Dungeon 5 Turn 20
————
Ricki opens up the chest the Reds were guarding and finds inside an unused wanted poster and a cool-looking toy ball. She thinks this is probably the one the kobold kids lost, but she has no inventory space so she leaves both it and the poster on the ground for now.
Lara attempts to burn the poster on the wall, but it seems to be magically invulnerable. Looks like it’s gonna be there for the rest of the dungeon. She then reads the two signs near the upper floor. The left one says “KEEP WEAPONS STOWED”, but it’s a little late for that. The right one says “Weird Animal Gang Above”.
Kamau picks up some loose coins until his pockets are full, then opens the chest on the bottom floor. To his complete and utter surprise, a crossbow bolt launches out of the front and hits him square in the stomach. He tanks the hit easily, but it’s still an unpleasant surprise. Inside the chest are five more crossbow bolts, which he removes. This trap has now been disarmed.
Ricki drops her greatsword and picks up a rusty dagger instead, then goes down the ladder to the room below.
Ricki decides to try an experiment after hearing the thugs talk about what happened when they tried to take over this room. She can’t take an action because she already opened a chest, but she can still drop her dagger straight down. She does that, and the strange giant bug immediately seems interested. It darts forward and starts chewing up the rusty dagger until only the wooden hilt remains.
It doesn’t seem to acknowledge Ricki as the source of the snack. Actually it doesn’t seem to be paying any attention to her at all.

We need to get that ball to the kid kobalds asap. Lets get us another pet! Also, if the bug is completely ignoring Ricky, is it possible someone without metal weapons or armor could pass the bug without risk?
Could be, but it might be also because Rusty is distracted by the snack he just got. I ‘d recommend dropping a ton of metal items down the monster area before going down.
doing trip for each quest separatly will waste to much time. We should try to find the doll before sending Ricki running.
Ricki: Move up one. Grab Ball. Drop 1 Healing potion. Grab both Meat from Lara. Move right again and down to Smiffery.
Lara: Grab Greatsword and remaining gold. Move right and attack Yellow goblinoid.
Spider: Attack same as Lara
Kamau: Move Right and interpose for Lara.
All: Watch the pressure plates!
Having Ricki bring Food and Potion for the kobold kid not sleeping. Hopefully it will solve that. Kamau and Lara can clear blues while Ricki ferries the ball back for dog.
Edit: fixed the double post. Oups!
I don’t think this works for Lara inv.
Edited inventory for lara. Thanks!
I feel we need all 3 characters to deal with Owl Bear up top and Rusty down below. That leaves dealing with Blues. Which is good cause they prob have a quest item as well
Why should Lara grab a set of lockpicks? And there is not even room in her inventory for it. Hm, your edit here appears as two posts in one, and the second doesn’t have the lockpicks. Ok then.
We got 10 more turns before a gang comes in, so whatever we are going to commit to doing we need to commit hard and get it done. We know where the ball is so we can knock one thing out of way and we need to rush for that doll if we are trying to get that done or else we might fail that second objective.
On the plus side, we know it will take Doll Mommy 2 turns to get home safely. I’d like to think we’ll be equipped enough to deal with the first group if things really got bad.
I don’t think we need to worry about gangs going out of their way to hurt Kobolts.
Kids know to hide and family lived alongside gangs for long time.
No, we were alerted about this possibility at turn 0.
“Hey kids! You staying safe in the dungeon?”
“Yes, Ricki! Mom and day say we can play in the hall as long as nobody’s here, but we gotta go back upstairs if bad guys show up.”
from turn 1. They know what to do. They lived with gangs for long time.
-Reds are comunicative and seems chill. No way they will spend time killing people whose role is to pretend it’s normall home.
-Blues while we never talked with them, they still can talk (as we have seen during intermission p.8) and had some pact with Reds. They are reasonable.
-the only group i would be worried about are Animals and mostly because they are at the end.
Gang members comming and going are nothing new for this location. Kobolds living here adapted and survived for a long time.
I think we should clear the blues to get to their chests and the safe first. The dog will be helpful but most of our combat is almost done and by the time Ricki returns we will only have the turn 30 horde and the monsters on the top floor to worry about. If we can find another quest item then we will be better able to optimize the trip back to deliver the ball. If Ricki runs the ball alone right now she will have 8 screens to move, which will take 3 turns minimum, giving us the dog 4 turns from now at best. We may be able to do a relay race to expedite returning the ball later, which will be made easier if we have a 4th character then.
To that end:
Ricki go up one screen – give a potion to Kamau and pick up the greatsword and the ball. Point out the probably useless pressure plates and guide the party to the right then attack the regular (non-rusted) dagger hobgoblin with the spider using your greatsword.
Kamau: Drop your boots, take a potion from Ricki and give Lara her cigs in return for the meat. Follow Ricki to the right and interpose in the fight with the blues. We should be fine without the bucket for now.
Lara: Give Kamau the meat for your cigs, switch to ratfang and your shield, then pick up the remaining gold (should be 19?) then go with the party right to attack the rusty dagger hobgoblin with an empowered rat fang and your cigs for 8 dmg.
Spider: Follow the party and avoid the pressure plates then join Ricki in attacking a hobgoblin.
The following turn I’m assuming the spider and Lara can take out the bugbear (using ratfang for 6 dmg on Lara) while Ricki loots the chest and moves to the left before the lever is pulled (to be ready to loot the safe the turn after that)
[Thank you for the edit. Now it would be OK to delete the comment, but there is no delete function.]
I don’t even know what I edited but you are welcome!
I think it might be possible to distract the bug with rusty items the same way we can distract rats with cheese and loot the surrouding area safely.
yea, i think that’s the play here once we want to be dealing with it.
Ricki should strip. Take rusty armor. Give it to monster and with Kamau gofor chest. Kamau to help her reach. Loot it and get out.
No need to fight it and if we feed it all rust items first we will have nothing to distract it with.
We might have Lara & Ricki do this, because Kamau doesn’t want to lay down Kamau’s broken Metal sword. (And not now.)
i low key would like Kamau to feed his sword to Rusty so the metal gets removed and we can attach new blade on later date.
Sentiment: Always carries Kamau’s Hilt and will not drop or trade it.
nothing says we can’t try fixing it.
I think a blacksmith would do the job just fine with extra tooth marks in the hilt.
Well, maybe not only rusty. It looked like it wanted to taste Kamau’s armor (which is not rusty).
But I agree that it will be better to feed it with rusty ones as it is possible the way to open the puzzle chest.
Also it is possible to try to fight the bug using the rusty armor on Kamau.
And one more option – Lara can lift up her spider so it gets to the far chest (by ceiling) and opens it (if it is able to do this). Then if there is something valuable Lara can give the spider an order to drop the thing from the balcony so there will be no need to lift Ricki to get the thing from the balcony. We will distract the bug once more and take the loot (and the shield).
Then the bug can be distracted once more so the last (bottom left) chest can be looted.
I wonder what creature type that ninja chose when he activated the poster. If he had chosen “Human”, that would have weakened his allies too. Does that mean that “thug” and “former guard” are separate types of creature? I’m quite confused.
Apparently, Guard is a creature, and thug is another creature, yes. Basically, the classifications are onnthe enemies page.
Nope, TNIM has a better plan.
