Dungeon 5 Turn 21
————
After swapping some items around again and picking up the ball, the greatsword, and the remaining coins, Ricki and her party reunite and head to the right, attacking the remaining Blues. Ricki and the spider take out one of the two hobgoblins, while Lara takes out the other by expending a rat tail and her last cigarette, and by getting a lucky crit. Both hobgoblins’ bucklers shatter in the fighting, but their daggers remain. Kamau takes no damage from blocking all three, nor does the remaining bugbear seem to have any special tactics prepared.
Ricki: Run to Reds base and wait by doors to safe (in case doors go up and down blocking paths), once the door opens try opening safe.
If need be leave 1 potion before doors (so it’s accesible once flip is flipped again) and get thieves tools.
Kamau: flip switch.
Lara: wait by doors to chest in Blues base and get stuff from it on our side of doors
Spider: attack
that way only Spider and Kamau are in range of enemy and one of them has huge Def and the other we don’t care (no remorse)
We probably cannot flip the lever while the bugbear is blocking access to it..
https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-2-turn-52/ had Kamau switch a lever regardless of the skeletons standing before it. But Lara risks wasting a turn (wall probably moves up or down instead of splitting), we still need the spider and it cannot attack with Lara away: https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-5-turn-17/
The wall would have to split to allow access to both the chest and the safe. Simply moving up or down would block access to one or the other.
There is no in-dungeon-reason for safe and chest to be accessible at the same time.
up-position: safe blocked, chest accessible,
middle position: both blocked,
down-position: safe accessible, chest blocked.
Not knowing the mechanics behind the lever, also
position 1: both blocked
position 2: blocking the access to the former spider-chest, free access to safe and other chest, blocked floor downstairs
is possible ( = your idea).
These levers really need clear labeling, the areas where the walls go must be marked (“Danger! Do not stand here!”), and it must be prevented to move the lever while somebody is in the area, where the wall goes. Those dungeons are a nightmare for any safety inspector! (In the mine below they do have personal safety equipment, though.)
The lever presumably only moves right left though. Unless there’s a middle position that is actually the opposite of the far left position I don’t see that being how it works.
Skeletons (and most beasts) are not intelligent enough to prevent actions the characters are attempting to execute.
LSN has warned us about this more than once.
My suggestion is we defeat the bugbear first.
So, to sum up: We want to prepare for safebreaking and rust monster looting.
Ergo, we need to:
1) finish off blues and loot’em.
2) get information from kobold friend on safe, failing that, notify him of reds and blues being knocked out
3) move rusted items closer to the rust monster for easy dispatch.
So if it doesn’t cost an action, party talks to themselves about safes when possible.
Kamau switches to longsword and attacks.
Lara, wielding torch and shield loots the chest.
Spider attacks with Kamau. EDIT: If Spider can only attack with Lara, reverse Kamau and Lara’s tasks so that Lara attacks with longsword and shield and Kamau loots.
Ricki, once they are done, drops greatsword, ball and potion. Takes all rusty items one screen left and drops them near the ladder down, while minding the pressure plates. Goes down and asks kobold for any information he has about a safe upstairs, up to and including if the gangs ever had access to it, if it is part of the dungeon and if he knows the combination and/or what’s in it.
For extra safety, maybe have Ricki and Lara swap armor.
I’d like to also suggest testing a possible inventory management loophole. Instead of dropping everything, Ricki should try throwing the rusty stuff into the next room without dropping anything if you can. If she can’t, Drop everything to move the rusty stuff. Or we can wait for next turn to have someone else try this if Ricki can’t do it this turn.Edit: LSN said Nope on Discord. The loophole idea won’t work. 🙁
It isn’t my objective this turn to allow metal items near the rust monster at all, so dropping via ladder is best avoided. I don’t want to excite or antagonize it.
Also, Lara has 4 def, same as his likely atk, so bugbear will likely go for the spider instead. Unnecessary to switch armor at this time.
If Lara needs to attack, she could use Ricki’s greatsword instead of her own longsword, just to be extra-safe&sure.
“drops them near the ladder down” means: drop them on the floor next to the crossbow-bolt-chest; do not drop them down the ladder (as already stated in your own comment, still better to include it in the post).
Ricki: If possible, additionally (!) tell the Kobold that we removed the Reds and removal of Blue gang is imminent, but animal/monster gang on very top floor is still there. If there is some time left for further talk, ask for additional information about Rusty.
She can’t use the greatsword and still be safe from attack (max would be 3 armor with the wolf armor) unless we clear her inventory and give her the plate.
She could not wield the shield and the greatsword, because that already needs two hands/arms! Yes, now I see it, me bad, thanks for pointing out!
Hey, 7 more corruption and maybe she’ll have enough limbs for that plan!
