Dungeon 9 Turn 9
————
Kamau gets back in the ghast’s face while everyone else meets back up to attack it. With its armour already gone, it falls quickly to the party’s combined power. Lara picks up the greataxe, as she has the most free space and is the most accustomed to wielding one.
Ricki: go back to the other helmet
Kamau: Block the arrows
Plan A (Find out what Coxxy doesn’t want us to see/mess with asap):
Everyone: go up one room, ignoring all enemies here (Ricki was able to get past the two zombies okay twice by now, so that should be fine).
Ricki: point out the pressure plate near the ladder to everyone.
Everyone: avoid the pressure plate while going up (within the room).
Kamau: interpose against the 5 ghouls.
Everyone but Kamau: make your way past the 5 ghouls to the screen to the right.
I think considering that we got two timers on Kamau (infection and remorse) this time and a timer on everyone (infection) that we know of (yes, I found the comment when Botanya smashed the urns also quite suspicious), it might be a good idea to get eyes on everything in this dungeon as quickly as possible. Maybe recruit Coxxy soon and then not only have the table turned quite a lot in our favour but also be able to abandon it, if it becomes too risky.
EDIT: clarified one movement.
I don’t see the appeal of using the whole turns action to double move, given that we don’t know if we can even use the full party in the next room *and* which will be trapped there until we can take care of the ghouls somehow.
Then there is the danger of 5 ghouls stunlocking Kamau, if that happens freeing him might cause remorse and we potentially loose him with this turn.
I wanted to get everyone out of the reach of the ghouls, so if Kamau got paralyzed, the couldn’t attack the rest of the party next turn. But I overlooked that behind the zombie just a level below was ALSO a passage to the room to the right. Taking mainly that into account, your plan is probably the better option.
However, I am assuming that whatever will allow us to recruit/appease Coxxy will need more than just a single character (most likely the whole party strength) to gain/deal with/activate/… But we’ll hopefully find out soon. 🙂
Plan B (Find out about the zombie spawning mechanic asap):
Ricki: give Botanya the new helmet and your purse. go left and up
Botanya: accept helmet, and equip it. put coins in purse. go left
Lara: move left twice, avoid the plague rats for now, drop cigarettes in the room with the lever, next to the arrow sticking out of the eye of the skeleton on the ground floor (so she doesn’t smoke them spontaneaously).
Kamau: move up, check out the room for anything different, then move down again and do the same there.
While we don’t get a whole lot done, we will have eyes on every room we know of so far this way, so we will get maximum information about the mechanic that every 10 turns something with zombies happens, that was announced at the start of the dungeon.
I know, it is basically wasting a turn (with some inventory optimization), but it might be worth it, because in a tomb, I would honestly expect the zombies to come from within not saunter in from the outside.
Plan: open access & scout next room by taking out armored zombie
Ricki: investigate the unattended tomb, loot things from it if possible
Everyone: move one room up, avoid the trapdoor pointed out by ricki, engage the lone armored zombie
Kamau + Flytrap: Attack the zombie (with your hilt)
Lara + mushroom: attack the zombie
Botanya: stand close for aroma and distract zombie with pipes. Loot anything the zombie drops and store it with golly if needed.
Ricki: finally use your last point of move to go one room right
— Reasoning / Explanation —
I think it’s important to get eyes on the next room(s) as soon as possible and our options for that are either the 5 ghouls or the armored zombie. I think the zombie is the better option since we should be able to take it out without too much danger while making the free for both ways, also loot. Ricki is checking the tomb since she’s the only one with enough move to reach the next room and as such can’t be involved in combat (and afaik her mushroom can’t join the fight if she doesn’t).
Combat math:
We have
Kamau – 9Atk
Lara – 10Atk (7+2vsUndead+1Nighteyes)
Mushroom: 2
Flytrap: 50% of 5
We need:
Armor+Helm+Shield: 7
Greaves+Boots: ~0-2
Hp+Def: ~8 (according to enemies doc)
Zombification: ?
This means we should have a pretty secure kill with 21 assured damage.
Ghouls have low Atk, so unless zombification (or greaves + boots) adds a lot *and* both zombie and coccyx target the same character we should be safe from remorse. With everyone as a potential target for the zombie we hopefully spread infection around.
Zombie can attack the mushroom, kill it, and deal damage to Botanya via spore cloud.
Also, coccyz can attack the party and cause remorse.
True there’s a chance of zombie attacking the mushroom. Normal ghoul likely would’nt kill it, zombie one might if it has more Atk. Can’t edit anymore, but we could make a new version and leave out the mushroom – should still be enough damage.
Coccyx so far hasn’t really been out to kill us (I.e. he didn’t target whoever got attacked already), so I see no reason to assume he would now and the random chance both he & the zombie at to attack someone with low enough def is pretty low.
Chance that tomb will spawn a new enemy. Which could cause some extra problems.
Also, we do not know if botania can avoid traps she can’t see in the dark.
Iirc Kamau could avoid pointed out traps without light in the taven, so Botanya should also have no issues here (and we don’t have any light sources anyway).
The potential zombie spawn at the tomb is possible I guess.
Ricki can’t leave the room after fighting.
Plan to go forward:
Everyone: go up to the next room.
Ricki: point out the trap to the right as you enter the room, so everyone can avoid it. Attack the armored zombie with stake, alongside your pet.
Kamau: avoid the trap ricki pointed out and interpose against the armored zombie while your flytrap attacks it.
Botanya: you and Golly avoid the trap ricki pointed out and get close to armored zombie, reducing its atk. Also play the pipes, aiming at it. Mulch it, too, if possible (don’t know if it’s an action, please clarify that). Scoop up zombie’s items, putting on the armor, and the rest in Golly’s storage.
Lara: avoid the trap ricki pointed out and attack armored zombie with corn spear, alongside your pet.
Sadly, Kamau’s remorse timer is way more advanced than his zombification timer. This should one-hit KO the armored zombie without granting remorse. Which should grant Botanya enough armor to tank zombies from here on out, even while coccyx is in play.
The only thing we can’t plan for is the newly spawning zombies. We don’t have any idea where they’ll start at. If they join the fray we are potentially doomed.
In case that wasn’t clear, have Ricki avoid the trap as well.
Everyone should avoid it, also the pets 😀
Looks good
Maybe. We could leave her at the start of the room. You could copy paste a variation – she can still pipe from the back of the room but not mulch… But eventually she will have to go forward
Somehow I doubt that a zombie counts as a “living thing”, so I’m assuming mulch won’t work on it.
Huh. I could swear it said organic, before.
Organic is Cordy.
But we’ll see if it works
Much like abilities that reference “Kill” still work when we KO intelligent enemies like the bandits, it’s likely that “when a living enemy creature dies” likely means that any active mob that gets killed/ko’d will work for Mulch.
Besides.
Living is opposite of Dead.
Un-Dead is therefore Living, and Un-un-Dead is just Dead.
I would argue: unliving is opposite of living and undead is opposite of dead.
I would categorize something as unliving if it was a construct of some kind
Plan to play it safe:
Everyone: dash back two screens left to the plague rats’ room so we fight the rats next turn.
We don’t know where the zombies will come from. If the source is immediately to the right of the newest screen, and the roamers join the combat with the armored zombie, then we are doomed.
Roamer enemies have always always damaged us in the past. And we can’t afford this.
