Dungeon 9 Turn 1
————
Ricki and her friends advance in a group to the locked chest, sheltering behind Kamau’s heavy shield while she unlocks it (at the expense of one set of tools). Inside she finds three wooden stakes, which will no doubt prove useful in this undead-themed dungeon.
While Kamau blocks an arrow from the skeleton, which he notes hits a bit harder than he expected, Lara tries to converse with them.
“Hey Cyx, what’s your problem with “breathers” anyway?”
“It’s an unnatural state of being! Death is the one universal truth that awaits us all!”
“Uh huh. What if we bribed you somehow? Would you let us pass?”
“Never!!”
It seems like this conversation is going nowhere fast. Coccyx shows no intention of changing their behaviour. Unless the party can find something in the dungeon somewhere to change this situation, it seems they’ll have to either ignore the skeleton or destroy them somehow.
Botanya tosses a seed on the cold stone floor, which instantly sprouts into a flytrap which walks around on little root legs. The flytrap starts following Kamau around at Botanya’s instruction.
Ok. LSN has given us a clear message that further actions trying to talk will not stop him from attacking. It MAY provide more info, but not really worth wasting an action. We need to treat him as an ongoing hazard.
My suggestion:
Kamau: Interpose for the group.
Lara: Attack Skelly 1
Ricki: Attack Skelly 2
Mushrooms and Plant attack Skelly 3
Bot: Pick up as many arrows as you can then move down next floor.
Cyx will either shoot Kamau (who is tanking) or follow and attack Bot (who has Def 8). I seriously doubt he can do damage to Bot by himself so this will give us eyes on the next room as well as mostly secure our exit in case we do need to abandon the dungeon. Both Ricki and Lara do 8 or so damage which should be enough to 1-shot a skelly.
May I suggest having Botanya pick up arrows before moving down? That way we use her action and get the arrows gathered, in case we find a bow to utilize later.
Good idea. Edited
Reminder that ranged weapons do a flat damage, and Kamau notes it hit “a bit harder”. That means a +1-2 buff. Bows most certainly don’t deal 7 damage, so Tanya should be clear
Bow base damage is 3, yes. Agreed with the likely +2 dmg against breathers, just like the corn lance deals +2 against non-breathers.
It might very well just be a flat dmg bonus. Like he’s an archer, so he has bow proficiency.
That could be it, as well, yes. Regardless, since Kamau says it hit a little harder, +2 is compatible with that language.
If we assume +2 moving forward we’ll be playing it safer with our estimates.
