Dungeon 6 Turn 45
————
After kicking apart a skeleton and opening the dresser, Ricki, Macadamia, and Lohk leave the master bedroom. Lara checks under the bed before following, finding a potion of shield which somehow glinted in such a way as to be mistaken for eyes. Lara finds this disappointing compared to the immaculate suit Ricki found in the dresser. Lara thinks Ricki would look really cute in it. She then moves back to the library.
The dog and rat continue to attack each other.
Ricki and Macadamia return to the entrance room. Lohk heals Macadamia on her way to the kitchen, restoring him to (current) full health, since he’s currently in danger of death from the ghost’s attacks.
Lohk continues on to the kitchen, where she finds an old friend waiting for her.

Lara: kill dog, Ricki and Lohk go to rat hole and kill rats, and Mac prepare to
Kill bat (not yet, give Ricki a second to collect the egg reward)
Comment deleted, because was incorrect.
This is wrong. Anyone can collect the egg per LSN on discord.
Lohk is so unlucky… we really gotta watch out for her. There’s like a 25% chance of her dying on turn 50 unless the ghost can’t kill people.
It explicitly can kill people, as per the note. And the odds are 100%, in practice. As in we cannot bet on this.
Why 100%? We have 4 team members, if the ghost hits truly at random, then it’s 25% she’ll get a hit next time. But that’s of course just guessing. But-but I can’t help noticing that again the ghost hit the person who was the nearest to the crypt entrance. Is anyone keeping a track on this? Did we have any counter-occurences?
We do have counter occurrences, like Ricki getting hit at the tower.
I say 100% in practice, because this is a bet I think no one wishes to take. If it was 100% our behavior would be the exact same, almost.
Fuck the egg and the weird dog. Kill everything and group up at basement. Looting and greed is done. Time to finish this.
Lohk: drop spare change at the kitchen, dropping it inside purse if possible. Then move left, and shoot a Ray of Frost at the bat.
Daisy: attack bat alongside Lohk.
Mac: Go to the kitchen, use Rabbit’s Paw. Listen carefully to Paws’ explanation on how the shop works, or just ask for such an explanation. We need to know how many items can be bought or sold with one actions, and if this can be done from the floor.
Lara: Go down to the entrance, climb on wardrobe to access the safe. Combination 10-11-16.
Ricki: move to the Kitchen, try to sell Immaculate suit and rope to Paws, and buy a lockpick in exchange. Then move down.
Explanation: We want Lohk to stay away from the tomb and kill the monsters that remain (a bat and two rats.) The Dog and plague rat are successfully killing each other, let’s leave them to that.
And we need to open the shop NOW, at least to find out how it works. And the chests downstairs. Ricki is the only one who can open the locks. Macadamia can, in extremis, dump all his equipment on the floor and rush upstairs to get the Pet Egg and Golden Longsword.
EDIT: Amended because Lara is actually starting out at the Library.
To clarify: depending on how the shop works (if, say, it takes one action per purchase), we may not want to sell too many items. I agree greed is bad. But we really must find out its workings. This is the last turn we can use to collect info, and with this strategy, the tomb will be open in two turns, leaving us two turns for swarming the boss.
This assumes we’ll be safe to grab the pet egg after opening the door. I’m not sure that’s a safe assumption. I think the earliest we could open the tomb and not give up on the pet egg is turn 48.
Mom Senses. Recall we have a near-teleport with nothing else left to use it on.
Lohk: Drop your gold coins in the purse, and the ring of aggression and shield on the floor then return to the entryway. Attack the remaining bat with ray of frost.
Daisy: Attack that bat with Lohk.
Lara: Go to the entryway and using the wardrobe to access the safe, try the combination 10-11-16.
Macadamia: Head to the kitchen and use the rabbit’s paw to summon Paws. Ask him about how the shop works and whether he has anything to help with unblockable damage or damage to max hp. If you get a chance to sell items, sell your longsword (3) in your current possessions as well as as many of the following items from the floor as you can.
To Sell:
Rusty chain Armor (5.5)
Bucket (3)
Cigarettes (3)
longsword on Macadamia (3)
Ricki: Drop your rope in the entryway, then head to the kitchen and interface with Paws. Sell the following items from your inventory/help Macadamia sell the floor items. Afterwards if possible buy a magic lens and two lockpicks. Drop any excess gold in our floor purse and then pop down to the basement for a look at the skull situation.
To Sell:
Immaculate Suit (18)
Heavy Pick (8.5)
Explanation: We actually have no idea how the store will work. It might be an action to buy/sell anything. I’m hoping we can buy/sell an unlimited amount of items we can access with one action, so I’m providing our ideal buy/sell state here just in case. We shouldn’t need the heavy pick if we are planning on using the wooden stakes to fight. This should take out the bat, try the most likely (imo) safe combo, and get Lohk in position to grab tower items next turn.
The safe combo I’m suggesting is the count of all enemies with rat in their name that were present at the start of the dungeon. It does not include the two rats spawned by the rat pile. I’m not sure whether including them is smarter than not including them, but including them implies the safe lock is magical and updates to count the full number of rats that have ever been present in the dungeon. I think that’d be weird.
Suggestion: Sell the rope as well.
I wanted to leave the rope in the entryway to try using it to reach the chest using the wardrobe and/or hopefully open safe door, but probably that doesn’t make sense.
I agree the combo prob wouldn’t change based on enemies spawned or killed, but i think the combo is just the regular 5 rats at start. How else could you describe the 5 rats as being the answer without saying number of rats. Rat is their name on the enemy page. If it included dire, plague and king it should be rat type.
My thoughts are least. I think we’re over complicating this like the chandelier again.
Do we know how many rats compose a rat pile? Should we consider that?
Lohk on Daisy has 3 moves and 1 action, right? Dropping the coins should not be an action. The two could then move to the cellar, look at the skull-door, move to the kitchen, move to the entrance, attack the bat. Is that correct or what did I get wrong?
I guess we need to get the egg, kill the rats, summon Paws, sell crap and kill the last bat before turn 50. It’s a lot to do.
For Lohk’s sake, I think she should carry all the grave flowers with her. It may make the ghost unable to target her on turn 50 if we ever reach that point. The description of the flowers don’t say they have this power, but we have seen the flowers slow or even stop undead from raising from their graves back at the church. It is a precaution that costs us nothing. Also, lets keep her (maybe even Mac) the furthest away from the tomb, if turn 50 comes up.
Hm. If Mac is now on his currently-max HP, would “immaculate suit” give him bonus? or not, since Mac’s max-hp is down?
Just to be clear, I’m only wondering about exact rulings. I don’t see how Mac, or currently anyone from out team, could benefit from wearing this.
Ricki: Go to the Kitchen and use The Lucky Paw. Sell the Beer, Bucket, and Leather Armor on the ground if you can this turn.
Maca: Go back to the Dog and Rat fight room. (Through the tunnel) Drink the Shield Potion.
Lara: Go down and try the Safe Combo 10-11-16.
Lohk: Drop the Gold (In the Purse if you can) and Ring of Aggression for someone else to pick up later. Go left and cast Ray of Frost on the Bat.
Daisy: Attack the Bat if it’s in range.
Explanations:
I’d rather not risk wasting time with the Dog and Rat killing each other only to find out one of them lived. Sending Maca to watch lets him kill the survivor if one survives and maybe try to recruit the Dog if it can be a pet. (Don’t think that will happen, but still mention it as something to try before murder.)
Also, Maca Drinking the Shield Potion should help with the boss fight.
Ricki using the paw this turn is so we can sell stuff. I also said to sell the stuff I’m sure no one wants.
Lara needs to spend all her turns moving to the final boss. Trying the Safe is because it’s there and we already have Lohk and Daisy attacking the bat.
Lohk can go up the tower to attack the Rats with Daisy and pick up the Pet Egg in the 2 Turns after fighting the Bat. We don’t want her fighting the final boss, so having her pick up the egg is a perfect use of her turns. The Ring is useless on her without her fighting anything that isn’t One Hit Killed, so dropping it is for the final boss.
EDIT: Changed who goes watch the fight and Maca isn’t attacking the Dog.
ReEdit for adding an argument for this plan: This plan doesn’t sell the Giant Pick. We can still sell it next turn if we want to. Not selling now lets us vote on shopping next turn instead of committing to one option now without voting in the comments. (Personally, I’d rather keep the Giant Pick.)
We know the dog did more damage its first turn than the plague rat did. That implies it did at least two damage. Presumably there’s some sort of buff or debuff affecting it on its second turn, otherwise it would’ve killed the plague rat with two attacks (they only have 4 hp and 1 defense, 5 attack in one hit kills them). It will die this turn no matter what. The dog may also die if it has only 4 hp since it’s taken 3 damage thus far. There’s no sense in going to attack the dog when doing so may stop it from killing the rat this turn.
The worst case scenario with attacking the Dog I see is it takes 2 Turns and that does sound likely, but I don’t see the Rat and Dog being able to kill each other happening, that sounds like a turn of watching and a turn of finishing the Dog, which is 2 Turns anyway.
Even if Ricki doesn’t attack, it’s a good idea to have someone up there to see who dies.
Alternate Plan
Ricki: Use The Lucky Paw.
Explanation:
Maca is there to watch and the Shield Potion should last for the Boss battle. Maca goes instead because Ricki can raise their Defence by switching from the Giant Pick to a One Handed Weapon and Shield.
LSN only looks at top level comments for plans, so this alternate plan won’t do anything unfortunately, despite the work you put into it.
The real worst case scenario is that having Ricki back there means she’s three moves away from doing anything else useful. She doesn’t have the equipment we want her to use in the fight, presumably (no wooden stake) and she doesn’t have any of the supplies we need to lens the knight. Ricki being three moves away means she’ll not be able to get to the kitchen to change her equipment for the boss fight until turn 49 if she has to kill the rat after stopping the dog from killing it.
removed. too much text, and others said similar things. If the goal of this plan is to get the tomb open at maximum speed, keep in mind that the earliest possible turn we can get the tomb open is turn 47. If Ricki is further than two moves away from the kitchen she will not be able to get herself geared up by the end of turn 47 (we need the wooden stakes) which makes opening the tomb that turn pointless. We need to have everyone in place with necessary equipment by the end of the turn we open the tomb. That means having the equipment we plan on leaving the dungeon with and placed no more than movement away from the tomb. For Lara that’s the basement, and for Ricki and Mac that’s the kitchen, tomb alcove, or tower rathole.
If we want to lens the knight, we will need to have Ricki in position with full equipment and having bought her a lens before then. There’s no point in unlocking the tomb early if we aren’t ready to fight the following turn. Doing so can only change the rules of the dungeon and catch us off guard. Either opening the tomb stops the attack of the specter, in which case opening the tomb before the end of turn 49 is pointless, or it doesn’t. If it doesn’t stop attacks, opening the tomb as soon as possible is only helpful if it also lets us kill the knight’s body before turn 50 (or 55 if for some reason it takes >5 rounds to kill the knight after opening), and there’s again no reason to rush opening the tomb if it doesn’t actually help our odds of success. We’re on track to open the tomb at the end of turn 49 at the latest without sending Ricki off to kill a potentially friendly dog (and thus stop it from killing a definitely unfriendly rat).
Do you really believe the blue dog may be friendly? We had Lara Venom-Sting’ed it instead of “hello”, and it responded with bites (we got info about that). Sure, it was under blue-eyes influence, but still I have a serious doubt here about its friendliness.
I’d rather not have Lohk in the safe room when Lara tries a new combo. Being there might mean a wrong combo may summon the ghost and it could attack Lohk.
We don’t need both the rat and the dog to die to open the door. We can confirm that this turn, because the rat has literally only one hp left and we should see a medium skull disappear from the door This plan risks taking two more turns with Ricki, who will then require an additional turn just to get to Paws to buy a lens, let alone do anything useful to help us prepare. That’s a total of 3 turns of doing nothing with Ricki, guaranteeing we won’t be able to enter the tomb on turn 48 and making rushing for the tomb ultimately pointless.
We’ve got two options here. This is long so I’m breaking the options down into two posts.
1) We hope that if we rush hard enough we can kill the knight before turn 50 and guarantee Lohk won’t die. Doing this requires (obviously) unlocking the door first, and that will require killing the rats in the rat hole in the living room plus the bat in the entryway. The plague rat should have only 1 hp remaining after the two attacks from the blue dog and will die on its own in that fight. Nobody can get to the rats in the rathole this turn, so at the VERY earliest we can unlock the tomb at the end of turn 47.
If we are going to rush for this, it means everyone we want to use to fight HAS to be ready to fight at the end of turn 47, or if we want to delay a turn to lens, turn 48. This would mean double moving Lara this turn or the next, otherwise she will be too far away to enter the tomb on turn 48 and engage the knight. She has time to try the safe, but only if we don’t want her to drink a healing potion or alter her equipment in any fashion.
Presumably we want to lens the knight before we send in Mac/Ricki since they are most likely to die assuming we are leaving Lohk out of the fight. If we plan on lensing the knight, Ricki needs to get her equipment worked out THIS turn so she can buy a lens on turn 47 and move to the alcove above the tomb. We cannot send her to the master bedroom to a fight that will end without her intervention. We need to have her re-equiping herself this turn.
Macadamia needs to re-equip himself on turn 46 or turn 47 to be ready to fight. Assuming we want to lens first he could even wait till turn 48.
Assuming Lohk won’t participate, we have her kill the bat turn 46, then her and Daisy kill the rats turn 47, leaving her to grab the egg from the pet master turn 48. He may leave when the tomb is unlocked, in which case we’d lose the reward. There’s also the risk, since Lohk is holding the egg, that she’ll die and we’ll lose both her AND the chance to get a pet.
Critically, if we are rushing the knight like this with the goal of finishing things BEFORE turn 50, we only have turn 48 and 49 to engage the knight. If we want to lens before fighting, that’s only turn 49 with the full party, with the option to send Lara in to stall the knight the turn before. I don’t think it’s realistic to assume we can kill the knight in only two turns with a partial party. Assuming we fight the knight turn 48 with just Lara, we’re looking at 8-10 damage assuming she keeps her current equipment. The following turn, if we have Ricki and Mac join with a wooden stake each and all available rings, we’re looking at 21-23 damage. Assigning them each a grave flower would boost that to 24-26 That second total is 1 off from killing Sally in a single round so hopefully it’s enough to kill the knight.
Doing things this way means risking the egg by not collecting it before opening the tomb. It also means we won’t get to sell basically any of our loot, try for the safe, or unlock any chests in the basement. The only locked chest we’ve tried this dungeon held the bat hide armor that we like. Presumably the other chests also hold nice things. Obviously I value Lohk’s life over nice things, but I’m not incredibly confident we can even pull off killing the knight before turn 50. I also think it’s unrealistic to assume the ghostly attacks continue AFTER the tomb is open, since the whole point is that the knight attacks spiritually because it can’t reach us physically.
Second option
2) We plan to unlock the tomb before turn 50, and finish up every remaining task we can first while clearing out the last small skulls. This relies on the idea that the random ghost attacks will stop when the tomb is open, since the knight can now reach us physically. This should let us try the safe once more, and unlock a chest or two in the basement, plus selling as many items as we can. With Ricki in the basement lockpicking chests, we’ll have eyes on the skull door and can see when the last medium skull gets cleared. Doing things this way insures we can finish the last few critical items before opening the tomb, instead of haphazardly trying to both open the tomb and also work on loot. A plan relying on this would look something like
T46: Lara tries safe. Macadamia summons Paws, Ricki swaps equipment in the kitchen between her, Lohk, and the floor Lohk ends turn in entryway.
Inventory:
Ricki: Wooden stake, shield, bat hide armor. immaculate suit, ring of offense, ring of protection
Lohk: Cane, Wolf hide Armor, broken oxidicer, empty pet egg spot
with the intention of selling the suit to buy a lens and 2 lockpicks on T47. Ricki checks on skull door.
T47: If selling and buying is easy rather than costing an action per item or the like, Lara and Mac try to lasso the chest in the entryway, otherwise Lara drinks the healing potion in the kitchen and Mac helps with selling if necessary pending rules decisions to govern that. Ricki buys lens and lockpick, selling suit to fund this. Lohk and Daisy kill the bat.
T48: Lohk goes to grab egg. Free Lohk action if she got it already. Ricki lockpicks a chest in the basement. Mac leaves kitchen to break final dog skeleton in the rathole in basement. Lara helps with buying and selling if she drank the potion last turn, otherwise drink potion.
T49: Lohk kills the rats with daisy. Final skulls cleared from skull door. Ricki lockpicks another chest then gets into position above the tomb to lens the knight turn 50. Lara does her final inventory swap to get geared up, then enters the basement. Mac returns to the kitchen from the rat hole and does his final inventory swap. Final inventory for Mac and Lara below.
Lara: Great axe, plate armor, purse, owlbear cowlwear, lightning scroll, ring of offense, ring of protection
Macadamia: Leather armor, Helmet, magma shield, wooden stake, ring of offense
T50: Ricki lens, then retreat from alcove. Attack? retreat to bedroom? Send Lara in?
Macadamia: Enter the kitchen. Summon paws. Get info on how buying and selling works. Explain our terrible predicament re Lohk being near death and ask if Paws has any solutions. If you can do so, start selling equipment from the floor and your inventory. List at end of post.
Lohk: Drop your shield and ring of offense in the kitchen. Drop your coins into the purse as well. Pick up the broken oxidicer.
Ricki: Drop your rope in the entryway. Enter the kitchen and sell your immaculate suit and heavy pick to Paws. Buy two lockpicks and a magic lens using the proceeds from that sale. Drop your gold in the purse then head down to the basement to check on the skull door.
Lara: Enter the entryway and try 10-11-16 for the safe combination.
Items for Macadamia to sell: Longsword on him, from floor rusty chain, cigarettes, bucket, both cheap ales, and the leather armor.
Similar to my other plan, but this one acknowledges that killing the bats this turn doesn’t actually help if we want to clear the skulls from the tomb on turn 49. Lohk has a shield we might want to keep so all three of our characters can have a shield, so we want her to drop that this turn and take the broken oxidicer with her, since she likely won’t have a chance to pick up loot later.
Just have Lohk also drop the coins and pick up at least one of the flowers.
Can’t edit this anymore but LSN you should have Ricki put on the suit for Lara before she sells it!
If we have the opportunity to additionally buy a raw meat and a ball now/then, we might want to do it, just in case we get some time to use them. (We do not want Lohk to take part in the fight with the undead anyway, right? Would give her some free time to spend with the black dog, which seems not to be counted for the skull at the door, which I read as “not set as enemy”.) If we do not have time to use them, we just loose their limited monetary value (if we neither have the opportunity to give them do Daisy).
People, we don’t need to kill the dog to open the door, just the plague rat! The dog is doing our job for us!
