Dungeon 14 Turn 31
————
The battle continues. Macadamia moves further into the room before throwing his javelin, taking out one of the miners. Ricki and Daisy focus on the remaining tamer (though Ricki’s weapon is less effective than normal), defeating him. Kamau manages to successfully dodge every attack levelled at him.
However, the tamer retains consciousness long enough for one last blast on his horn. The tyrant leaps from below and shatters another floor of this room, dealing 1 unblockable damage to Kamau, Ricki, Daisy, and all remaining enemy kobolds. Kamau suffers another point of Remorse. The miners end up on the right side of the room when the dust settles, while the party had all crossed over to the left.
Botanya moves to the left and explores a new room. She is immediately spotted by yet another group of kobolds.
Holy shit. There’s 3 more dudes with horns.
Edit: It’s 4! There is one by the baby!
That kobold-scientist looks odd.. does he have an eye on his forehead?
I wonder (a bit) what will happen if/when Botanya would go down by ladder. Would the small tyrant jump? fall into the hole? can this hole be used by Tyrant LOOOL how about we enter all here, Kamau interposes, Mac blows the horn, Tyrant jumps up via the hole and destroys the floor under 4x kobolds with crossbows? who needs floors when there’s jumping dinosaur! No, but seriously. This is dire. I had a good hunch to suggest buying back Paw from Paws. We might seriously critically lack ropes after we’re finished here.
edit: another weird idea – do we want to fight the turtle? if not, then maybe let the horn blow one more time in the room to the right, Tyrant might destroy another floor, right infront/below the turtle, cutting him off just like those kobold miners. We have some ropes, going up one level via just-made hole in the floor might be better idea than unlocking that grate-door while four crossbolds happily shoot at us. By going “up” we could surprise-attack those three yellow kobolds. For what gain? Dunno.
edit2: we’ve got a bomb, soo many options, soo hard to execute.. like, plant the blow the bomb under the small dino, maybe break the floor, maybe make it fall down? If the theory that horn activates babies, and babies activate Tyrant – this MIGHT prevent the Tyrant from jumping, since baby will be either dead (thus silent) or will fall to the lower level and Tyrant will be able to reach it without jumping.. or just blow yellow kobolds or crossbolds into outer space..
The kobold on the top level looks like a ringsmiffer with jewellers eye loupes. Could be a nice loot for Mac.
oh right! he really has some gold rings there
Sketch of a probably crazy plan, buuut…
Botanya get back to the right room.
Everyone stay near left edge of the room.
Mac blow the horn.
I assume Tyrant will jump again, destroying floor under the turtle and the defender kobold. Defender kobold may fall, turtle will be cut off. No more horns in this room except for the one under our control.
In the next turn, we keep silent, and we climb one level up.
Kamau helps people climb up and climbs up himself.
Ricky climbs twice, and unlocks the chest. Or the door.
Any leftover actions spend on any healing we have, because we’ll need to face 4x crossbolds that may get reinforcements from the yellows or scientists on the next turn after our attack, OR we face the yellows that may get reinforcements from crossbolds and scientiscs.. uuh, that may be nasty. But if we are super careful (like, Ricky-careful, not Botanya-fumbling), we might be able to actually blow up the yellow guys with a bomb, they are facing back to from where we could arrive.
“keep silent” in the next turn has a side effect – Tyrant might move away, or might stay camping under us, and we don’t know, but we might be able to test it out somehow.
It’s MUCH better to later descend in the left room, as we already have a hole in the floor, and we will immediately have a ladder to go down and be safe-ish. We just need to have a way to blow the horn in the right room to keep the Tyrant there, while someone descends through the left room. Or wait out so the Tyrant moves away far enough.
So.. “ideal” sequence seems to me: we blow now to have Tyrant open us a way up. Then keep horns silent for 2 turns (so the Tyrant moves noticeably away regardless if he goes right first, or left first) and pray the Tyrant really walks away, so he must first run to us for full turn before anoter jump. Then start aggroing those kobolds with horns and dispose of them before Tyrant comes back? Sounds impossible..
So maybe.. after those 1-2 turns of silence, if/after we loot the upper chest/etc, then try to attach the rope here in the right room and go down and left to the entrance and down via ladder? Or shuffle inventories so all guys with 1 mov can move left and action-move down, while mov-rich guys move left, fix the rope, and move down, ignoring the kobold that will sound the alarm? we’ll be at the entrance while Tyrant starts running, so we MIGHT be lucky to then have a turn to go down via ladders. But what about crossbolds? Kamau would need to interpose, so he won’t be able to action-move.. aaah.. I feel so bad at planning this 😀
Might be worth a try, but I don’t think right now is good. Is rather secure our exit back down before breaking more stuff
Plan: secure left room
Kamau: move left and interpose crossbow fire in melee.
Ricki: move left and unlock the gate
Mac: switch your two attack rings with the two silver defense rings. Throw your spear at one miner.
Botania: have your plant attack the same miner as Mac.
We cannot accurately predict what floors will get destroyed when the horn is blown. The unblockable aoe is very risky for remorsing kamau out. Let’s not blow or let a horn be blown until we have a safe place we can get everyone. Also want to work on getting a path back down to basement.
The ring swap with mac is on the off-off chance one or more of those kobolds have explosive bolts.
Is the worry that a miner has rings of defense? Mac should be doing 8 damage throwing a spear – that’s plenty to kill a miner under normal circumstances, and would work even with two copper rings of defense.
It’s insurance yes.
Plan: secure left room ver 2 Now with slightly more risk!
Kamau: move left and interpose crossbow fire in melee.
Ricki: move left and unlock the gate
Mac: switch your two attack rings with the two silver defense rings. Throw your spear at one miner.
Botania: have your plant attack a different miner as Mac.
Daisy: Attack the same Miner as the Plant
Same as plan before but if the miners dont have any rings, then the pets take out an additional miner for us. There would have to be at least 2 kobolds with explosive bolts for Daisy to be at risk which is very unlikely given we havent seen those at all this dungeon.
