Dungeon 11 Turn 43
————
After Ricki points out the traps for Mac and Amadeusz, she drops a golem core on the floor and leaves. Macadamia picks up the gold ring and heads to the left, while Amadeusz reads the note next to the locked door:
βKEEP DOOR LOCKED AND DO NOT MAKE A DEALβ
Kamau holds off the scorpion yet again while Ricki gathers up the sheets and mattresses off all three beds, rips them into long strands, and braids them into a functional rope. She isnβt sure why the sheets change colour in the process.
Ricki: Head down, then point out traps in the kennel to Amadeusz one last time. Head left, then left again, and create another Bomb using your Hammer, Rope, Golem Core, and the Spare Parts by the Anvil.
Kamau: Interpose for Ricki as she heads to the basement. Protect her from the Scorpion and any potential Guards.
Amadeusz: Avoid traps, head up, drop your battleaxe and pick up the dropped Golem Core.
Macadamia: Swap your current rings for two of the +1 Def Rings in your inventory. Head through the rat hole, then up a floor, then use your Action to exit the dungeon.

Haha hope the front door isn’t locked.
Can’t we please use the rope up on the battlements to escape, instead? I don’t like the look of the guy who arrived with the pidgeon on his wrist.
That would be the slow but safer path. Having Ricki move up and set the rope up while Kamau interposed the intersection and Macadamia made his way up. If someone wants to go that route they can post that comment. But I wanna make bombs.
Ricki: And, of course: Avoid traps yourself and after the bomb building store everything in your inventory.
Kamau: The unlocked/upper one, in case more than one chest is trapped.
Mac: Stacking the atk rings in your inventory and wearing the def rings frees up one slot. So, additionally: Swap Corona Shield with Tower Shield from Golly.
For Ricki, she has avoided traps that we’ve had point out to others without explicitly telling her to avoid them herself. There also aren’t any other items to store in her inventory other than the bomb.
For Kamau, there’s only one trapped chest in the Kennel. The one pointed at the dog pen.
For Mac, stacking the atk rings and wearing the def rings does not free up a slot, so can’t swap around shields without dropping items.
That is a “5” at the Def rings, not a “2”?! Where did we collect all those? And why do I already need new glasses again?
We’re not still holding onto imperial stuff, are we?
We are not carrying any imperial gear. Our only looting sin is Ricki will have one open inventory slot to end the dungeon.
Sin 1: We did not recruit the golem smith with his huge, empty inventory. (No looking into the inventory, but possible to ask him to pick up stuff.)
Sin 2: Did not: Transfer at least one of Mac’s aggression rings from hand into inventory (stack with rings already there), move at least one of Amadeusz’ def rings to Mac’s hand, move the gold ring form Amad’s inventory to his hand: 1 free slot at Amad.
Sin 3: Not having placed e.g. the arrows next to amboss and spare parts to pick up. But not sure whether picking up and bomb creating would have worked in the same turn, so we should have been just 1 turn faster. Could have done that by saving turn 27 at the enforcer, but who did know that?
Sin 4: We can move over the battlements to the outside of the dungeon. We can throw things. We cannot throw things between rooms on one level, but we can throw things down: https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-5-turn-26/ We did not consider whether we can throw something over the battlements (or dangle them down with a rope) and later collect it outside.
May the gods have mercy.
If I was GM, I wouldn’t have allowed you to throw stuff off the dungeon battlements and have it be collectable later. Stuff breaks when falling (see tomb), there are guards outside that would HEAR stuff falling down, pick it up and be alerted, a wild animal could drag it away, etc, etc.
I am a Monty Haul DM.
Why do you think LSN would allow that?
Honestly I could see him going either way on it. I could see him allowing it for non-breakable items, simply having the characters tell us it’s a bad idea (“Ricki is worried this could alert guards outside, so she decides to hold on to it”), or punishing us with an extra patrol.
Sometimes he’s cool with silly stuff like this, sometimes not.
Additional sin: bringing Halloween candy when we do not use it, blocking another item slot.
PSA: Sick recently edited to Kamau interposing from him looting because he thought LSN wasnβt aware that RIcki and Kamau moved downward last turn per the plan.
The matter has been clarified on Discord but he is unable to edit back so I reposted his previous version: https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-11-turn-43/#comment-12818
Please adjust your votes before it’s too late.
It’s the urea, Ricki. Guards are bedwetters.
On a more serious note, LSN notified us on Discord that a Legion will be incoming on Turn 45.
Sounds like we should get moving then. Time to jump off the roof?
better we wish Amahl Farouk is not included xD
Then I vote we wait for turn 45. Farm the legion for xp
Living up to your name, I see… Hehe
Well, the Emperor does not like that his guards make deals with the devil, and i just remembered that sometimes Asmodeus is considered a deity in certain fantasy settings.
Make the deal!
Make the deal!
Make the deal!
Make the deal!
Make the deal!
See this is why I didn’t want to talk to him in the first place, lol
What I don’t get is why everybody is so threatened by this imp, but not threatened by hanging around until turn 50 and making bombs. I really think we’re playing with fire letting all these guards in, yet just *talking* to the imp is so much worse? Swarming guards will eventually lead to guaranteed death, but the unknown is somehow worse? Like we don’t have to actually take the deal, but why can’t we figure out the rules of the game a little. We don’t know what scope of miracles the imp can perform. Can he turn back time? Can he raise the dead? We don’t know how bad the consequence is. Are they really actually bad, or does the imp just *think* they’re bad? Knowing what an imp does might give us valuable info for the next time we see one.
I’ve heard so many people say they won’t take the deal. You really don’t have to be worried about me and Sick. We’re the vocal minority. There’s not a chance we don’t get overruled. All I want to do is TALK to the imp, and because people are so scared that my decision will somehow persuade them to take the deal (and my decisions never have), I’ve even promised to stay quiet once we TALK to the imp to remove the factor of potentially bad decision persuasion.
Why are we scared of this thing? Talking to it can only hurt if making a deal is a guarantee or if vocal minorities like me and Sick and Darus actually have the power to overrule the rest of you, which, judging by the perfectly rational, perfectly justified, democracy-working-as-it’s-supposed-to downvotes, we don’t. You are protected by democracy. The people who actually want to make the deal just don’t have the votes. It’s not gonna happen. But we CAN just talk to the imp. That’s all I want, with my tiny voice which has never had any influence in Dungeon Eyes, ever. You guys didn’t listen to me when I expressed concerns about turn 40 and you don’t have to, and sure enough, you chose a different route. Ergo, me advocating for talking to the imp and telling you I’m deliberately removing my voice from the conversation once we deliberate on whether or not we take a deal–shouldn’t jeopardize the game at all.
I’ve been expressing concerns about turn 40 since turn 35 or so. I’ve been saying “let’s wrap this up and get out by turn 39” or “okay we did that but now let’s scoot” pretty much every turn I bother to comment.
Yes, if I remember the other dungeons correctly, we simply seem to be totally unable to get out in time. Sight.
Cordy had “They seem nice.” What if the imp has “The deal is good.”? You were not alone with your wish to be out before turn 40, but somebody voted to be still in the dungeon at turn 44. There is the danger that deals are made which are not good but evil. So, I understand the caution about it. As an additional note the Tomb had “The imp will appear in other dungeons. In this one, itβs a failure state.” (https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-9-turn-56/#comment-11209), i.e. learning about the deal in this dungeon would not help for other dungeons. What I think interesting indeed is: Can we communicate with the imp/someone through a closed door? Even if the imp would control Amad, he would need 1st turn to move up and fetch the keys and 2nd turn to move down and open the door (ignoring the traps in his way).
And why I’m so concerned about the imp:
It’s a fantasy staple that demonic creatures (and genies and such) will make offers that sound appealing, sound fair, and are easy to accept. But when you take the deal, you find out later you really, really shouldn’t have. Like they said “I’ll return you to turn 10 off the dungeon, but a patrol comes on turn 15.” It sounds like a trade with a cost, but what they don’t mention is that the patrol has been informed of your presence and sends word to the enforcer on the roof and gets all the guards and golems to pile on you at once. Or “I will bring back the Smith, but two of your pets will die.” Sounds like a trade with a cost, but by “bring back” he meant physically warp the body into this room, not return to a state of living… Etc.
I think that’s fair. We don’t have time for the imp, anyway. We NEED to get out of here, though.
All truth.
Not that anyone is likely to read this at this late date, but:
I don’t disagree. I just don’t think talking to an imp is the way to find out. If we ever do talk to one, I would assume everything it tells us is a lie.
More on brand for fantasy imps/devil’s would be that everything it says is technically true, but exceedingly misleading. Including some statements that are “misleading” by telling an undoctored truth, so that you become convinced that that truth is in some way a lie/misleading.
Basically unless you’re convinced that you’re significantly smarter than the DM (I don’t think we are), or that the DM is going to go really easy on you (I don’t think he will), best not to talk to it at all.
We might save that contractor! Why not save the contractor?
Make the deal!
Make the deal!
Make the deal!
We should unlock the door and make a deal. π
Going to repost something Tem pointed out in case people aren’t reading that far into comment chains:
βThe imp will appear in other dungeons. In this one, itβs a failure state.β
In a previous dungeon, imp was literally a “fail the dungeon” button. He probably isn’t much different here.
We definitely don’t have time for the imp, anyway. I just think priority wise, it’s not as dangerous as running out of time. We NEED to get out of here.
There was word from fate at Discord that there would be no turn today.
But please keep voting at https://www.topwebcomics.com/vote/26944
“today” meaning Monday, 2024-03-04.
Earlier in the comic, Kamau mentioned deals with demons always end in negatives, no ifs, ands, or buts.
I’m all against talking to the imp at this moment, and all for GTFO’ing instead.
But if Kamau said ‘demons’, and this guy here is ‘imp’, then that might be two different kinds of creatures. Technically.
*sighs* An imp is nothing but a lesser demon. And Kamau was DIRECTLY referring to an imp in this quote.
This is Sick’s plan before he edited to Kamau interposing because he thought LSN wasn’t aware that RIcki and Kamau moved downward last turn per the plan.
The matter has been clarified on Discord but he is unable to edit back so posting this version again:
Ricki: Go point out traps in to Kamau and Amadeusz in the kennel one last time. Head left, then left again, and create another Bomb using your Hammer, Rope, Golem Core, and the Spare Parts by the Anvil.
Kamau: Go loot trap chest in kennel after avoiding ladder trap, dropping sword as needed
I’ve been re-reading the Guard Outpost in preparation for doing the Research Facility and I cannot help but wonder what would have happened if we’d used a Bomb to blow open the door to the Kobold contractor’s room and let Macademia see the Ringsmif’s prison-like room and skeletal form before Mac fled. That might have been REALLY important for Mac’s storyline. I don’t know if there would have been enough time to pull it off but it might have been really worth it in the long run. Oh well, what’s done is done and it’s “water under the bridge” now.
