Dungeon 5 Turn 35
————
Ricki and the pickaxe-wielding kobold push the minecart from the entrance room to the hallway. While pushing it, Ricki takes a peek inside and sees that it’s basically empty, but there are many stone fragments inside that suggest it’s been used to move large rocks around. The fragments are mostly clustered to the right side of the cart, as if it had been tipped over to empty it. Ricki and Daisy then continue to the right after trading weapons and shields, and giving the second copper ring to Macadamia. The pickaxe kobold joins the kobold family in hanging out near the largest congregation of dungeoneers. Kamau heads down to explore the next room.
Having received a shield, leather armour, and ring of protection, and giving back his only weapon, Macadamia takes one of the three picks off the ground (after the spider knocks out the last miner) and smifs it to show Lara how the process works.
“See, if you use a weapon like this pick, you get a ring of aggression.”
“But ANY weapon makes the same type of ring?”
“That’s right.”
“What about stuff like hats or boots?”
“Sorry, I’m not a skilled enough ringsmif to make rings out of things like that. I can only use basic gear right now.”
“So if weapons make you stronger and armour makes you tougher, what kind of rings do shields make?”
“They make you harder to hit.”
“Interesting. Maybe you’re not completely useless after all, Mac!”
“Thank you…?”
Kamau finds another group of miners in the room below. They immediately spot him and become aggressive. Looks like there’s going to be more fighting down here.
Ricki moves into the room below Macadamia’s stall, then dismounts Daisy so they can squeeze through the narrow tunnel. It descends to another room below, where Ricki finds another group of enemies. Her Dungeon Eyes also allow her to see that there’s at least one more room below, however. Hopefully the exit isn’t much farther down.

RING OF AGGRESSION, COPPER
Ring
Atk +1.
Weight 1, Cost 20
Has this been brought up yet? But if a group member other than Ricki enters a new room shouldn’t it only reveal what that member can see and not the entire room?
There was a discussion waaay back about how far Ricki could “see” in the dungeon with Dungeon eyes.
It was generally seen that Ricki can see what her friends see, including traps they see and she can still make them aware of them (even in different rooms)
and her friends get hunches what they are supposed to do even if story-wise we only controll her and they are separate and they can act on what Ricki learns.
(quest ends when Ricki dies even if everyone else is still alive)
Story wise, the party member only acknowledges what they can see, but we can still see the whole room with Ricki’s ability.
No, party members work as relays for dungeon eyes.
They are all connected, that makes sense. Like how Kamau can sense damage taken by others.
Kamau: Interpose
Ricki: Move back through hole, left then down (riding Daisy). Attack Kobold1
Lara: Move down Attack Kobold2 with great sword.
Spider: Attack Kobold 3
Mac: Give ring of aggression to Lara. Push kart to the room on the right.
Daisy: Attack Kobold 1 with Ricki
Just noticed we don’t have a set of lockpicks anymore, so we’ll probably need to get that key… unless it leads to an optional area. If we do have to go for it it will be a challenge.
It might just open that trapdoor by the chest though.
I have Ricki helping clear the first fight then she can move past skellies onto ladder next turn. Skellies wont follow and she can trigger bats next turn (provided we pick up something to throw)
Also, it looks tempting to push the cart to the very end of the tunnel. That is probably where they are dumping rocks.
The spider might be able to crawl along the ceiling and get the keys. The Bats would have to be dealt with first, of course.
We do have a set of lockpicks.
While the top voted comment https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-5-turn-31/#comment-5092 told Kamau to grab a tool set, he did not do so. 🙁
Lockpicks are on Macadamia. We have them and Lara gave them to him two turns ago.
That explains it. I thought we grabbed a set just in case but didnt see it in Character inventory.
We can just ignore skelly room though. Not sure that one chest is worth the risk
At least Mac looks cool when he does his thing. Good for him.
Sheesh, that chest on the level below Kamau is well-protected. Two patches of glass and three pressure plates to trigger the trap. And we ditched our boots upstairs if I’m not mistaken, so the safer way to get to it is to go through the kobold and beetle people below, then up through the rat hole.
This probably won’t work, given LSN’s comments about dungeon madness and more fighting ahead, but I still feel like we ought to at least try talking to the kobolds if it doesn’t slow us down too much. We want to get away from the Guard, they want to get away from the Guard. If we could work together instead of fighting, we could all get away quicker.
We can possibly talk to the kobold not wielding a pickaxe and with the fly guy.
The buzzer is a monster. Giant flies are NPCs (check the enemy page to see the difference).
Traps spotted:
2 large areas of broken glass in Kamau’s room (second level)
one crossbow-rigged chest, triggered by THREE pressure plates (also second level; one left of the glass area, two in between) in Kamau’s room
Some weird spot on the floor (possibly also a pressure plate or maybe some trapdoor mechanism to dump you to the level below) between fly guy and chest in Ricki’s room.
New enemies:
Some kind of infernal kobold, big stag-beetle or such and I don’t remember that scorpion creature either (if it already was in any dungeon, we didn’t fight it).
Additional action:
Ricki: once you join up with the others, point out the traps (see above) to them.
I wonder if the holes below the traps will allow Ricki to slip in behind the traps to reach the chest.
I had a thought about the ring but Claudious already stated it.
Ricki: Up. Left. Trade spiked buckler for Lara’s shield. Take the ring of protection. Right. Down. Left past skeletons. Right past the buzzer. Don’t step on the weird bit of floor. Open the chest.
Daisy: Use your action for extra mov. Carry Ricki.
Kamau: Interpose
Macadamia: Make another ring of aggression out of a pickaxe. Pick up the last pickaxe. Go down.
Lara/Spider: Go down and beat on mad kobolds. One each.
Lara: Take Ricki’s spiked buckler for your shield.
Macadamia: Give rick your ring of protection.
Ricki’s the only one who can work in that hole, besides Macadamia. Maca is near dead and we’re not moving him from Kamau’s interpose of safety.
We dropped all our lockpicks, so we may need those keys, and we’re interested in the chest regardless. With lots of movement we can armor her to 8. Even if the buzzer uses its action to wake the bats and the bats attack Ricki, Ricki will live. Remorse isn’t a major concern at this point. Most everyone is following Kamau, and this *particular* room is the only one we’ll be spending much time on independent from him. A point of damage, or in a surprising worst case three will be okay.
Macadamia needs to use his last ringsmiffing before he leaves the dungeon. Now is a good time since he can’t contribute meaningfully to the first fight below. We’d rather have a ring of protection, but we don’t have spare armor, and we do have spare picks. So.
Lara and the spider can take a kobold each. I don’t think we want to have Kamau attack, because we don’t have armor for Lara. The kobolds could gang up on her, and are theoretically intelligent enough to choose to do so.
That is WAY more movement than Ricki has. She can move three screens or doorways mounted and spend an action to possibly move a 4th. You’ve got 4 moves and an action.
I was of the understanding that because she’s using Daisy’s movement, Daisy’s the one that has to spend an action to get a fourth mov. Even if I’m wrong, Ricki using her action for the fourth mov past the skeletons is okay, if not ideal.
Nvm
I appear to be wrong, TNIM appears to be right. This doesn’t work as stated.
The indentation before the chest in Ricki’s room is different from pressure plates as it’s into the floor, not on the floor. Reminds me of the weakened floor in the cell above Kamau’s (which at one point held a kobold…). I’ve a feeling we can break through.
At first I thought, that even if we can break through, then only Ricky and Daisy can use it, as its behind the rat hole. But actually the whole kobold family can use that shortcut as well, and only Lara and Kamau have to take the longer way through miners, red-kobold and scorpion.
I think we could ask pickaxe-kobold to bonk the floor at this thinner place.
Also! That indentation is not just thinner floor. It’s gray. This may be thinner floor covered with metal plate? I hope not, we don’t have Rusty here to chew on it.
Ricki: Go up, Go Left, give Macadamia your Oxidicer and Spiked Buckler and get the Ring of Defense and regular Shield, and pick up two Pickaxes. Go Right, use your Action to go back down through the small hole, and move straight through the Skeletons and end your turn on the ladder.
Kamau: Interpose vs. the Kobold Miners.
Lara: Take Macadamia’s ring of aggression and wear it. Head down to Kamau. Take out a
Kobold with your Greatsword. Non-lethally please.
Spider: Take out another Kobold with your Bite. Non-lethally please.
Macadamia: Follow Lara. Smiff the Spiked Buckler into the last Copper Ring.
Ricki’s actions are to get her to 8 Defense with 2 Pickaxes. One to throw at the Key Ring and the other pickaxe to chip away at the floor in front of the Chest. We could potentially talk to the Buzzer, but I don’t think there’s been anything to indicate he’s a friendly NPC yet. I’m not totally locked into Macadamia smiffing the Spiked Buckler, but I had no other interesting Action for him to take other than break the Oxidicer.
We have three pickaxes available. Why not smif a pickaxe instead? Alternatively, attack a kobold with Mac using oxificer and the ring of aggression?
Kamau: Interpose
Ricki: Rush back to Kamau. Get Rang Fang from Lara (to use asprojectile to get key ring to ground). Grab rings from everyone and equip them (+1 attack, +1 Def). Attack one of Kobolds. Inform everyone about broken glass (x2) and Trap Chest.
Daisy: be Ricki mount and help fighting Kobolds
Lara+Spider: go down and attack Kobolds
Macadamia: go down and attack Kobolds
The goal is to wipe out x3 Kobolds, having Enemies with 3 Pix-axes is to risky for movement.
Rings for Ricki so next turn she can go back to Fly-Guy and fight/talk him after passing Skeletons (1 attack is, less than Ricki defence).
You are massively overkoing the kobolds. 5 dmg takes them out. You’re swinging with at least 20.
I want Ricki with best equipment avaible for Buzzer fight. I don’t trust the bats.
other than her it’s to risky to send anyone to any of next combats. Moving as a group it is.
Amendment for Ricki: Scream and stomp the floor while leaving the room she’s in to try to wake up the bats.
I don’t think it will work, but we might as well try.
