Dungeon 17 Turn 10
————

Ricki finishes off the second red flying book, taking no damage in the process, then picks up the two enchantment scrolls that fly out. She gets one shocking scroll and one freezing.
Macadamia retreats from the grimoirm, which doesn’t pursue. He uses his pick to knock open the dungeon wall by the ladder, destroying the pick in the process, then heads through the narrow tunnel in the small enclosed space.
The noise from the wall shattering causes another nearby book to animate and start flapping around.

On the other side of the tunnel, Mac finds himself on an upper platform in a room he’s already been to.

ENCHANTMENT SCROLL OF FREEZING
Consumable
Can be consumed to bestow the Freezing enhancement on a weapon or ranged weapon until the end of the dungeon. If 5 HP are spent when doing so, the enhancement is instead permanent.
Weight 1, Cost 25

Plan: red means go
Ricki: grit and go through the hole. Point out pressure plate trap to Mac. Hop over it and move left.
Mac: hop down and read the red books. Hop over pressure plate trap and move left.
Next turn Mac can grab his stuff and Ricki loots since we have all books and we don’t need to worry about things waking up.
‘consumable’ on scrolls got a new meaning in this dungeon 😀
Ricki: Drop the Scrolls you just picked up to the bottom of the ladder, Grit, go through hole. Point out pressure plate trap to Mac when you move left with him and evade it yourself.
Mac: Hop down with Ricki and then read the red books near the top of the ladder. Hop over the trap that Ricki points out and move left with her.
Reasoning: Basically the same as Claudious’s plan, but we have Ricki drop her scrolls at the bottom of the ladder to avoid provoking the worm(s) when we cross their line of sight. We can have Ricki pick them back up when we come back to interact with the red door.
Also: does the green book waking up like that screw us if we need to kill/interact with them all? I don’t think we’re tanky enough to fight one AND four kobold skeletons. At most we can try to have Mac snipe it from on top of that ladder above the worm, but that still feels kinda risky.
If we needed to kill all books, then we’ve already failed and one more is moot.
Fair enough! I’m not really sure what we’re supposed to be accomplishing in this dungeon tbh; it would have been nice if the symbols on the door changed when we did things, like it did in the manor dungeon.
If we are healing just Ricki, better use a wand cuz grit can be shared but not wands
Being more efficient cuz time is getting low
Ricki: Move left to drop both scrolls with Mac’s stash. Move back right to loot locked chest.
Mac: Read red books.
Next turn Ricki can follow Mac to point trap then Mac continue on to grab stash with scrolls while Ricki loot skeleton chest.
Reasoning:
This let us trade the scrolls to Mac for free. We want that cuz Mac has the space but will be busy reading, getting his stash back and smiffing so he won’t have time for chests.
I dont think healing is a good use of our limited actions right now.
Ricki is still at 2hp, and we’re not fighting anything else at least for a couple turns. The limiting resource is max hp right now, not hp, so using half our turn on healing is like spending max hp for hp.
And we wont really be healing for 3 cuz we lose hp with max hp if we are at max so its like, 1-2 by the time we may need it.
AND even if we find out later we need hp to do something, better loot for now cuz we can heal any time and it give us no new info whereas the unknown chest items could be relevant for red door or plans for the rest of the dungeon..
Honestly, I do not think we’ll meet the great-old-bookwyrm as a boss of this dungeon we need to kill. After all, “The Glorious One is dying”, right? And that was long time ago. I bet it is properly-fully-dead already, so I do not expect a huge fight behind that sealed door, considering how this dungeon is designed to drop our health, which even at start was not very high. After unlocking the door, I do expect one one more final mechanics to figure out while the time is running out..
Also: consindering the layout, not counting the big unknown behind sealed door, those two chests we’ve just got to – that’s the furthest corner of the dungeon (if not for the Dig), so there’s high chance there is something important in them.
My only concern is if, somehow, opening the chest happens first and wakes the red book before Mac can read it. Unlikely I know but…
At least the chest is in another room than the red book, increasing our chance of not wakening the book. – By the way: Has it been pointed out already that the unlocked chest below the ancient sword (upper right room) is trapped (quadratic lock)?
– and also the 3rd step from the top of the ladder next to it is trapped.
