chest, and loop it around the chest?
Can the spider push the chest off the ledge (once everyone is out of the way)?
Can the spider carry Ricki while on the ceiling (Maybe test that in an area with less distance to fall)?
Pushing the chest is impossible by any normal means. Closed chests are immobile until opened. Dungeon magic prevents that. We’d need either some magic means, or something environmental and very well rooted, like, destroying the ledge with -thinkofsomething- so the whole ledge with the chest falls. But this idea is probably also impossible, since the ledge is very clearly made of the famous black borderium.
Spider can’t carry anything, but I think we should be able to tie the rope to its body.
Re: carrying on the ceiling – heh, nice one. I wonder too. Maybe the spider has enough grip, so Ricky can hold on to it when upside down. No idea until tested.
Well you could burn another Corruption point and web up the walls if you want that chest THAT badly, you know. Personally I’d rather keep Lara as uncorrupt as possible.
The points are there to be used. We already have more PCs than we can take on adventures anyway. Look at Lara’s character sheet, her only good ability is a ranged attack that deals 2 poison damage. All of her other good abilities use Corruption.
And why not use them? It’s not a big deal until we get 7 points. Then we decide whether or not to use the eighth point and turn Lara into a midboss for another adventuring party.
Isn’t it 3 poison damage with her Poison Proficiency?
Lara: Drop a cheese (possibly in the bucket so it won’t crawl away). Head left and take down the painting with Macadamia and Ricki.
Ricki: Give Macadamia a boost. After the painting is down, head right and down and unlock the chest on the left above the skull door.
Macadamia: Help Lara take the painting down.
Ricki: Stand on wolf spider and/or Macadamia to get the height to take down the painting with Lara.
Lohk: Eat some of that cheese Lara picked up, either from her if possible or from where she left it in the kitchen. End turn back in the entryway.
Getting a little greedy with Lohk actions since I’m getting everyone else to take down the painting, which will most likely reveal an access to the ledge chest and possibly some boss hints. I’m aiming to minimize how much inventory rewriting goes on here, immediately using consumables should be much less of a pain than swapping around stat-boosting equipment. I really wanted someone to step on Macadamia, but he’s full on inventory so he needs to be taking non-looting actions.
We have 6 HP missing on characters and 8 HP of healing items, 2 potential steaks plus a potion of healing and two cheese (the third likely needs a pass through flies which costs the 1 HP it gives). Cheese only helps goblins and Lohk is down 2, so ideally she can eat the cheese. We can also feed the wolf spider the raw meat for 3 HP of healing which lets us be riskier with it again while still healing Lara to full with a steak and potion, or we can leave the wolf spider low and keep another steak for later healing like from enchantment.
Re 3rd cheese: we might be able to pull the table by its leg, and get the table+cheese out from under the flies that way. There’s a chance the flies will follow, but if they do, probably not all flies will follow, and that could even modify the trap in some interesting way.
This post has conflicting Ricki/Macadamia actions.
Right. There are even two ‘Ricky’ lines.
Let’s check. I added notes and tried to correct things I see plain wrong.
1st Ricky line:
Lara: Drop a cheese (possibly in the bucket (..)). Head left and take down the painting with Macadamia and Ricki.
Macadamia: Help Lara take the painting down.
Ricki: Give Macadamia a boost.
After the painting is down, head right and down and unlock the chest on the left above the skull door.(I’m pretty sure that “giving a boost” is an action, so no opening chests later this turn)Lohk: Eat some of that cheese Lara picked up,
either from her if possible,or from the kitchen where she dropped it. End turn back in the entryway. (that would be item trading, and could use up Lara’s action, and we need it for the painting, so let’s just have Lohk head to kitchen already)2nd Ricky line:
Ricki: Stand on wolf spider and/or Macadamia to get the height to take down the painting with Lara.
Lara: Drop a cheese (possibly in the bucket (..)). Head left and take down the painting with Macadamia and Ricki.
Macadamia: Help Lara and Ricky to take the painting down.
Lohk: Eat some of that cheese Lara picked up,
either from her if possible,or from the kitchen where she dropped it. End turn back in the entryway. (same as above)Actions for Lohk and Lara are basically the same. Ricky can’t act at painting and open a chest, so Ricky just helps with painting in both cases. The only difference is who is the “more active” person, and who is “just giving a boost”. In #1 Mac is active, Ricky boosts, and in #2 Ricky is active, and Wolf and Mac give her a boost (since we don’t really know how many people we need to
change the light bulblift Ricky and hold both Ricky and the painting – more importantly, we don’t know if Ricky can stand on Wolf, and we know she can on Mac).I vote up, for version #2, sounds safer, even if it means possibly wasting Mac’s or Wolf’s turn.
