Intermission 7 Page 1
————
After emerging from the dungeon into the middle of a field, Ricki and her friends make their way back to the road where Paws waits for them.
“Let’s see here… this is a pretty good haul you’ve brought back. This should make it easy to start your own grow op.”
“Can we please not refer to our vegetable garden as a grow op?”
“It’s more fun if we call it a grow op.”
*sigh*
After removing seeds from the vegetables and taking the viable food that’s left over, Ricki ends up with 46 coins to take home and use for whatever she thinks is most important. She has enough seeds to make a pretty decent garden, which will bring in more money over time. She also has enough eggs to start a chicken coop! She can decide once she gets back home exactly what she wants to spend her gold on.
But suddenly, the ground begins to tremble…
The mammoth has escaped from the dungeon! He trumpets and grabs the nearest farmer around the waist, lifting him high into the air while rearing back on his hind legs!!
“You guys managed to get our bull calmed down?!”
“Thank you!”
“It would’ve cost a fortune replace this big guy, and all our calves are still years too young for the job!”
“You really helped us out!”
In gratitude, several farmers in the area manage to put together a reward of 10 more gold coins. It seems this mammoth is useful not only for his wool, but also for helping with construction and other manual labour. Furthermore, the farmers pledge that if Ricki has the proper space to keep one, they’ll bring one of the calves over later. Even the small ones can be helpful to have around!
Good job everyone! Yay us!
Massive sigh of relief here!
WE DID THE RIGHT THING!
mutter mutter frost resistance armor mutter mutter
A rare instance of everyone is happy
….well if you don’t count kamau freaking out. XD
we did good on this one.
Sweeeet, we can get our own mammoth!
And sounds like the +5 frost resistance armor might not be lost forever since having a mammoth around provides labor and wool.
I sure wish the farmer made clearer that this was a side-quest (instead just a warning of potentially dangerous content in the dungeon), but to be fair, I think LSN made it up just now since even King Marth’s stream highlights says the contrary.
The comment from stream may have been that there was no Immediate reward (like a loot drop).
But I think it is as you say, that LSN made this something in reaction to our choices.
It’s a good reminder that not everything is set in stone in terms of choices and rewards. We can play however we want and LSN will make sure we have fun.
I don’t think that was changed. I was worried sick that we’d have had to nudge him out and were unable to because of those rats. I agree with Lsn that decreeing rewards are unnecessary – the act itself should be its own reward (yes, my power fantasy is being able to meaningfully help others)
Plus it’s not like there are no strings attached to this reward:
I think we can expect “Mammoth Pen” to show up on the list of manor renovations in the near future (and if so I will totally vote for it).
For posterity, our inventory at the end of the Farm before cashing out food and this bonus reward:

Hurray! This is totally a good turn out besides poor Kamui
I had missed the joke that mammoths were actual livestock around here. I was under the impression that Manny was a bovine bull which had been transformed into a mammoth by a dungeon magic pun on how the unqualified term “bull” can be applied to many other male animals.
Intermission can be stranger than dungeons.
(Incidentally, one of the many hard conditions for domestication is that you need a fast breeding cycle. Elephants haven’t been domesticated even with modern technology since it takes over a decade for an elephant to mature plus two years of pregnancy, and that’s when attempts at selective breeding work in captivity without the complicated social structure. The farmers are right to be relieved.)
