Dungeon 9 Turn 54
————
The party wastes no more time and charges into battle against the necromancer. The giant skeleton intercepts their attempts to finish him off quickly, taking massive damage from Ricki and Lara’s elemental weapons, but not succumbing to them just yet. The giant hits hard, but not hard enough that Kamau can’t deflect it.
The necromancer raises his arms, his rasping voice echoing down the halls of the tomb.
“Minions, to me! There are breathers among us!”
“We must teach them the way of the world!”
“THAT DEATH IS THE ONE UNIVERSAL TRUTH THAT AWAITS US ALL!!”
Botanya startles the necromancer before he can attack anyone. In fact, she startles him so badly that a skeleton pops out. How embarrassing.
Poot
Where have we heard that before?
Anyways, I must say I laughed so hard I couldn’t stop for a while! Bravo, LSN, bravo!
It’s a good thing that Botanya was able to pipe the Necromancer (also because it’s hilarious) but not knowing how much damage his attacks do now that he got buffed is making me a bit antsy. Hopefully he doesn’t get lucky and summon another skeleton next round. Can the mushrooms take care of the normal skeleton by themselves? It’s too bad they didn’t fight this round or we might have been able to kill the big guy in one go.
Judging by his dialogue and the narration about his voice echoing through the halls, I expect that some of the monsters we left alive are going to try and come in as reinforcements, possibly.
In hindsight, killing off the other zombies throughout the tomb may have been a good idea. Our new “friend” was attempting to summon them.
We have five ghouls, two ghasts and a zombie inbound, still.
Hey if the ghasts are on our way as we leave, can we please please take two actions and two mov to get the puzzle chest on the way back? 🙂
Eight ghouls, two ghasts, and a zombie owlbear actually. And Coccyx? And hopefully not a dozen wraiths from all the unbroken pots…
That last panel is hilarious.
Lara: Switch to poison robe and attack Big skeleton.
Both Mushrooms: Also attack big skeleton
Kamau: Interpose
Botanta: Pipes on Necromancer again.
Ricki: Run up to the screen above, avoiding traps, so we can see ifnthe ghouls have moved closer at the Necromancer’s command. Regardless of what you see, come back down, avoiding traps again, and attack the skeleton that was summoned.
This should clear everything out, let us know if teinforcements are coming, and set us up to kill the Necro if he doesnt manage to summon another Skeleton this turn.
Also, counter attack exists. Maaaaaybe.
Hope Coccyx doesn’t kill himself again by jumping off a ledge.
Oh he might
But if he DOES, he’ll revive where we can get to him?
Unlikely; he seems to revive when the Necromancer summons more zombies if his last revival is any indication. We’re probably going to kill him before Turn 60 the way things are going, especially since he might be summoning reinforcements.
The question is: Who are the necromancer’s minions? Either they’re (A) all the undead in the tomb, or (B) just the zombies and skeletons.
Possible timeline A:
T55: We kill bone golem & skeleton but can’t kill necro.
T56: Five ghouls arrive so we still can’t kill the necro.
T57: Three armed ghouls & zombie owlbear arrive.
T58: Are we dead yet?
T59: Two armed ghasts arrive to complete the dogpile.
Possible timeline B:
T55: We kill bone golem & skeleton.
T56: We kill necro & maybe another skeleton if he summoned another.
T57: Zombie owlbear arrives and we kill it.
I really hope we’re in world B.
One other observation:
This plus the wraith head make me think the giant skeleton has some degree of immunity to physical damage, so only Ricki and Lara can kill it.
Let us all hope that just like the wand of death touch cannot have its damage altered by items/abilities, the Necro’s damage was not buffed by faithless power.
