Dungeon 11 Turn 34
————
Ricki’s party charges into the room containing the third golem. While Ricki and Kamau attack it head on, Amadeusz hangs back and once again tries to make the construct miss its massive attack. It works! The melee fighters take no damage.
While that’s going on, Macadamia shuffles his inventory, even dropping a suit of chain armour to make room for the new longbow. He struggles to wield it, but even so manages to land a killing blow on the golem! After it topples, Ricki adds its core to her collection.
However, once she’s no longer engaged in combat, Ricki also notices a dead body just beyond the golem. It looks like some poor soul was wandering around and ended up getting killed by it. He has another, smaller golem nearby that seems to share design elements with the scout she found in a chest earlier. Could he be one of the contractors that was mentioned in some of the notes? A golem engineer? Unfortunately, it seems like she won’t get a chance to ask him.
If only she and her party had arrived sooner to help… but there’s no time for regrets. If she stays too long, something like this could happen to one of her friends, too.
It sucks we missed out on a party member here, but on the other hand, at least we can focus more on the fellows we do have!
The local Tech-God is going to have a rough time of it though, now…
Blast those that decided to loot instead of rushing over here!
To play devil’s advocate:they probably didn’t know the smith would try something this stupid.
I’m not sure what we could have really done differently here since he apparently escaped on Turn 20; in all likeliness this guy and his construct got bodied by the golem within a few rounds. I guess if we had killed this golem he might have been able to survive long enough to cross paths with one of our other characters? Or maybe he didn’t run into this room right away, since it looks like he might have needed to craft his golem buddy- probably using the box of parts that was in the prison area. Assuming that he got the sword and shield from a chest, that’s probably another turn- meaning that he might have engaged the larger golem as early as Turn 23. Which is still over ten turns too late to help him out, sadly.
Judging by the human-sized golem lying next to him, I imagine that he was another pet-focused character like Cordy or Botanya, only with golems instead. I don’t think losing him is going to be a huge loss with that in mind, though it still stings since we’re losing out on whatever potential he might have had.
I think the biggest mistake here was assuming that we could wait around as long as we wanted like we did with Botanya. The lesson we should have learned from that- and now this- is that when something unknown happens in a different part of the dungeon we should shift gears immediately and go investigate to see what it is. We put a huge emphasis on gathering information and scouting, but in both cases basically ignored the huge telegraphed text saying “SOMETHING IS HAPPENING OVER HERE”.
In the future I think it would be wise to do three things: first, investigate any obvious prompting ASAP. Second, investigate unique-looking characters- they’re usually either new friends or enemies with unique loot on them. And the third might be a bit controversial, but I think we should try and kill more enemies as we progress through the dungeon, so long as it would make navigation easier. It’s fine to do cost/benefit analysis on enemies guarding chests, but a big golem guarding an intersection is probably something we should take out for the sake of moving between rooms more easily if nothing else.
Anyways; we have three Golem Cores now. I think we should have Ricki ask Amadeusz if he thinks they’re strong enough to take out the support pillars; if not (or if he doesn’t know) then we should probably try and grab up any remaining loot (like the rings to the left of us) and get out.
According to the text in D11T0, we need instructuons to create the bombs. That or we find someone capable to.
Oh. Um, that might have been our guy.
Which room was he in? He might have left notes lying around, and if we’re really lucky they might even be comprehensible
He was there: left room, lowest level:

Dead moustache guy here has same shape of body, same ‘levitating’ limbs as the guy in 11/2, but that guy in 11/2 has a distinctive helmet that we do not see here. I see no point why would he take it off before battle? But yeah, too similar, it might be the same guy.
>w>
He drop any good loot?
The loot is already on the ground. I would suggest we don’t loot it as a matter of principle.
quick! restart his heart with the power of a golem core!
but, left moustache guy, or right steelhead guy?
or both?
From How to Play:
If a character’s HP drops to 0, they are dead. A dead character cannot be revived, and is gone from the game forever. If Ricki dies, then Dungeon Eyes will come to an abrupt end. No other character has her unique ability to navigate a dungeon! It’s important to bear this in mind and be careful about allowing characters to be hurt.
From Discord (paraphrasing a conversation with LSN on the matter):
Dead allies’ bodies stay displayed there unlike enemies, so you guys know what you did.
Very sad that we lost the little grampa an8d his golem buddy. Warforged is one of my favorite races in D&D.
But I guess we might still have some (maybe very bad) options.
1, try to reanimate the small golem with one of the cores we have;
2, talk to the other prisoner and see if they can fix the small golem;
3, make a pact with the tiny devil in the corner.
Bonus points if the devil can place little grampa’s soul inside the golem to bring him back to life. Repercussions to be dealt with later.
EDIT: I guess we can also simply move on.
ALPHONSE!!
Ahem, I mean, that would be really cool, if the tiny devil could do that
Reminder that the Imp was hurt by an ability that targets enemies.
Ricki: go left, grab the keys, complete the keyring.
Kamau: Climb the letter to the left of this room, interpose against guard using your shield.
Amadeusz, Shroom and Maca: Attack the same Guard Kamau is interposing, using siegesword in Amadeusz’s case.
Gotta keep moving. We can’t plan more complex actions for the next room without having eyes on it and seeing which lever opened (even though I guess it is the top one).
Remember How to Play: once a character is gone, they’re just gone, no rez.
The top one will open, because the golem smith broke out somehow (explaining why nothing happened when Ricki tried to pull the corresponding lever). The lever Kamau pulled likely opened the lowest door, while the middle one is likley still closed (and controlled by the lever near the skeletons)
Dead guy was in the bottom one, new lever most probably opened the top one.
The old dude is the contractor who was trying to escape. You can see that the body matches the figure in the bottom cell on turn 2 of the dungeon. It’s the same figure, minus the helmet. Remember the note that says he was trying to escape and that when one of the levers is pulled, we should have someone in the basement? That lever originally opened the bottom cell.
On turn 20, that was, in fact, his escape attempt and presumably he blew up the door and created some sort of golem. Maybe he’s some sort of arcanist. The lever Ricki pulled last page was broken because the contractor blew up the door and damaged its controls. Also makes sense with the location of his body. If we had decided to check out the noise on turn 20, we could have saved him.
He was also featured in the Ko-Fi teaser, just like the teasers for Botanya and Coccyx. 100% this was supposed to be a playable character. We’ll need to keep an eye out for someone who controls heat in the Arcane Tower, so something like this doesn’t happen again.
Perhaps the little demon guy can either bring him back or send us back to turn 19?
The idea of using the imp to possibly reanimate the PC is very intriguing to me. having said that… I think there would likely be some shady repercussions on possibly the dwarf and likely Ricki. I do sorta love the idea though, but it’s likely going to be a no go.
Oh damn. I think this guy was the dude featured in the Ko-Fi teaser. Yup, that was a playable character!
Kamau: Climb the ladder at the left of this room, interpose against guard using your shield.
Amadeusz, Shroom and Maca: Attack the same guard Kamau is interposing, using siegesword in Amadeusz’s case.
Ricki: Go through the rat hole into the room on the left. Use your Dungeon Eyes™ to take a good look of the whole room. Return through the rat hole to the former golem’s room. Go to the chest behind the guard (down the right ladder, up the left ladder). Drop the keys. Loot the box the moment it becomes unguarded.
Reasoning for the difference to Sick’s plan: We need to have a look at the left basement room. If flipping the lever released someone or something hostile, I do not want to endanger Ricki. Since
it seems favourable to get Mac, Golly and Ricki through the rat hole and out of the exit in turn 39. There is no time to use any of the keys, neither the collected ones nor the remaining one, and the keys are automatically left behind when we leave the dungeon, so we can throw them away now and make room for stuff. Even if we get construction plans for the bombs and assemble them, we can reach the pillars without keys.
What to do: Collect stuff from the golem’s room, collect stuff from the box in the 3-door room (if not emptied in between), possibly interact with persons/things from the left room. Exit the dungeon.
Let’s not overstay (again)!
Additionally (cannot edit): Daisy, while Ricki waits for the box to become unattended, attack the guard!
I retract this plan. Vote for Sick & Claudious’ plan instead. Thank you.
Credit goes to Sick for this plan:
Ricki: Head up the right ladder and through the rat hole to check on the prison cell room. Return to the group and attack the Elite Guard. Have Daisy attack as well. If the Guard drops any rings, loot them. (9+4)
Kamau: Head up the left ladder and interpose the Elite. Have Shroom attack them. (2)
Mac: Drop arrows by the dead dwarf and trade your Bow for the Suns Raze and Corona on Golly Head up ladder and read the note by the Elite. If the Elite goes down and drops the Tower Shield, pick it up and stow on Golly.
Amadeusz: Head up the ladder, attack the Guard with your Siegesword. (9)
Gets us 24 damage, safely checks the prison room, reads a note and gets us important loot drops.
We want extra damage on guard in case of hidden rings or potions.
DO THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE OR YOU LOSE OUT ON ENTIRE LORE!!!
What?
