Dungeon 5 Turn 19
————
With Kamau continuing to block attacks, everyone else focuses their attention on defeating the assassin. He seems somehow stronger now than previously, but Kamau is still able to take the hit with no damage done, while Ricki, Lara, and the spider finish him off.
Now that this enemy group (and seemingly the last of the Reds) is defeated, they drop two daggers and a longsword. Ricki also tries to take the wanted poster off the wall, but it seems to be stuck fast. Kamau informs her that these things stay up for days once posted, then disappear. Seems like it can’t be looted after all.
Inverse ninja law definitely a thing. Noted.
a Dr. McNinja reference! YES.
…does that mean the gorilla up on the top floor is a professional secretary?
Oh gods I don’t want to hurt Judy!
The ninja probably had Adrenaline or Heroic Effort ability.
Neither of those would have worked only on this last turn – he didn’t take damage until this turn.
Can we burn the wanted poster?
Kamau: Go try to open the weird chest. It’s probably a dart trap, so try to stand off to the side of the keyhole, or block it with your shield. Make sure nobody else is on your level when doing this.
Ricki: Loot the chest the ninja was guarding, then trade your greatsword for a rusty dagger. Head down the ladder to above the rust monster and see how it reacts when you drop the rusty dagger (don’t drop it on it!).
Lara: Try to burn the wanted poster using your torch. Also take a look at the signs in the red hideout so we know what they say finally.
If burning the poster is impossible and Kamau can save us the trouble by telling us so, let’s have Lara loot the chest instead while Ricki goes down to test the rust monster feeding. For her action she can instead talk to the Kobold below to let him know we cleared out his home and ask if he knows anything about the safe.
I personally don’t like the idea of going for an obvious trap when there’s more likely good stuff to look at, but I do get the impulse cause there MIGHT be gear in there. I just think it’s more trap then chest and I don’t want to risk the chance of Kamau getting poisoned.
It’s mostly because the only other thing Kamau could do this turn with the other needed actions is attack on his own, which feels inefficient, or take a potion (which also feels like a waste of an action when there’s so much to do).
I think opening both chests is a good idea as it checks off a few of the unknowns and lets us plan for next turn.
Kamau: watch out that chest is probably trapped!
while i like this plan.
We didn’t clean Kobold home. We knocked out bandits, once they wake up he still has no place to stay.
I do agree we should tell him to leave the room just in case Ricki aggro RusMonster and he climbs to her…. If throwing stuff at Rusty aggros him Ricki will definitly take damage.
This was not our choice, it was LSN’s, so presumably the knocking out will be resolved in narration.
Yes, by Kobold telling us we are dumb and he can’t move in because we didn’t actually solve anything.
We did nothing to help him.
The only locations where we can “clean up” are top floor of Reds base since we do kill monsters and Rust Monster room.
Kobold told us Rusty is not a problem for him tho.
“let him know we cleared out his home” Point out that the very floor at the top is still occupied – we do not want the kobold to get eaten by the owlbear!
Ricki : loot the chest. If you got time, run on down with some rusty items to feed the rust monster and see what happens. Also maybe ask the kobold down there for some back story on the reds fighting the rust monster and that his place might be good to move back into soon.
Kamau : back to the blues and interpose. Pay attention to if you’re still weakened or not out of this room.
Lara and spider : take out one of the orange hobbos.
Rest of the message board : rearrange inventory and gear to make this happen cause I don’t have the patience or the mind to actually do all the constant shuffling and have any idea what I’m doing please and thank you. Ya’ll are stars
Alternative plan moving onto the blues.
Ricki give Lara both potions and trade your greatsword for her longsword and shield, then loot the chest and follow along with the group, pointing out the pressure plates, avoiding them and helping everybody else avoid them too.
Ricki, while you’re at it ask Kamau if the wanted poster can be destroyed (say, by fire), and if not what the range on the debuff is like or if there are any other effects. Doesn’t take priority over the listed actions above, but if it can be done in concert, make it so.
Kamau does the trade below then picks up 16 gold from the pile to fill up his stack to 20. After this he goes right and interposes for the group to attack the remaining blues.
Lara does the trade above and also gives Kamau a potion for her cigs, then attacks the bugbear with her greatsword while smoking.
On their way out of the red hideout the gang should read the signs. This shouldn’t take an action because we’ve been able to read signs while moving before.
Spider also goes right and attacks the bugbear. Should be 12 dmg and almost certainly a KO given previous bugbear health/armor.
I’m into this plan but maybe think we should save the cigs for owlbear if we can. Then again, longer we don’t use them more likely she’ll just burn them without giving us any benefit.
This is only true when they’re in her inventory, but we really need to clear space. If we get two quest items that aren’t the ring we have to drop something to carry the 2nd one.
I’ve got a possible loophole idea. We can pick up and drop things as long as they’re not guarded and we’re not in combat. Can we have someone pick up everything and drop it down the ladder?
For the Challenge Chest, the theories are either feeding the Rust Monster rusty items (or breaking them all, which is close enough) or having it rust non-rusted items. Pushing every rusted item and the non-rusted Daggers we don’t need would let us push them to the Rust Monster when we want to test the theories and try to sneak past for the chests its guarding.
I think Ricki should examine the weird bottom left chest to see what kind of trap it has. (I’m guessing she knows what kind of trap is it because she can see traps.) She can give Kamau a Healing Potion to heal him and save an invitory slot while we can.
Lara: Open the Chest the Ninja was guarding.
Ricki: Give Kamau a Healing Potion and examine the weird chest in the bottom left
Kamau: Drink a Healing Potion Ricki gives you and move the rusty stuff and the two non-rusty daggers we don’t need to the ladder and push them down
Only problem with this is that if it distracts the rust monster we are committing to looting his things next turn and we will have NO way of knowing whether he is distracted until next turn. If we are going to feed him we need someone on screen (preferably Ricki because dash (lets her leave and still get to the blues if we want to go there instead)
Good point. I thought the stuff would land on the platform for some reason, but I double checked and the platform isn’t in the way. It’s probably better to wait until we can carry the Blue’s rusted stuff too anyway.
What I’m hearing, besides don’t do this yet, is we should do this when we go for those chests.
Everyone: Drop your metal gear somewhere safe and shove the rusty items and the non-rusted daggers down the ladder then go down. After that, take your actions for the turn.
Kamau: Get the chest on the ground if it’s distracted and doesn’t want your hilt. If it wants your Hilt, tell the Kobold that the Red’s room is clear.
Lara: Sneak past the Rust Monster if it’s distracted and lift Ricki to the Chest on the ledge.
Ricky: Sneak past the Rust Monster if it’s distracted and let Lara lift you to the ledge chest and open it.
If anyone wants to copy/past this when it’s a good time, go ahead.
And, when it is time, take a look at that thing at the skeleton: Is it a shield (wood), is it a ball (leather), what is it? Because it is behind the rust monster, I presume that it is unguarded, thus Lara could just pick it up. while Ricki is looting the chest above. Ricki should even be able to drop down by herself, thus Lara could loot the chest before the rust monster, if Kamau didn’t do that already. If that works, it would be 1 turn into the room and looting, next turn leaving and reequipping metal things.

There is
1 rusty dagger at the top floor (with the knocked out thug),
1 rusty broadsword at the floor below,
1 rusty dagger at the floor further below, wielded by the blue thug in the middle.
I would like to get those items here first, we might need them to distract the rust monster. After interacting with it, we might not have the time to leave, fight the blues, return, to have enough tasty rusty stuff to feed to the rust monster.
Additional free action:
Kamau: pick up 16 gold to fill up your stack of 4 coins that you already have in your inventory.
If we get wandering NPCs in this dungeon, they might pick the gold up when coming across it, and deprive us of it. I wouldn’t want to waste inventory space with the other gold stack, but if we are already carrying around 4 coins, we might as well make that 20.
We now need something in here that implicates the blues.
Ricki: obtain a blue bandana and put it near the poster-chest… (or somewhere similar that looks like the blues attacked the reds base.)
Actually, the poster is clear evidence that the Reds got attacked by somebody other than the Blues.
