“Huh, you’re right. That’s weird.”

“They must have entered later, after opening the door the same way we did.”

“Maybe long after the first three died.”

“No, that doesn’t make sense.”

“If two more kobolds had entered later and found the others dead, they would have at least laid the bodies aside.”

“These are all strewn about, and have no signs of injuries. None of them are very old, or they’d have more skull ridges. The air isn’t bad in here…”

“It looks to me like they all starved, close to the same time.”

“So, maybe they entered not long after the first three?”

“Actually… now that I’m looking at the skulls, I think two of them are quite a bit younger than the others. Younger than me, maybe.”

“…Oh!“

“Well, we do know at least one way for three people locked in a room to turn into five people, right?”

“That’s an option, I suppose. They could even have had their eggs with them when they were sealed inside.”

“Though I don’t care to think why they would do that with children on the way.”

“I guess, in the end, the only thing we really learned was that these kobolds loved their dragon. And it sounds like she was at least trying to keep them safe.”

“The things we read here are… different from the stories I’ve heard before, I’ll admit.”

“I suppose it’s fair to expect that some dragons were worse than others, and maybe this one was slightly less tyrannical than average.”

“But think of how much better off these kobolds would have been if their dragon had just surrendered to the Emperor!”

“Instead of ordering them all to lock themselves underground to slowly waste away!”
