Dungeon 5 Turn 4
————
Kamau attempt to move the orange puzzle chest, but finds that it is rooted firmly in place. He already knew, of course, that chests are virtually impossible to move before they’ve been looted, but he just had to test it out.
“One more question, kid. Did the guy who stole your doll look like that big guy messing around with that chest?”
“Mmm… No, he looked more like a bad guy.”
“Got it.”
Ricki and her party all move upstairs together.
The room above features yet another clear and safe hallway, but Ricki can also see a lot of hostile-looking creatures on the upper floors. It seems she and her friends have finally stumbled into gang territory.
Hm. These guys here definitely look more bad than Kamau.
That dog in the locked cage looks different. A bit darker. No specks. And sad. Lying on the floor, not standing. A potential pet to be freed, fed, and do whatever you do with a dog to follow you? I hope so.
Also, a spider, but no webs to be seen. Hmm.
Also, I think we 100% know what’s leftwards. Do we need to go there?(edit: I messed up the depth, of course we DONT know what’s left)Definitely read the sign. And definitely take a peek left. Someone check the chest one level up. It’s open, and probably untrapped and unguarded.
We need to see rooms before we can dash through them. Having Ricki check it out now means that we can freely manuever through it (which may allow, for instance, Ricki to dash to a NEW room after we clear whatever we want to do in this one).
Feels to me like the spider will attack someone who tries to get at the chest.
There’s no Line of Sight, and no webs. How would it know?
You are both thinking of different chests. The one immediately up is behind a grey wall. The other at the top the spider is just above
First: Dog and gangster with greatsword. That caged dog may be a pet, which will make the rest of the dungeon go faster.
Kamau: Interpose.
Lara: Take out one of his stray dogs.
Ricki: (edit) Attack the other dog.
Pet rules, for reference:
In addition to recruiting other characters, each character can have one pet assigned to them. Pets aren’t as strong as characters but can still be beneficial. They can make their own attacks alongside their owners, but they can also be killed by damage, so take care of them. Pets are only vulnerable to enemy attacks if the pet makes an attack of their own, so it’s possible to have a pet abstain from fighting in order to protect it.
Most pets are limited in that they cannot carry or use items and they can only follow their owner; they can’t enter a different room on their own. Therefore, although pets have their own HP, Atk, and Def ratings, they usually don’t have a Mov or Enc attribute. If they do, however, that pet is an exception to this rule.
Like characters, some pets can be improved by performing certain actions. This is unique for every pet, so check their pet sheets and pay attention to how they act in the dungeon.
Some characters have the ability to summon a pet. As each character can only have one pet with them at a time, these abilities don’t work if the character already has a pet with them, and the character can’t enter a dungeon with a different pet if their ability already grants them one.
Dog should probably go on Kamau: we expect dogs to be kinda weak defense wise, and so will mostly see combat when he’s interposing.
Great sword guy has plate armor, I’d be worried about fighting him
The thug by cage has chain. Which is 3def at least. We need to cordinate attack
Chain, gah, you’re right. Editing.
Per Marth’s recorded stats, (https://gist.github.com/KingMarth/2c55735080b5b7a39b1514154a2cb177), it should take four damage to one-shot a stray dog. Lara can do that with her longsword, Ricki can’t, so she stabs the other guy.
Dogs probably have 2 Atk, and gangs will have 1-2 base + 3 for rusty greatsword, so Kamau interposes. Gangster is quite possible smart enough to attack someone who isn’t wearing plate armor, so he interposes.
As was pointed out to be, Ricki attacking the guy in chain is a waste. Ignore that bit of this comment.
I’d first check the chest and scout a little bit more. It may happen that we need full health and most of the oopmh in the next room, which we certainly must pass through.
That’s most certainly a suicide. These guys are sentient so they will alert each other when attacked. As a result, we will have to fight ALL of the enemies in this room at once if we engage. We better leave them for now.
Remember that dungeon sickness makes people do weird things like stand next to chests and not alert allies
Kamau: Read the sign then head up to the group of two dogs and the blue cap and interpose.
Lara: Attack one of the dogs in the same group.
Ricki: Explore the room to the left.
If reading the sign is an action, have Ricki do that before moving left instead of Kamau
Lets have someone read the sign. It appears that the dog is a different color and therefore can maybe be a pet? I vote that we have Ricki check out the next room by going down the hallway on the left, and Kamau and Lara can start attacking the group of dogs and the yellow goblinoid. Kamau interpose, Lara attack a spotted dog with the longsword.
Kamau interpose on dogs by cage
Ricki and Lara: attack a dog each
Thug by cage has chain I think so we need to have Ricki and Lara attack together.
Alright, since tehre’s a lot of comments that just want to attack the guy, I’ll write it here, just to write it once somewhere, I picked at random, so don’t feel like I’m picking on you or something 🙂
How about we read the sign FIRST and then maybe attack?
Maybe that’s kennels and a dog trainer and maybe we can just buy that dog?
Just thinking.. I dont like attacking just on sight because their faces frown, etc.
Ricki et al read the sign and move to the left.
Right now we’re in fact finding set up. I think the chest is blocked off by the metal
Metal? As in: Food for rust monster? How do we move the hungry rust monster to the tasty metal wall?
Ricki: Head left to check the next room. Then head back right to meet with your friends.
Everyone: Head up the ladder to engage with the yellow blue-cap with the greatsword. Kamau interposing, Lara attacking the blue-cap with her Longsword and Ricki attacking the same with her Rat Fang.
I think Ricki can’t do that. 🙁
“No matter how many rooms a character can normally move through, they can’t move any further if they enter an unexplored room.”
I was thinking “further” as in “into the room” instead of “at all”. But on second read your interpretation makes more sense. Thanks.
I guess I don’t know. That’d be a perfectly reasonable interpretation. Might be the rule is mostly to prevent us from stacking twenty lines of conditionals for a room we haven’t seen
I’d rather deal with the dogs before the well armed guy. If his rusty greatsword breaks in the next couple turns, Kamau can switch to helping attack him–it’s rather unlikely he has the 5 base Atk it’d take to hurt Lara without a weapon
