Dungeon 9 Turn 53
————
Ricki quickly checks downstairs. There’s clearly some ominous stuff going on, but she can’t make any sense of it.
She then runs back upstairs to stab the faithless in the back (if it can be said to have one) while his party fights it from the front. The surviving zombie manages to inflict another point of Infection on Lara, but otherwise no party member is harmed as they hack the bizarre creature to pieces. The tomb is still once more… for now.
Kill the necromancer Turn 1:
Ricki: Head downstairs with the gang and point out all the traps for them to dodge. Attack the large skeleton.
Kamau: Head downstairs and avoid the traps pointed out by Ricki. Interpose for the group using your shield.
Lara: Wield your new siegesword and the cobra hood. Go downstairs and engage the big skeleton.
Botanya: Head downstairs with the group. Pipe the necromancer so we can hopefully avoid some unblockable damage.
Obviously Botanya and Lara are also avoiding traps. I’d edit this but etc. etc.
Kamau is interposing so we can get the pets to pile on too.
There’s worry big guy might do aoe. Keeping them from keeps them safe.
It’s just a skeleton with higher stats according to Kamau, no fancy special abilities.

I don’t see any reason to distrust his knowledge of these matters.
That’s my expectation as well. I’m thinking, if anything, multi attack like owlbear. But meta wants to be safe.
I would be a bit peeved by any DM that actively went out of their way to lie through an NPC that we trust so much (and sounds this confident) but given how powerful the mushrooms would become if they can survive this dungeon… Gah, that’s a hard choice.
I just posted the variant.

Just for the sake of reiterating my idea from the Turn 52: I think we should consider having Ricki head back towards the screen we’re currently on, in preparation for heading towards Coccyx and talking to him, once we deal with the big skeleton and any summoned skeletons on this next turn.
Kamau and Lara should have no problem with killing the Necromancer at that point, and I’m worried that Ricki will need to talk to Coccyx to recruit him after the Necromancer dies. There’s been some speculation that the dungeon might not end after the Necromancer dies (with us having to do something with the big pile of bodies instead), but this would be a just-in-case, last-ditch effort sort of thing in case it does end right away.
At the very least, I’m hoping that she’ll be able to talk him down once he’s no longer under the Necromancer’s influence (which is a very likely scenario, considering that he seemed to revive on Turn 40+50, when the Necromancer summons more zombies); if we have a little more time to spend in the dungeon, we’ll hopefully be able to keep him alive while we figure out how to actually recruit him.
If there’s anything wrong with this idea than feel free to ignore it/point it out.
We don’t actually know what buff the necromancer got, so it might be hard to get Lara to kill the necromancer on her own. Kamau has to interpose because of the unblockable damage, and the necromancer before his corruption had 12 hp. Lara can do at most 12 damage if she switches over to her robe. We could try having her attack from range while Kamau attacks I melee I guess, but I’d be worried about the necromancer slipping by Kamau.
That is assuming the necromancer got buffed. Doesn’t seem like he’s whisping any smoke right now.
His eyes turned red like the zombie and the faithless.
Damn, you’re right, I completely failed to notice that the Necromancer’s eyes had turned red. My bad. I guess we’ll just have to hope that Coccyx will join us when we complete the dungeon and have to go back the way we came. I mean, I think at this point Ricki has interacted with him enough that he should at least give us the time of day once the Necromancer is dead.
For what it’s worth; I’m going to reiterate my theory on the corrupted zombies and assume that the Necromancer got +3 ATK/DEF. Maybe he got less attack, since 4 Unblockable Damage would be pretty mean- but I think we should save Botanya’s ability point so that she can potentially heal him if he ends up having to use Dauntless after Interposing the big skeleton and the Necromancer during the first round of the boss fight.
Definitely saving the heal.
Kill the necromancer Turn 1, variant that have shrooms attack since Kamau is interposing.
Big skeleton is just a big pile of stats according to Kamau ( https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-9-turn-30/ ), so I’m not worried about AoE.
I’m far more worried of the necromancer who is altered since his damage is unblockable so want to finish this fight ASAP.
Ricki: Head downstairs with the gang and point out all the traps for them to dodge. Attack the large skeleton.
Kamau: Head downstairs and avoid the traps pointed out by Ricki. Interpose for the group using your shield.
Lara: Wield your new siegesword, the cobra hood and poison robes. Go downstairs, avoid all traps and attack the big skeleton.
Botanya: Head downstairs with the group. Avoid all traps and pipe the necromancer so we can hopefully avoid some unblockable damage.
Both shrooms: Attack big skeleton
Also a reminder : we have barely seen it used, but Kamau does have counterattack. One (or more) guaranteed damage on him interposing means a 20% every round he attacks again. Hopefully the fight doesn’t last too long, but it could be clutch.
I would suggest everyone upvotes this so LSN sees
To whom does the ‘his’ in this sentence refer? (shouldn’t it be ‘her’ if it refers to Ricki?)
Also: Lara should have some “green infection circles” showing above her head.
Hey, fun fact-
The Necromancer’s eyes turned red. I think he’s got Faithless mojo in him and we probably need to just scoot because fighting him will go poorly now.
Alternatively: He’s got faithless mojo in him and that makes it all the more imperative that we take him out asap. Our mission coming in here was to eliminate the guy creating the zombies. Now he’s creating faithless zombies, judging by the black smoke rising from his worktable. Scooting would be worse than failing our quest – we’d be knowingly allowing an even greater threat to survive unharmed. We shouldn’t do that unless our lives are on the line. It doesn’t seem like we’re there yet. But we’ll know more after next turn.
