Dungeon 6 Turn 51
————
Macadamia meets Lohk in the library and they trade some items, loading Mac up with defensive gear and turning over all the cool stuff they want to keep for later to Lohk.
Lara takes a swing at the knight with her fist, but does no damage. Furthermore, the knight doesn’t seem interested in sitting around and trading blows with her, instead following Ricki on her way back to the kitchen.
While Ricki takes off her ring of aggression and picks up the three sets of thieves’ tools, she is surprised when the knight climbs up the ladder and takes another swing at her. She takes another 1 unblockable damage.
Ricki: Grit and move to tomb.
Lara: Check inside the coffin then move to the basement.
Lohk: Move through the rat hole to the master bedroom to insure you’re more than 2 moves away from the knight. Cower.
Macadamia: Move to the master bedroom through the rathole and drink the potion of shield. Move back to the library.
Either the knight will continue to pursue Ricki, in which case we get to unlock two chests before needing to heal again, or he’ll go attack Mac. If he attacks Mac, Mac will get to heal when he goes to the kitchen, and we can teleport Lohk to the tomb to avoid the knight. We can’t reach the knight to attack him, so healing and repositioning is the best we can do. We at least want to recover the ring of aggression.
There is some more options for the knight.
One I wrote in my comment below – go hide and kill Lokh from a distance at turn 55. Try to catch him before.
Also if Ricki leaves I think the knight will be able to take and use ALL the stuff we left on the floor (like JUSTICIAR did before), Do you REALLY want it to heal, take ring of aggression, shield (and maybe to smoke and drink a little! ))))
I think we need to re-think the plan.
The Justiciar did not take everything himself, he had an army accompanying him. The knight could take something, through. He cannot use the potion of healing: “Restores 2 HP to any living creature when consumed.” or the ale: “Living creatures can drink it to gain +1 Def and a 20% chance to miss all attacks for five turns.” but could use the cigarettes. (An addicted undead?!) If he wanted to harm himself (itself?), he could grab the grave flower – or use the stake on itself.
Knight consumes potion. Knight consumes ale. No effect. Keeps going. Knight sees weapons that can be used against it, takes them in inventory to avoid this.
It’s an action to drink the potion and an action to drink the ale. If it does that and just sits in the kitchen not attacking anyone more power to it.
Huh? Monsters are subject to the same action economy as PCs? Where the hell did you get that idea?
It’s certainly not in the rules. You’re just making shit up now. Please stop spreading disinformation.
OK, agree, not ALL, but ANY of. I meant this.
I think the plan should be like this:
Lokh and Macadamia move somewhere 3 steps away from the knight («through the rat hole to the master bedroom» (c)?).
<Stay there the next turns.>
Ricki grits.
<The next turn take the ring, potion and shield (throwing away 2 Thieves’ tools). If Lara can’t kill it, the following turn help her.>
Lara checks inside the coffin then move to the basement.
<The next turn move and attack the knight. If can’t kill it then finish it the following turn>
What’s the benefit of making sure Mac can’t reach the knight? If you’re right and it grabs items we’ll need his damage to get past the shield.
Vise versa. If it reaches Mac then Mac is dead in two turns, no?
We CAN kill it now in two-three turns if Ricki stays where she is (without any casualties from party side).
If it puts on rusty chain armor, uses shield and ring of aggression – I’m not sure there will be good ending of the dungeon.
Mac can drink the healing potion in the kitchen as long as he’s two moves away from it. If he gets attacked this turn he runs back to kitchen and heals. When Lohk teleports to Ricki the knight SHOULD have no choice but to pursue us back to the kitchen where we can kill it.
What if the knight take the potion with it? Do you remember that It is good with tactics?
Also, is it possible for Mac to run and drink potion before receiving another (killing) hit? I’m not sure.
Anyway, I’ve finished with trying to save the team.
I think that we should not be greedy and finish it ASAP.
So, why He should not follow rick to kill her?
I think we all agree that we are not in a condition to fight right now. But with his moving around, I think we also all agree next turn we fight to kill.
Maybe too late, but Mac should end his turn in the library on the level where the door used to be, not in the owlbear room to avoid potential aoe attack hits everything on a “level” shenanigans. I can’t edit the original post because my IP has changed.
Lara internally questioning why she thought it’d be smart to punch the knight not knowing our strategy haha
Two questions:
1) If the undead knight go hide somewhere to hit someone with its spirit “weapon” on turn 55 what the team will do?
2) Do we plan to take rat tails from the dungeon (if anyone remembers about this “treasure” which grants “rat fang holder” at least +10Atk in 5 turns in comparison with long sword, and even more if the “holder” is Kamau with his Cleave ability)?
Upd. I’m not sure if 2 is currently possible, though.
Sounds unlikely, since his description explicitly says that he actively seeks out opponents. If he does that, though, we are screwed.
Agreed. Will hope this option to hide is more of Strategic level (not Tactical one) and it will really seek to fight someone NOW (according to description), but not try to kill someone after 3 turns.
The knight will follow and attack Rik, we have lost
Ricki has ability to heal.
So not lost yet (at least not because of this).
We will survive at most 2 turn,
1 survive for grit
2 survive because mother use mom sense and she would be killed instead (not certain)
3 rick dies
We have only one turn that nobody has to die
No, grit would buy us at least 2 turns without anyone dying, assuming the knight follows Ricki. Grit will restore 3 HP, which is Ricki’s current max. I agree though, that we are playing with fire here and risking the game over. We should kill the knight no later than on turn 53, again, assuming he will follow Ricki.
Jeff probably already knows this, but to be fully clear, it’s two turns after the current turn. Healing and damage cancel out, so if the knight attacks Ricki this turn she goes to 0 and is healed for 3, meaning she ends the turn at 3. It’s not the case that she is healed for 3, can’t go above 3 max health, takes 1 damage, and ends the turn at 2. Healing isn’t wasted when it’s above max health as long as damage is taken to cancel the extra in the same turn. LSN clarified this on discord at some point and it’s in the community rules doc.
Not yet, we still have Grit.
