Dungeon 9 Turn 46
————
The party heads to the left, where Lara pulls the lever again, opening the bottom hallway nearby. While she does that, Botanya spends some of her energy to enchant the siegesword into a venomous siegesword. This costs her 5 HP.
Kamau uses the plague sample to turn the greater healing potion into a plague cure. He drinks it quickly, because somehow it tastes even worse than the ectoplasm he drank earlier. His Infection level is reduced by 3, returning him to a single point.
While all this is happening, Ricki tries again to talk to Coccyx.
“Are you okay? You look like you’re in pain or something.”
“A warrior who won’t risk death in the name of victory is no warrior at all!!”
With only that enigmatic explanation, they fire another arrow at Ricki’s face.

So that sword now does +2 poison damage in Lara’s hands, while also ignoring poison immunity and half of poison resistance. That’s awesome and metal as hell. Can anyone remind me what the siegesword stats are?

Continuing the Zombie Kill Plan:
Botanya: Move left. Pipe the first zombie (which will be engaged by Kamau and Lara’s mushroom)
Golly: Kick zombie the second zombie. Let out your frustrations at the heavy load you’ve been bearing, and all these gosh darn zombies in this gosh darn tomb.
Lara: Move left with the group. Shout encouragement.
Lara’s mushroom: Attack zombie 1.
Kamau: With a big heroic effort Attack zombie 1 alongside Lara’s mushroom. Cleave right through that zombie and onto the other zombie and the rat.
Flytrap: Attack the zombie rat.
Ricki: Move left with the group. Once they engage the enemies (thus keeping them distracted) move past the zombies and into the rat hole. Assuming you come out upstairs with the spider, open the chest there. If you need to drop your stake to hold whatever is in the chest, do so.
Do you think Ricki should kill the spider, too? Because we could honest-to-god clear this entire dungeon.
I don’t think we have the time to clear it without going past 60, which I don’t want to advocate for. Even if the tombs are empty there are still the three ghouls with longswords by the random skeleton (one screen right of where we are) and that would take at least a turn to clear, plus the time for Kamau to get unparalyzed.
I reckon that’s a pretty straightforward confirmation that Coccyx has some sort of ability that sacrifices HP for something, possibly the generation of arrows. (Although personally I’d think it’s weird that they look just like regular arrows and aren’t, like, bone arrows or something.)
Also, it looks like he’s in pain again; hopefully he won’t kill himself while trying to kill us. It’s too bad we don’t have regular arrows to give him to avoid any unnecessary damage; we have the armor-piercing ones, but handing those over seems like a horrible idea given that they do guaranteed damage. He could easily kill a pet or remorse out Kamau if he had those, so we definitely can’t hand them over.
There’s a regular arrow in a skeleton right at the bottom of the ladder that we could give him. And now that you mention it, Botanya collected a few on T2, put them in Golly’s packs on T10, and then… where did they go after that?
Might be worthwhile to have someone (Lara?) take a quick peek at the room where we entered the dungeon. If Coccyx really is generating the arrows somehow, maybe they went back into the skeletons on the floor when he was revived?
OK, never mind the idea about the arrows magically disappearing from our inventory when Coccyx revived. I checked again and saw that they stayed in Golly’s packs until T44 (after Cox’s resurrection) and then were given to Lara. Or at least, they were supposed to be given to Lara, but actually they seem to have just disappeared, probably because LSN was following TNIM’s post-swap inventory list and TNIM accidentally left them out of that list.
Well. Cyx gets us.
