Dungeon 6 Turn 32
————
Macadamia unlocks the door to the tower top, then flees back to the living room.
Ricki and Lara charge in, directing their attacks at the roosting bats up above. The wolf spider charges up the wall and beelines specifically for the second bat from the left, as if it knows something the rest of the party doesn’t. In the process of attacking that bat, it knocks the other three loose, which all fall straight down and hit the batbeast, shattering on impact and seeming to deal no damage. It seems most of these bats were made of stone!
The sole living bat turns out to be one of the more powerful venom bats seen previously, and both it and the batbeast (after taking to the air) attack the wolf spider in retaliation, killing the poor beast. However, Lara’s Venomous Sting spell is enough to kill the venom bat in turn. Now only the batbeast remains.
Ricki had planned to attack one of the small bats when it descended, but since none of them do, she simply prepares for the next stage of the fight.
Lohk opens the chest in the living room, finding another set of leather armour. She then rides Daisy back down to the kitchen. A bat attempts to bite her face along the way, but it doesn’t get past her Def.
Interesting. Fake bats are a thing. Now it makes using them as a tactic more risky since it may not work as intended
I don’t think they were fake. I think they could be bat-like stone gargoyles or something like that, and as they were disturbed/detached the wolf-spider while they were sleeping, they fell and shattered before having a chance to wake up.
LSN indicated on discord that the batbeast would’ve dropped them on us if we had targeted it first rather than the small bats.
Were the bats fake or did something (possibly under the bed) turn them into stone?
I’m also for having someone not currently fighting go check the sofa for loot.
LSN confirmed fake bats on discord
Macadamia: Grab the other set of keys in the living room. While there, see if you can tell which way the rat hole runs without actually entering it, then head to the foyer.
Lohk: Use master wand on the wand of death touch in the kitchen, pop down to the basement to check on the skull door, then head to the foyer.
Ricki: Attack the batbeast with your longsword if you can reach it. If you can’t, go unlock the chest by the pet master with your thieves tools.
Lara: Attack the batbeast with your “bat”tleaxe if you can reach it. Otherwise poison bolt it for the lols and hope it lands next round.
Reasoning: this gets Mac in place to unlock the door to the owlbear. This seems like the best use for him since it seems like it’ll be a bit before we’ve killed the batbeast and can trade back inventory. I don’t think it makes sense to switch until we can get everybody free to do so, preferably while moving back to the library. I think the other turns are self-explanatory.
My expected skull totals if we get to see the door this turn and the batbeast doesn’t somehow die:
Large skulls: 3 darkened, 2 Lit
Medium Skulls: 12 Darkened, 4 Lit
Small Skulls: 17 Darkened, 7 Lit
RIP Wolf Spider. You had to die sooner or later and your death helped save us from a lot of damage. Of all the ways to lose you, this was a pretty good one.
I’m sad
I wanted Lara to ritualistically sacrifice it as the last skull.
To show off her skills from being part of a Cult.
R.I.P. Spider buddy, though you were only a temporary pet anyway so I guess that’s fine.
Goodbye, wolf spider. You died, as you lived – killing.
