Dungeon 3 Turn 64
————
“So what, are we supposed to believe you’re just dressed like a spider worshipper for fun?”
“Sure. This whole conversation is a laugh riot.”
“Maybe instead of accusing her, you could ASK if she’s an arachnomancer? Are you, Lara?”
“Nope.”
“You can’t trust her, Ricki! The arachnomancers are an illegal cult that abducts people to use as sacrifices. If they’ll do THAT, I’m pretty sure they’ll lie, too.”
“And so every drow who wears black must be one of them, right?”
“Can we PLEASE put this off until after we kill the blob monster?”
“What blob monsters?”
“The giant amorphous black blob that came out of the graveyard. It was following you around earlier, and I think it’s still headed this way.”
“Son of a fu—”
That’s what SHE said! 😀
Well, regarding their swear words, Lara and Kamau get very well along. (Lara under ringing bell: “Son of a fu-“)
Anyways, the blob is below, and once again, we have no eyes there to see what’s happening.
If we want to drop the holy-ball on its head, then someone would have to act as a bait and hang on the rope at the top of the room, and another one waiting just to the left, to drop it in the right moment. That leaves us with one person who could go one room below and keep an eye there. But by lower-right ladder, not by the rope. Rope has to be clear for the blob and holy-ball. Just standing on the ladder near the centipede should be enough, centipede shouldn’t attack, and the observer would be well-hidden behind the room walls. I think bats below the centipede wouldn’t notice if we don’t get to the lower part of the room.
But there’s still the problem with the bats in our current room. Observer would need to go past them somehow.
And there’s still the possibility that the blob won’t run up to us immediately… and we get bored talking. How long do we wait until we try to take a peek futher to the room with many doors?
Theoretically any time anyone goes there to take a peek, they may meet the blob waiting at the room’s end and game over — but the blob seems to pause right after entering a room, we’ve seen that twice, so I think we can assume it has this movement pattern.
If Bob is homing In on us: 2 turns of movement if our assumptions were correct
Dropping the sun sphere down the tower shaft carries some risks: 1) Bob might be able to dodge it. 2) The blast might destroy the rope, leaving us just one way to get up and down the tower, which could later leave us cornered in a fight to the death at the top of the tower.
Alternative idea: Kamau, Ricki and Lara all move to the top of the winch room, above the fly guy (where the skeledogs used to be). That way, we can bowl the sphere at Bob when he arrives at the top of the ladder, and still be able to retreat if we need to.
Yes, we would get attacked by bats on the way there, but with 5 attacks spread over 3 characters, we should be OK (though I do wish we knew Lara’s AC and HP.)
Bats all swarm the same character.
Ricki: Use magic lens on the blob if it enters the room
Kamau clearly doesn’t view Lara as an ally, so…no remorse from her, I guess? lol
I think yes. I think ‘remorse’ triggers on people who are considered fully in the team. We’ve got pretty strong hints that he doesn’t consider her an ally at this moment. The fact that she declares to help towards solving the slime problem (probably) won’t make him change his mind enough to feel well towards her. I hope it makes him change his mind enough to not attack her though.
Ricki questions to ask Lara: where did you come from? How did you get into the top of the tower? What do you know about arachnomancers?
I want to get a general idea about her motivations and ideals. So far all we know is she just doesn’t seem to care (maybe she has a death wish, hence agreeing to fight with us and the smoking habit)
Smoking is bad for the health of humans, especially if they have access to neither healing potions nor healing spells nor healing items. Maybe drows are not affected, maybe Lara needs to consume medical … stuff – who knows?
If Lara really is an arachnomancer, she might be able to recruit that spider below the ash skeletons (unless Bob kills it on his way up).
She should probably try not to let fly guy see her though; his reaction might be even worse than Kamau’s.
Okay. Blob is probably not coming up this turn, but will likely come up next turn. Let’s get our plan hashed out. Plan alpha strike:
Actions:
If blob comes into the room this turn:
Everyone: Stay out of bat territory and take action only if it means not getting in bat attack range.
Kamau: Stay between squishies and the blob. Use holy water and attack blob if it comes out of bat territory.
Ricki: Holy bolt blob
Lara: Drop sun sphere on blob
If blob doesn’t come through this turn: Hurry up and wait.
Additionally, offer Lara the leather armor and throwing dagger for use in this combat.
Sun sphere: “dealing 5 holy damage in an area when it makes contact” – should Kamau stay out of that area?! Hold attack until after sun sphere set off? Movement inside a room is free, thus I suppose it should be possible.
It was in the entrance room on turn 62. If it moves 1 room each turn and if it’sreally on its way up, it should pop up in our current room next turn;
turn 62 – entrance room
turn 63 – many doors room
turn 64 – winch room
turn 65 (next turn) – room where we are
Let’s get ready to attack!
I assumed it needs a move to go up and down the stairs like we do. My guess is:
62: Entrance room (downstairs)
63: Entrance room (upstairs)
64: Room of many doors
65: Winch room
66: Here
Plan caution:
If blob comes into the room this turn:
Ricki: Magic lens blob.
Everyone: If blob is coming up ladder or rope, exit to room above. Together.
If blob doesn’t come through this turn: Hurry up and wait.
Additionally, offer Lara the leather armor and throwing dagger for use in this combat.
Group: discuss more while we wait for blob.
IF blob is moving towards tower 1 room at a time, then it should be in the door room right now. And 2 turns away. IF it ignores enemies that is.
Honestly I think we should wait for it to come to us. Best case scenario: bats engage blob and bomb takes them out (and weakens blob), we engage after.
Worst case: blob ignores bats and brings the bats up to us. Bomb still takes them out however.
It was in the entrance room on turn 62. If it moves 1 room each turn and if it’sreally on its way up, it should pop up in our current room next turn;
turn 62 – entrance room
turn 63 – many doors room
turn 64 – winch room
turn 65 (next turn) – room where we are
Ricki: pass the dagger and torch to Lara (she can still use the dawn mitre ranged, and Lara can use the dagger either melee or throw it and continue fighting with the torch), if Lara has enough room.
If Kamau protests, reason with him that Lara will be a bigger help if she doesn’t have to fight with her bare hands.
Also Ricki: Tell everyone as much about the blob as you can (how it was smaller and “flatter” before and then bigger and more spiky and that three skeletons were in its way between flat and spiky) mabye Kamau and/or Lara know something about mechanissm like this.
Lara: accept the weapons.
Considering that the blob might be eating other creatures (at the very least skeletons seem a liekly option) and becoming stronger from that, maybe we -should- try to clear out the room more in addition to the above?
Kamau: interpose.
Ricki and Lara: attack the skeledog
All: disengage at the end of the turn and end up where you are right now, out of combat.
