Intermission 17 Page 14
————

Our mission here is to reach the highest floor of the tower. We will need to reunite there in order to carry out our goal. Other than the magical detection in place, triggered by specific words or phrases, there is another reason that I have not been able to explain this ahead of time.

Have you noticed the frequency with which you have found yourself inside the walls of a dungeon, even when it was not your intention to do so? Have you ever felt that any place you intend to visit at any time in the future inevitably ends up having turned by the time you arrive?
What if I told you that this was no mere coincidence? There is a great power at work to create these “random” coincidences. One with which you are unknowingly quite familiar.

You see, Ricki, I am in fact aware of the ability that you have attempted to conceal from most of the rest of your group.
(Poorly, it must be said. After we are finished here I would like to discuss the subject of operational security at length, but that will have to wait for now.)
I know that you can see the layout of the dungeon surrounding you. I know that you can accurately gauge the power of those who would enter such spaces as your ally. I know, also, that this ability is hereditary, passed down within your clan for generations uncountable. It is as power that even the Emperor fears.
I know that you call this ability Dungeon Eyes, but that is incorrect. That name is a corruption, whether accidental or deliberate I am unsure. But what I do know, is that the true name of your incredible power…

…is Dungeonize.

Dun, dun, duuuuuuuun
…-geonize
*Chapeau*
Am, thinking during this whole time with Ricki:
*There’s no space. Why do you keep putting the space? THERE’S NO SPACE!*
I8P46 has Kamau’s reveal:
“But anyone ranked Elite or higher knows what it’s really about:”
“Killing the goblin with Dungeon Eyes.”
It’s ambiguous if the guard’s version of the story has also corrupted the name to downplay the implications of the power, or if Ricki just hears the word as her self-proclaimed interpretation and Kamau knew all along and assumed Ricki did as well.
D2P16 shows Lohk also knew about Dungeon Eyes, though again it’s unclear if Lohk encouraged that reading and/or knew the original.
Still, for Dungeonize to act on a meta level by creating dungeons to explore, that has a lot of space for self-fulfilling prophecy. Changing the setting to be hostile towards goblins is what encouraged Ricki to dungeon delve for loot since the reward was worth the risk, but if the world had been more permissive then she might have tried anyway with how her powers mitigate risk and how there could’ve been much more access to allies and equipment. The final boss of the world has a strong incentive to make it hard for a protagonist to survive long enough to reach the end. Fate (the Dungeon Master) may ensure that a survivable sequence of challenges will exist, but fate doesn’t promise that you can reach the end.
omg huge lore drop 0_0
Um, did somebody turn the light in?
Hold up you’re right lol
