Dungeon 17 Turn 3
————

Macadamia tries for a third time to make some use of one of the ancient items on the shelves, but the books with the red covers are no more comprehensible to him than the last, and crumbles just as readily. The nearby flying book zaps him, but his corona shield absorbs the brunt of it.
Ricki returns to help Mac navigate the room’s various traps, and on the way she opens the nearby chest. The thump of the lid falling open echoes throughout the quiet room, and Ricki can see one of the piles of books start to shudder and animate, then fly off the shelves as yet another spelled book forms in response to the noise, seeking revenge. This is a library, after all!!
Inside the chest is a very rare reunexpurgated edition of that reference shelf classic, the Encyclopedia Apocrypha. This is… this is sure something.

Ricki and Mac both retreat to another room to avoid the angry books. As they go, they each cough up some maximum HP as the dust starts getting to them.

ENCYCYLOPEDIA APOCRYPHA, REUNEXPURGATED EDITION
Tool/Treasure
When using a Magic Lens or a similar item or ability, this tome of dubious knowledge can be used to give the item or ability a 80% chance not to be expended but also a 30% chance to fail and provide no information.
Weight 2, Cost 50

I’m a bit concerned that the bonus HP seem to get ignored for the “lose maximum HP due to dust” mechanic (check the “current party” page, there are two orange hearts right of the first crossed out one both for Ricki and Mac). It seems we have even less time that previously assumed.
100% agree. I perceive this the same way. Mac dies on turn 18, must be ordered to evac on turn 16th.
Also, funfact, ~”this is the library after all!” – I hope our guys don’t cough too much, the books seem to be sound-activated.
I have a feeling that these books are just monsters to be killed. Maybe we should touch them and let them all crumble. Otherwise they will all wake up when we fight kobolds or the bookworm, and waking them up makes them dangerous. Though, there is a small chance that the bookworm will prefer eating them instead of our equipment. I bet the books count as “carrying some paper” towards bookworm’s abilities, and his disenchanting might just instakill them. But that will buff the bookworm obviously.
I think the only thing we can actually “read and learn” is either behind the sealed door in special ‘vault’ that prevented it from crumbling. Or in the top-right room, and the sealed door conceal a tall boss, which conveniently has nice access to block our exit point (which we *will* need to evac the book, I bet Mac can’t just read the whole tome here, considering air and time and all)
Confirmed, boost from feast doesn’t save from max health 0.
Ok the gloves were a bust but I have a good feeling about the breastplate and wizard staff. Let’s go pick them up
Not ideal. We’re 75% in and no clear path to our goal.
Ricki: go up the ladder and read the green book. Point out both trap door traps to Mac and avoid. Scout right.
Mac: avoid the traps and scout right with Ricki
Smiff the Midas gloves.
Just trying to give everyone and action here. We’ll confirm if green is the one correct one or if we are missing something else
I am hesitant to fight any skellies as that may also wake books up…
The observation, that we loose hit points anyway (https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-17-turn-2/#comment-22054), means that we should loose them early,
But just now seeing what is in the upper right room seems more important to me.
Now for the game of “is LSN too busy to update, or did we screw up big time?”
