Dungeon 3 Turn 65
————
“Here, take both my dagger and torch. You can use them against the blob thing when it shows up.”
“For all we know, she’s the one that summoned the thing.”
“Ooh, maybe, but I can’t quite remember. Was it a spider-shaped blob, by any chance?”
“Yeah, but the skeleton thing has been a problem for years, and I think the blob came out of the graveyard after I rang the bell… how long have you been here, Lara?”
“A few days. I climbed into the belfry from outside.”
“There, see? She had nothing to do with it.”
“IF she’s telling the truth.”
“Well, I’M telling the truth when I say we probably all need to work together to kill this thing! So everyone get ready, because I’m pretty sure it’s in the room below us right now!”
Ricki shoves Kamau and Lara towards battle positions whether they like it or not.
Ricki: Use the magic lens on the blob when it enters the room
Lara: If the blob climbs up the center by the rope, drop the sun sphere on it
We don’t need to wait until the lens is used on the blob to detonate our holy hand grenade. If it’s used in the center, it should wipe out most/all of the bats in addition damaging the blob. And using the sphere counts as combat, the bats will deal damage to the blob before dying, so that’s 12 atk.
Wiping out the bats means Kamau can engage the blob without worrying about bat damage, too.
What is stopping blob from attack us immediately upon entry? I’m just thinking how enemies still engage ranged attackers.
Kamau: holy water attack blob if it tries to engage the others.
In addition to the above Lara: Drop the ball on the blob even if it somehow gets to the bottom of the ladder in this room that leads up to your current platform.
As much as I hate to suggest this,… We should delay the attack and use the lens instead. We’d also see if the bats attack it. If we retreat back one room and it follows us AND the bats attack we’d have 2 turns of bat damage to help. If the bats don’t attack we can come down and engage.
Ricki: use lens on blob when it enters. The lead everyone up the ladder.
Everyone else: follow Ricki. Kamau, give Lara the leather
Odds of blob just eating bats, though?
The attack? Shouldn’t we be thinking of a way to double fake this thing and get past it and escape? I don’t think we’re meant to fight it. It looks mean as hell and we’re low on HP and resources. Get out, I say.
Well, we analyze it with the magic lens, we drop the grenade on it and the bats, and if we see that it is an Olde Undead God Monster, we use either the ladder or the rope to escape it. We need to wait which way it chooses to “circle” it. But wasn’t there a rule that we cannot leave the room in the same round that we attacked something?
Why delay? Oftentimes we can just do action at the same time. Ricky scans it, others attack it. Even if they do damage before we get the scan result (oh, details), we still learn everything we need. We don’t care if we learn it’s damaged a bit or not, d’oh. And if we kill it before we get the scan result, and if the slime being already dead messes up the reading – I think I couldn’t care less. If it dies so easily, than it was not that important anyways.
Everyone: Stay out of bat territory and take listed action only if possible without moving into bat range.
Kamau: Stay between squishies and the blob. Use holy water on longsword and attack blob.
Ricki: Holy bolt blob. If no line of sight on blob, use magic lens on it instead.
Lara: Drop sun sphere on blob
Food for thought:
But, by any chance, I’d wait & scan the blob if it shows up. I think tough that one person (like Kamau) could take a peek on the room directly above (Kamau, because I think we won’t have him run to the blob on sight, as we want to throw the ball on the blob and the bats, so whole Lara/Ricky: one of them throws the ball, other the shoots a holy-bolt – Kamau seems free for this turn).
“scan the blob”, “Lara/Ricky: one of them throws the ball, other the shoots a holy-bolt”:
Ricki should do the scanning, because: “Use on an enemy at range to learn their stats. Someone who can see enemies through walls can use this item through walls as well.” Lara seems fine with the ball (needs free inventory space to use it!), and Kamau should definitely be placed between Bob and Lara/Ricky, thus no running around. He might grab the mitre, shoot the monster and give back the mitre to Ricki, if that is even possible. (“trading items between characters doesn’t use up an action”, but could all three of them use the mitre or the longsword or another item in one single turn?) –
“strangely muted inside the chapel”: The other bell is blocking the way up/down, which will also block sound.
I would vote to not use the lens yet: the plan of attacking the blob with the sun sphere & bats is a good one, but doesn’t really need the lens initially.
Depending on how the monster looks like when it arrives (size/visuals) and after our attack (we may be able to judge somewhat how much damage we did), I would only then decide to use lens. After all, it is worth quite the bit and the blob is definitely not a monster we’ll encounter again, so if we can actually take out the blob without it, the lens would be kind of wasted.
