Dungeon 5 Turn 26
————
Taking the heavy plate armour, Lara and her spider ascend to the highest floor in the room and each take out a dire rat. The spider takes another 1 point of damage in the process, but Lara takes none. Ricki grabs some thieves’ tools off the ground and opens up the chest, finding a spiked buckler inside. The ape and magicrow on the other side of the room seem angry that their gang’s stuff is being taken and focus their fire on Ricki, but her wolf armour and shield (recently recovered from Kamau) absorb all the damage. She leaves the buckler where it is for now, returns her thieves’ tools to the pile, and runs to the right.
Meanwhile, Kamau pushes the safe down the ladder shaft. He hears a resounding metallic crash from the room below, followed by happy bug noises.
Ricki picks up the cool ball on her way back to the kobolds.

BUCKLER, SPIKED
Shield
Def +1. Also grants Atk +1 against creatures that attack the wielder.
Weight 1, Cost 13
Hrm…. I wonder if the spiked buckler would be enough to kill enemies attacking its wielder. Like if Ricki had it equipped in dungeon 1 and the (0 Def iirc) regular rats had attacked her, they would have died from that attempt.
This kind of shield would make shield bash abilitiy for Kamau more interesting and/or the counterattack more effective (if it ever triggered π )…
But we would at least have to get a spiked shield, so we wouldn’t lose any Def points compared to what we have now.
Not by the way it’s written. It grants an attack bonus, doesn’t deal damage directly. Might work well synergizing with counterattack (lol) or Cleave, though.
The big question now is whether the attack bonus is granted to the wielder or simply against the enemy. If against the enemy it synergizes VERY well with interpose and the rest of the party attacking.
Well, we are about to get in a big fight. Kamau can equip it during the fight and we can experiment.
The problem is that the buckler is now guarded. We need an action to loot it.
Lara – switch back to your leather armor and give Kamau his plate armor back for his copper ring (wear the ring!). Head down to check on the safe. If you can access the safe contents to loot them post fall then do so.
Spider – if you can attack a rat before leaving with Lara then do so but Lara’s actions are the priority.
Kamau – Pick up your bucket, drop the magic lens and raw meat then put on your plate armor, bucket, and shield before you charge through the owlbear, the gorilla, and the crow to loot the chest under the crow. Earn the undying hatred of the crow. If you have any free inventory space after the chest, pick up as many as you can carry of these items – the wanted poster, a longsword, and a thieves tools then leave to the right.
Ricki – move two screens to the left and deliver the ball to the children. While doing so, get their not as nice ball and tell them they need to head upstairs soon because it’s almost dinnertime, and there are going to be some bad guys coming through real soon. I assume this talking can be done as part of completing the quest rather than a separate action.
Was kinda hoping to bring meat or a healing potion for the kid not sleeping. At least we have some gold on Ricki we could use to lure the gangs past the kobold home. As long as we tell the kids not to touch it.
I’m still hoping to do that! Lara still has to run back to the entrance and I want her to pick up the meat and whatever else we need from this screen.
We won’t use up those Potions anyway. Might as well bring them to family, maybe they will find them usefull? Not a quest, just nice thing to do.
and we are going to have big fight by entrance so they would be usefull there if we need them.
The big concern is to try to prevent opening the chest and not being able to take its contents. It’s going to be hard to get back here to take anything we miss on the crow chest.
Lara could pick up healing potion and/or meat turn 28. Depends on what (if anything) we get from safe and crow chest in turn 27.
…as Thisnameismeta already wrote. How can I write anything when I need to constantly press F5?!
I’m so sorry!
It’s all good!
Two tabs. One for F5 and reading, one for typing π
We will see what happend with safe as Ricki is running to deliver Ball.
Rusty has many items to eat so we don’t actually know whatever is there can be taken.
Ricki will need to go back for Dog Pet anyway.
and if we sent Lara room down she will be 1 turn behind Kamau to arrive. She and her spider are our main source of DPS. (it’s 5 turns from Rusty room to entrance. Up, Right, Down, Left, Left)
What im sayin’ no reason to send Lara to Rusty.
wouldn’t spending Magic Lense to figure out how dangerous Crow’s are be better use of her time? We will get more of them soon-ish. They seem like potentiall new common enemy. Or the Ape.
That way Lara stays with Kamau.
We gotta use it this dungeon. it’s worth only 10 gold so waste of slot for store, and definilty waste of space to carry it to next dungeon.
alernativelly we might want to have Ricki use it on Kobold miners, just because they are suspicious.
If Lara gets to loot this turn, we have whatever was in the safe for the fight and Lara still arrives to fight on turn 30. Turn 28 would be Lara double moving to smif, turn 29 she can take an action and move or double move to the entrance. Turn 30 she is either already at the entrance or one move away with a free action to attack.
“itβs 5 turns from Rusty room to entrance. Up, Right, Down, Left, Left”
From How to play: “Characters can always use their action to move one additional room.” So, no action (handling unguarded loot does not count as action) means moving two rooms (and Ricki even 3 rooms) per turn.
Thanks, i didn’t’ know that
i still think sending her to Rusty is a waste (let’s be reall it won’t be combat equipment)
but at least it isn’t dumb choice.
Edit: I just realised something…
why did we even bother with increasing Ricki Mov at all? If double move exists that limits even more usefulness of that skill.
Do we need to point out that Ricki should ask for the Crappy Ball and for the kids to go upstairs (dinner time & thugs coming)?
Added this more or less.
Shouldn’t we tell Lara to clima down the ladder and disengage from enemies before switching her items?
I’m not super worried about this personally because everything happens simultaneously. There’s no reason for the crow and such to target Lara when they’ve got Kamau charging in.
I’m glad we didn’t squish Rusty.
Turn 24 had in its top comment: “Try not to leave the rusty items in a location where a falling safe could land on and hurt the rust monster.” Good planning, thisnameismeta!
I want a coyote Arm holding out a sign that says “Ouch” from under the safe where it fell
