Intermission 3 Page 3

With their reward in hand, the group makes their way back through Goblintown towards Lohk’s alley. They have plenty of time to get there before she wakes up at sunset, so she’ll be none the wiser about this little escapade.
Except, possibly, for the fact that Ricki is bringing home a stranger she just met for the second night in a row, but Ricki’s sure she can come up with a good cover story.
But before they get there, they run into a familiar face.
“Well, well. You’re turning into a regular dungeoneer, aren’t you?”
“Paws! How do you know where we just were?”
“Word travels fast, but not as fast as me, kid.”
Good to see ya, Paws!!!
And gods, Goblintown really is a sad place to live in.
Kamau, get away from the smoke! Don’t survive the dungeon just to choke to deafh. (Will we learn the negative effects of addiction?)
Lara knows I was joking about spreading the Addicted Ability, right? 😛
Oh, think I forgot to mention from my stream notes, but it also came up that Paws will be stocking Holy Water. I wonder if options will leave his stock as well.
His last shop appearance was Intermission 2 page 7, if people want to remind themselves of what was available before.
Based on that list, my suggestion is to cash in the tarnished sun sphere and the arrows to go up to 24 gold, and spend 23 on Chain Armour. We’ve already seen that rusty chain armour is +3 defense for 3 weight, so getting a version of that where we don’t need to keep wondering if it will break this time would be nice. It’d also be just light enough that we could stick Ricki in the tin can when exploring rat tunnels, while still having room for a sword and some thieves tools or a buckler.
It’d be nice to get Plate Armour which is probably +4 defense for 4 weight at cost 30, but we’d need to sell leather armour (and probably thieves tools), and it’s nerve-wracking to have unarmored party members around Kamau, even though that’s fine if he’s using Intercede. If we get plate armour later, then note that Lara has the inventory space to wear heavy armour without trouble. Of course, if everyone already has armour then any armour we find in the dungeon is just loot. (Not that bad though, given every time we get armour it is what lets us do the rest of the dungeon…)
If we want more stuff, I’d sell one leather armour and a set of thieves tools for 9 gold. With the 1 gold left over, we could get two copper rings as recommended for the Warrens. Rings don’t take up inventory space while worn, which is nice no matter what they do (guessing +1 Def vs electric). We could also sell the boots to bring us up to 12 gold and get a greatsword, which Lara would definitely be able to use even if Kamau isn’t able to apply his Greatsword Proficiency. That would also allow Plate Armour plus a copper ring.
I think going into the next dungeon with two sets of thieves tools (including Always Prepared) should be plenty, that’s all we used last time and we found another spare set. I’m not super attached to the throwing dagger though, Lara’s Venomous Sting I is a free 2-damage ranged attack and the Dawn Mitre also doesn’t need to be picked up. Having the dagger for Kamau to throw would let us attack for 5 at range. Alternatively, selling the throwing dagger and thieves tools could get us another longsword while keeping everyone armoured.
VenomousSting + DawnMitre = 3 dmg per round, at range, repeatable, for 1 inventory slot for the Mitre. Dagger adds 2, and total of 5 ranged damage sounds really huge, but then, it’s just one shot, and at least Kamau would need to go melee then.
I think we should sell the dagger and use the monies instead.
If we ever need to go fully ranged (toxic/etc immobile enemy, enemy standing behind a chasm, etc) and if 3 dmg is too little, I think we can try throwing random trash at them. We actually have not tried yet, but I think throwing stones/bricks/emptybottles/planks/barrels/etc could do occasional 1 dmg when other attacks tie or exceed the def.
Also it’s “Warrens” and thieves and other such live there, I think we’ll see relatively large number of spare daggers to throw.
omg.. considering how Kamau reacted, Lohk seeing Lara may do a memorable face 😀
also, “before she wakes up at sunset” just reminded me that we in fact ALWAYS have a hard deadline for each dungeon 🙂
anyone notice that fly there? these were said to be NPC. are they following us?
I believe LSN is rightfully rubbing it in our face.
Come to think of it, there was a fly silhouette in town on Intermission 2 page 9. Could’ve taken that as a hint.
Wow. You’re right. I saw it back then, and well, I took it for a normal fly. But then, by comparison, that would be a HUGE fly.
Also, interestingly, on that 2-9 we also see the peanut-ish guy that we see here on the left on first panel. The same place and the same inhabitants? Probably.
Oh hi Peanut
PBT.
Lara has no cigarettes in her inventory, but keeps getting new ones in her hand – did LSN forget to list her ability “Summon Cigarette”?!
Paws, can we get frequent buyer discount?!
Look, we’re still alive! we’re totally an established returning loyal customer 😀
