Dungeon 9 Turn 16
————
Lara drops the new potion on the ground for later use, then the entire party wades into combat with the group of ten reinforced skeletons below.
Ricki and Lara each manage to rack up an easy kill, while the three combat pets get another one between them. Kamau is able to cleave clear through two skeletons, and deals decent damage to a third one.
Due to being mindless, the skeletons that aren’t directly engaged split their attacks randomly. That plus Botanya’s Disarming Aroma is enough to prevent damage. Her pipes even work this time! All around it’s a refreshing change from the last couple of big fights.
HOORAY
Kamau: attack undamaged skeleton 1 and cleave the wounded one.
Ricki: kill skeleton 2
Lara: kill skeleton 3
Mushies and flytrap: kill skeleton 4
Botania: play your pipes.
This should leave one left.
We could move botania down to scout the next room now but it could result in the flytrap being targets with a 4 attack. we’ll be taking a turn to have kamau drink the potion and maybe open the tomb so she can scout then.
wrack up *an easy kill
Lara: Attack an undamaged skeleton.
Ricki: Unequip your rusty shield. then attack a different undamaged skeleton.
Kamau: Attack a third undamaged skeleton, then cleave to your heart’s content.
Botanya: Head downstairs to reveal the new room.
As we just saw, only skeletons not attacked by a character target randomly. With 3 people attacking different skeletons, only two of them will target randomly, and every non pet character can handle more than 6 damage. Kamau has a 50/50 shot of cleaving the remaining uninjured skeleton first. If he does, we should kill all 5 skeletons. If he doesn’t, we’ll be left with 1 half health skeleton that we can clean up later or safely ignore. In my opinion it’s more important to get eyes on the next room now than to keep Botanya in this fight to let us use pets to guarantee the kill.
Wait, why did we drop the potion? Can’t Botanya feed Kamau the potion while he do another action of his own?
I vaguely remember we did something like that before.
Actually, I just went ahead and skimmed some previous dungeons to check and I think this might be an instance of what I’m thinking?

Honestly not sure, but you’re not having Botanya doing any action so might as well have her pick up the potion, try it, and drop it back down if it doesn’t work before exploring the new room?
I recall that we tried I feed characters potions and it won’t work. Also we’re likely going to have Kamau drink it turn 18 once we use heroic effort to finish off this group. We’re in no rush.
LSN confirmed on discord that Kamau used his action to drink the potion. Yes that seems to conflict with him having picked up a guarded item, but LSN directly confirmed Lara used her action to feed the potion to her spider, and Kamau used his to drink the potion.
We’ve never had any luck using a consumable on anything other than the character using it, or a pet.
Ah I see, thanks for the info.
I still feel like we could do something with Botanya’s action though. Maybe listen closely to the other coffin to try to hear any movement inside. Maybe think about anything useful she knows about undead. Anything, really.
Unequip Ricki’s rusty shield. She doesn’t need it to have over 6 defense so let’s not risk it breaking for nothing.
Good catch. I kept forgetting that needed to be done because we tried to avoid equipping it in the first place.
based on Meta comment but with Kamau going after potion
Lara: Attack an undamaged skeleton.
Ricki: remove rusty shield and attack a different undamaged skeleton.
Kamau: Drink the potion of Ectoplasm from the floor
Botanya: Head downstairs to reveal the new room.
There are 5 skeletons (2 attack each). both Ricki (8 without hsield, 11 if we keep it) and Botanya will have enough armor (8) to take damage from 4 of them if the RNG makes them focus one (5th will always attack the other person). we can safelly engage using just those 2 characters/
That will leave 3 skeletons in the corridor (6dmg).
We don’t need to exterminate all enemies in our path, if they are a mob we just need to reduce them so much they can’t deal damage.
if we have time Ricki can always pop in and smack another later, or Kamau take 2 out.
The only limitation is we can’t run past them while engging another fight same turn, but that’s not how we are playing anyway
also we might be able to turn off whatever buffs them so they will be just 1 attack each anyway.
Tl;DR
i value Kamau having 7 HP and some inconsequentiall enemies over Kamau with 2 HP (and Dauntess tbf) with empty corridor.
We confirmed that this dungeon has unblockable dmg enemies.
I would prefer to keep his resurect skill for Boss fight or an accident. 2HP is just to few to be comfortable.
WAITWAITWAIT!!!! That potion y’all want Kamau to drink…that’s not going to reduce everyone else’s HP, is it????? The description says “living creatures” and it’s a dubious ectoplasm potion that probably drains life from others in the surrounding area. Do we really want Ricki to have just 3HP? Remember that Lara got hit for 3HP not too long ago, so doing this could one-shot us a lost game. I’d much rather use Botanya’s Nectar on him.
I doubt it will, it doesn’t say that it affect anyone besides the user and that would be a pretty dick move
I think that’s a really stretched reading of the potion. My interpretation is that any living creature drinking the potion heals for 5 hp but loses 2 max hp for the rest of the dungeon. So a hypothetical skeleton companion drinking the potion would gain 5 hp with no downside, but all of our other characters would have to contend with the max hp loss.
It’d be funny if Botanya is just playing random notes. Nobody said her music sounded *good.*
