Dungeon 9 Turn 38
————
The party is finally reunited in the dungeon’s final room (through Lara is being very quiet for some reason). Botanya throws her rusty sword at the floor trap Ricki points out, which gives Ricki a clear shot at the zombies below with her wand of fireball. The two zombies then shuffle up the ladder towards the party, which puts them in range of Kamau’s cleaving blade and pet flytrap. Both zombies are slain, and Kamau receives another point of Infection.
During this whole maneuver, Ricki notes that the mindless zombies seem to be able to avoid the traps. The must be getting instructions from someone familiar with the dungeon layout. Perhaps other monsters wouldn’t have that advantage, but there aren’t many opportunities left to test that.
Other than Botanya’s sword, none of the rusty gear is destroyed during this fight.
I think the whole point of Coccyx being as weak as they were is because they are in a phylactery right now. Probably lich-ified themselves by making a deal with that demon. So if we find any unusual trinkets with Annoying Archer Aura emanating from them, don’t discard them! It’s probably Coccyx!
My headcanon is that Coccyx sounds like Bender from Futurama. Has the same “kill all humans” mentality, but keeps making excuses as to why they’re not seeing this agenda through. Probably we’ll find the soul jar and it’ll start snarking at us, like “oh, you think you’re soooo great, but wait’ll I get my body back. Also, I was just pretending to lose that battle because I felt bad for you.”
We are actually doing extremely well with these zombies. I reckon we spend turn 39 opening chests and wait for the turn 40 zombies so we aren’t taken by surprise. I also reckon if we do well enough with these next two coming on turn 40, maybe we can even clean out the last three for the secondary goal? It all depends on how things look after turn 40.
I say ignore the trapped chests. Kamau’s hit points are too low right now. But we are trying to figure out a plan to make a treasure chest run for sure
All right. We can’t forget Botanya still has two Nectars, so she can heal someone for 4HP if we need her to.
That’s sadly a mistake. We only have one left.
By which he means, Papergrin, that it’s an editorial error, not yours 🙂
There are still 5 zombies on the map not counting the turn 40 spawn. 3 in the last tomb with the rat hole leading to the spider, and two guarding the sarcophagus in room with the broken floor leading to the snake.
Plan: backtrack
Ricki: point out pressure plates under foot to the group
Everyone: move up one, double move left.
Ricki: with your last action, avoid the trapdoor trap and go one more room down.
For those wanting tonback track and maybe deal with hanging pots until turn 40 zombies. Also gets us eyes on Cyx’s body.
Plan: loot treasure room.
Ricki: point out all 3 pressure plates to the group.and the stalk roach.
Everyone: very carefully avoid the plates and move down past the golem to the treasure room.
Kamau: interpose past the golem.
Botania: open stalk roach chest.
Lara: push the now open chest off the others and open another chest.
Ricki: open the third chest.
So this plan gets us our treasure.
Risk is that golem may activate with a ! And we’ll get swung at when we try to leave. We can do trades and wait out the turn 40 zombies and deal with them here as well since we won’t want to engage boss on turn 40
Edited to have kamau interpose past the golem juuuust in case it swipes at us and manages to remorse kamau.
Additional risk: dungeon ending without us finding out what the heck really happened last turn, with Coccyx.
Consider the symmetry: the ko-fi previews had the respective captions “Life” and “Death” for Botanya and someone whom we took to be Coccyx. We kept Botanya alive, and we killed Coccyx.
Plan: loot chests and get ready to boss fight
Ricki: point out 3 traps, open first chest
Lara: open second chest
If there are no healing items inside chests:
Kamau and shroom1 owner: trade pets
Botanya: heal kamau
Kamau: eat shroom.
I hope it doesn’t take a turn to trade pets, else just open chests.
Reason:
I fear the boss will insta attack if we try to bypass to treasure room so kamau should have high hp to get ready for boss, also next turn botanya can create another flytrap to fill the place of the eaten shroom.
Trading pets is afaik not an option, the pet assignment can’t be changed mid dungeon.
Also LSN generally ignores conditional instructions (so don’t use if statements)
I didn’t know that, thanks
Plan: Wait for turn 40, deal with trap chests
Lara: Avoid all 3 pressure plates pointed out by Ricki. You’re still upset about stupid shooty things, find a good angle to shoot a venomous sting at the lower chest. Then carefully climb down.
Botanya: Avoid all 3 pressure plates pointed out by Ricki. Carefully climb down with the others after Lara shot the chest. She seems upset, make her a flower necklace maybe?
Kamau: Avoid all 3 pressure plates pointed out by Ricki. Carefully climb down with the others after Lara shot the chest. Then go behind the upper chest and – once everyone is out of sight – open it. Pick up any Piercing arrows.
Ricki: Point out all 3 pressure plates for your friends, make sure they can avoid them. Also notice how Lara seems to have been upset, after everyone moved over the plates move up & left to check what happened.
_____ Reasoning ______
I don’t want to move the full party back (too greedy imo) and going to the treausre room on the exact turn the zombies spawn seems a bit risky, so instead let’s try to wait this turn out.
Ricki can check on Coccyx since 2 move allow her to be back next turn. The rest is mostly to pass the time and maybe get rid of the trapped chests.
Challenges I’ve considered:
Plan: Wait for turn 40, don’t touch chests
Lara: Avoid all 3 pressure plates pointed out by Ricki. You’re still upset about stupid shooty things, find a good angle to shoot a venomous sting at the lower chest. Then move one room up.
Botanya: Avoid all 3 pressure plates pointed out by Ricki. Move one room up. Lara seems upset, make her a flower necklace maybe?
Kamau: Avoid all 3 pressure plates pointed out by Ricki. Move behind the upper chest and – once everyone moved upwards – open it. Pick up any Piercing arrows.
Ricki: Point out all 3 pressure plates for your friends, make sure they can avoid them. Move up with Lara & Botanya. Also notice how Lara seems to have been upset, so move 1 room left to check what happened.
_____ Reasoning ______
Less risky alternative to my other plan.
I don’t want to move the party back all the way (too greedy imo) and going to the treausre room on the exact turn the zombies spawn seems a bit risky, so instead let’s try to wait this turn out.
Ricki can check on Coccyx since 2 move allow her to be back in the treasure/necromancer room next turn. The rest is mostly to pass the time and maybe get rid of the trapped chests, while making sure noone is in a line of fire.
won’t work, because you can’t move rooms after attacking.
Hybrid check on cocyx prep plan
Don’t want to go for chests to close to turn 40 of the big guy locks us in. Don’t want to do much more exploring so….
Ricki: trade scroll for coin purse on Botanya. Move over to check on what upset lara and see our bony adversary. Make your way back.
Botanya : take the arrows and greataxe out of golly’s pouches and dump them on the ground.
Kamau : trade cigs to lara for venom gland
Lara : accept trade and think about what you’ve done.
I’m not overly thrilled with the trades here but I do think we need to make space fast for the treasure room as I’m afraid that thing is gonna nuke us as soon as we go down or head back for it and we’ll be committed to the end battle. And I don’t want to start that before turn 40 zombies and we know what’s going on. Any suggestions are welcome.
Do traps fire more than once? If I remember correctly, a trapped chest near the thugs hideout in the warrens only triggered once.
If they only fire once, I suggest we grab one of the zombie’s rusty items and drop them on the level below through the trapdoor, triggering the chest there. Then we can go down through the trapdoor, ignoring the other chest for now.
Then we go to the treasure room, have Kamau open the stalkroach chest and let the bug flee. If the roach is alone in that corridor, it may try to hide inside the still trapped chest, which may trigger the trap and eliminate both threats. We have seen a roach get itself killed before.
If the traps triggering only once works out, we could loot both trapped chests with little risk.
And regarding the zombies, we know now that they deal only 1 damage. So I feel it is safe to have the pets take them all out, again with very little risk to the party.
In the warrens, the chests with pressure plate triggers each time a plate is hit. They also trigger when opened
