Dungeon 14 Turn 30
————
The entire party heads to the upper rooms. Macadamia barely makes it ahead of the giant killer dinosaur.
Kamau throws himself headfirst into the fight, absorbing four attacks from the miners. Though his rings of evasion appear to be malfunctioning, he manages to avoid any damage. Ricki and the little mushroom defeat one of the miners, while Macadamia and Daisy defeat the dragon tamer even as he attempts to heal his wounds. Botanya summons a new flytrap to replace the one that was previously pruned.
The remaining dragon tamer blows on his tyrant horn, which seems to result in the lower floor of this room being rent asunder! Surely the room below has also sustained damage. There may no longer be an easy path down from this area…
“Macadamia barely makes it ahead of the giant killer dinosaur.”
While pushing a pack mule with fully loaded panniers up a ladder. Mac is a hero.
Plan: prepare for the worst.
Kamau: interpose on left side. Make sure everyone gets to safety.
Botania: move left. Trade Midas gloves for rope with Mac.
Ricki: case the holy tamer. Move left.
Mac: move left and scream like a little girl. Trade a rope for the Midas gloves.
This plan assumes the worst and that when the horn gets blown again, king will destroy the floor we’re currently on. If that happens, only kamau would be at risk of falling since everyone else would be in the next room. If he does fall, he can afford a hit from king while he gets to safety. No one else can without kamau remorsing.
If King doesn’t destroy the floor. Then everyone can return and finish the fight
(1) I don’t think the King can reach any further than she did right now. But maybe she can jump, we’ll see.
(2) Take note of the size of the hole. Apparently, not whole floor was destroyed. Or maybe it “is being destroyed” now, and we will see the whole floor missing in the next panel. But there’s a chance that King is capable of only doing a hole, which gives us more time and more options. Most probably the ladder is totally gone as well. There’s a chance that the King actually used the ladder to reach to the ceiling. That would be very reassuing, but we’ll probably not learn it for sure, since there are no more similar ladders, except for the rooms on the very bottom.
(3) Thing worth considering is —- this is Turn 30. Bad things often happen near this time. Maybe it was a well-timed one-off event, but maybe the King have entered enraged mode or something, and will destroy walls any time she hears the horn.
(4) If King manages to destroy next part of the room, Kamau will surely take falling damage, worth about one full room height, and depending on how much that is, he might be hurt, but should have some HP left. He can’t move this turn, and will fall and be unable to move due to interpose and falling, but on the next turn he will be able to action-move for 2 mov. On the turn when King (maybe) destroys the floor, the King will be already busy destroying the floor, so she shouldn’t have any action left to bite on Kamau that turn. So worst case seems like falling damage and no real movement on this turn, then action-move-left-twice on the next turn while being bitten by Tyrant once. Also, he still has dauntless charge. Seems safe-ish.
(5) it’s interesting turn of events. Previously, Tyrant ran to the baby below. Maybe the horn was too far from the baby below, and only Tyrant heard the horn, and baby didn’t hear it and didn’t make a call. Or, maybe the horn was now much closer to the King, closer than the baby, so Tyrant went straight towards the sound of the horn. Or she did it because she knew there was no route for her to go up. Either way, except the last case, if King can destroy the ceiling BETWEEN ROOMS in certain conditions, I think she might also be able to easily destroy the floor WITHIN a room. We’ve gotta be super-careful about that from now on.
I think we need to finish lightning tamer. We can’t afford to have the kobolds with a horn threatening our move in this dungeon. After all, the floor was destroyed because tamer sicced King to attack.
Ooh, I just noticed that the TRAP in the lower room, the one which is paired with the grooves on the ceiling, actually does NOT related to anything meaningful in this room we are in right now. The only thing there is a scorpion and a chest, but these are way off the place where the ceiling-grooves are. I wonder what that trap was meant to drop on our heads. I was totally sure it will be something visible in this room, like, a pile of stones.
Maybe that trap was just meant to drop a piece of the ceiling on our heads. It might also have made the scorpion and chest inaccessible without a rope
Plan: prepare for the maybe not so bad
Ricki: Move as leftward as you can and stab the Lightning Tamer. Have Daisy bite them too.
Kamau: Stay as leftside of the room as you can and still interpose for the group.
Mac: Move to the far left of the room. Throw your Shocktail at one of the Kobold Miners with your atlatl.
Botanya: Scout leftward.
–
Moving everyone out of face hole range in case the trex can double jump. Ricki + Daisy does enough to defeat the Dragon Tamer.
Throw Sue down the hole to engage the attention of the rampaging dino
So I just had a potentially very dangerous idea…
Goal is to “Disrupt the source of the elemental reptiles OR defeat the Tyrant Lizard King”
Could we disrupt the source by having Mommy destroy things in a pattern that renders the base unusable or unstable? Or potentially making the roof cave in on the baby enclosure?
For that matter, are there places where we could have someone blow a horn to get Mommy to remove the floor under an extent elemental lizard?
Given that king didn’t destroy the floor when Mac blew the horn above the lower ladder room group, I think only some areas are destroyable. That or it needs to be chasing someone which I’d really not do…
If we are trying that route, we may not need to destroy the whole place.
King’s description says that “even the sturdiest obstacles cannot stand in its way if it seeks to protect its young”. Maybe all we need to do is have all 4 characters blow on the horns in the corridors above the hatchery. This might cause King to rip those doors apart and simply leave with the baby.
We might need a set up turn with calling King to the nest first, and I say we need all 4 characters using the horns so the effect is more stressful for the mommy, which might prompt her to destroy the door. Once the nest is empty and King is out, we just wrack the nest.
There is of course the chance that King decides to set permanent watch on the eggs.
So is there like a really big freight elevator something somewhere|? How’s the tyrant changing floors? Is he just very carefully climbing up and down ladders? Are these magic ladders? Should we loot the ladders? Ladders.
I like how this dungeon is set up. This is exciting and way better than swarms of guards showing up at a certain point
