Dungeon 5 Turn 34
————
Lara arms Macadamia with the oxidicer, while also making him carry her copper ring and thieves’ tools. Together the two of them knock out one of the miners, while the spider knocks out another. Kamau keeps the remaining one busy with the spiked buckler and the ring of protection he got back from Macadamia. He takes no damage from the three attacks made against him.
“If we knock them all out like this, the Guard isn’t likely to try to finish them off. They’ll still probably end up in jail, depending on what exactly they’re doing here, but at least they’ll live.”
“We don’t really know WHAT they’re doing. They paid us to cover for them by living in the apartment up above, but that’s all we really know.”
“Hmm. I don’t have any idea, either. I’ve never seen kobolds set up something like this before. Though, in retrospect, I have to wonder how many I’ve missed.”
While Kamau talks to the kobold family, Lara grills Macadamia on his ringsmiffing abilities.
“Hey Mac, I can’t help but notice you only handed over ONE ring.”
“Well… I only had one with me.”
“Oh no, I think that last miner might sneak past Kamau and get you…”
“B-b-but I can make more! I can still make two today! I just didn’t have any materials!”
“To make a magic ring, I need a copper ring and an active ingredient, like a weapon, shield, or armour. That ring I gave to the human was made from armour.”
“You couldn’t have told us that while we were running through the area with all the extra stuff lying on the ground?”
“I’M SORRY!!”
Ricki burns a rat tail and orders Daisy to attack alongside her, allowing her to easily take out the lone miner near the entrance. He drops a pick.
“So how come YOU’RE not attacking us, too?”
“I’m not sure why these guys ARE attacking. Wouldn’t it be smarter to run instead of wasting time fighting?”
“Maybe they’ve been down here too long.”
“Maybe. I DID run out for food and supplies now and then, but I think a lot of these guys stay down here for weeks at a time.”
“Well, I guess now I know what dungeon madness looks like in kobolds. Kinda wish I didn’t. The look in this guy’s eyes was scary…”

PICK
Weapon
Atk +1, 20% chance to deal +2 damage.
Weight 1, Cost 7
Oh good. Confirmation that knocking them out won’t get them killed by guards. We should explore the hole and the screens down to get some Intel.
Mac, you moron! Are you trying to be as unhelpful as possible?! *sigh*
We should ask Macadamia about what kind of ring could be made with each item we have before we have him make any rings. It may be just item type or item quality may matter too.
I’m surprised that the potion of shield didn’t come up. It’s so nice and symmetric – a copper ring costs 5, a potion of shield costs 15 and is blue, a copper ring of protection costs 20 and has a blue setting.
He did say “like” a weapon, shield, or armour, but if we know one thing about Macadamia it’s that he provides more honest information than he should, at least when not in the process of being arrested. It does sound like we can’t convert consumables into rings, which is good because that means we can just use them.
Also we can ask him what item he used to create the ring of protection.
Ricki: ride on towards the hole
Lara and Spider: take out the remaining kobold, then move.
Kamau and Mac: leave the room down, Kamau interpose to protect Mac
This may kill Mac as it leaves him unarmored in a room with a hostile without kamau interposing.
Ricki:
Action: Check out the mine cart. Is there anything in it that would stop you from pushing it to the right as part of a standard move and action? If no, push it one screen to the right with Daisy. Get the friendly pickaxe kobold to help you move the minecart if he can.
Move 1: Consumed as part of above action if possible, otherwise just a simple “Ride Daisy right one screen”
Inventory: Give Kamau your shield for his spiked buckler. Give Lara your Rat Fang and Rat Tails. Take the Oxidizer from Macadamia, give him your copper ring and then equip the Oxidizer and the Spiked Buckler.
Move 2: Ride Daisy one more screen right to be under the old ringsmif shop.
Inventory: Checkout the pick on this screen. Is it just a regular pick? Don’t make me write out having Ricki drop/pickup stuff to pick up/drop the pick to get stats.
Move 3: Enter the rat hole on Daisy.
Daisy:
Action: Be the bestest girl.
Kamau:
Inventory: Do exchange with Ricki above, then give Macadamia your extra shield and the ring of protection. Equip your remaining regular shield.
Move: Down the ladder
Lara:
Inventory: Do the exchange with Ricki above. Also give Macadamia your leather armor.
Action: Talk to Macadamia some more about smiffing. Can he use anything other than a weapon, armor, or shield to smif? What about accessories, magic items like “divine” boons, potions or crowstones? Have him demonstrate smiffing with one of the picks from the ground and one of the copper rings we’ve given him.
Spider:
Action: Nonlethally attack the last Miner Kobold.
Macadamia:
Inventory: Do the exchange with Ricki. Get the shield and ring of protection from Kamau and equip them. Get the Leather Armor from Lara and equip that. If you have extra space, pick up all of the unguarded picks from the ground you can.
Action: Smif one of the copper rings you have using one of the picks you just got from the floor. And answer any of Lara’s questions that you can.
It sounds like we get to smif two rings a day/dungeon. There are more picks than we can likely carry out, and the guaranteed way to get more info on smiffing is to start trying to smif. The other actions get the minecart closer to us in case there’s a good use for it (like pushing it off the cliff on the far right to get to another location or land it on a critter), KO the last miner, and get us visibility of what’s below the ladder and through the rat hole.
We should plan to explore hole with Ricki next turn. I’d also like to see us smif the spikes bucket as it is an attack and def item
Actually, maybe even three. Rings are restricted items, and Mac was told to notify the Guard when he has any. Most probably Mac called the guards today, so what he said probalby means that he made one ring with his armour today, and he can do two more. Just guessing though. Even two per day would be great.
I find it unlikely that we’d be able to just push the cart as a weapon, but dropping it off the cliff sounds great… Assuming we can get it past all the piles of rock, but that doesn’t look like an issue as characters are standing in front of the piles.
As for frequency, I think smiffing needs to take place in a dungeon (even beyond how we generally don’t influence Intermission actions). Macadamia mentioned needing to report to the Guard after setting up in a dungeon, and he definitely doesn’t seem the sort to go into danger if he can help it. If Macadamia could have set up shop in one of the many regular apartments, he probably would have.
Of course, he’s also new at this, and dungeons probably have very low rent as measured in gold. You just have to pay the iron price, in fighting and/or blood.
What about using Oxidicer instead. It is quite strange, if we use it it will become broken and then goes off. So I don’t think it is wise to use it directly.
It also has 2 Atk.
If we test smiffing with it we will know:
1) If a ring receives 2 Atk or only 1 Atk.
2) if a ring receives all abilities/powers of an item
Also if a ring receives “30% chance to deal +3 damage and become a Broken Oxidicer” I think we will be able to use any extra weapon (which can’t be taken as a loot) to have that chance to make +3Atk (but broke that extra weapon), so that will be a really powerful/useful ring.
Please, consider this option.
We don’t know what the broken oxidizer does, and I’m unwilling to try smiffing it until we know what the broken oxidizer does and we also know more about smiffing to indicate whether it’d be any more useful than simply smiffing a longsword.
Do you mind adding something about necessity to stop mine cart so it won’t make harm to kobold kids?
Kamau’s probably the best one to stop the cart, and I think he can guarantee stopping it easily with one hand, or interpose instead.
LSN has stated that he always gives us the benefit of the doubt. So I think he’d assume we don’t want to harm the kids by accident (heck, he stated he wouldn’t let us attack them even if it was the most voted)
The miner will most likely attack Macadamia without Interpose, or maybe the spider attacking him. Miscounted, this does leave one Shield per character, so Lara is at 3 Def and we’d need a crit and weird target selection to take Remorse here.
As Kamau’s action, perhaps he can ask more questions?
I think it’s official, we’ve recruited Anti-Peanut.
May he never meet Peanut, or they’ll cause an explosion.
Alas, the helmets are costume and not equipment.
