Dungeon 6 Turn 26
————
Lara takes another swing and destroys another skeleton. She wonders where everyone else keeps going.
Ricki and Macadamia return to the library. Ricki joins Lohk in searching for stuff to read, while ordering her wolf spider to attack the enemy on the floor above. There! It’s right there! But for some reason the creature can’t seem to understand what Ricki is pointing at. Macadamia ends up fighting the skeleton alone, dealing minor damage.
Ricki and Lohk find the following scraps of text on the final two bookshelves:
“From the mightiest beast to the smallest mouse, all bar the way.”
“2 chs, dissolve in alcl, stir w rt, 1 drop psn for taste, stew until finished”
Awe we did we eat all the cheese and now can’t have Beer Rat Cheese stew?
I’m so sad.
I’m sure it will be a valid recipe in next dungeon to.
We will have time for cooking!!!
one day we might even make pancakes!!
While steak could be done on-the-stove, for the stew, I suppose we need
… a bucket 😉
That’s goblin fondue.
There is one more cheese on a table. So if there is another one somewhere…
Do rats or dire rats drop cheese? I hope we find some more, maybe it’s a shinny cheese that’s under the bed.
Macadamia: Finish off that skeleton.
Lohk: Go downstairs, stand to the far left and cast ray of frost on a bat.
Lara: Rejoin the group in the foyer, stand under the very right margin of the group of bats and cast poison bolt on a different bat than Lohk.
Ricki: Go downstairs, stand under the left margin of the group of bats, left of Lara, and then attack a bat when they get near.
This gets us started on clearing out the bats, which we want to have Lara and Lohk for due to their ranged attacks preempting bat dodge when the bats are roosted. After a turn of this we should be able to send Lara up to attack the remaining skeleton, as long as the bat group isn’t filled with venom bats or otherwise incredibly dangerous while the rest of the group finishes off the bats.
Edits to Lara and Ricki positioning are credited to siv!
Just to be clear about why I want to open the bat combat now – Mac and Lohk can’t help us fight the scorpion because it did 9 damage to Kamau and that’s enough to kill either of them. If they can’t help us fight the scorpion we need something for them to do in the meantime and the most productive thing I can think of having them do is fight the bats. There is a set of keys and the candy that someone could grab, bur that’s only two actions and that won’t cut it. If we have to fight the bats it’s better to confirm as many attacks when they can’t dodge as possible, and that means using Lara and Lohk as an opening attack. That means it’s best to do that now while we still have a skeleton around. That’ll give Lara an enemy to kill within 1 move on turn 27, 28, and then she can fight the scorpion on turn 29.
1) Lohk can shoot the scorpion from a distance.
2) There is no way to know the bat type they will face. Maybe, it is better to visit the guy with the bat of a new type before? What if there are bats of that type…
We’ve never tried to fight a scorpion before. Maybe she can attack from a distance, but maybe it targets the weakest looking member of the group. We’ll know more after a round of safe fighting with Ricki and Lara.
And also I think if we win the guy’s (The master of pets) challenge it is possible we get something useful to “upgrade” our pets (or even better somehow to influence dungeon monsters, e.g. bats).
Ricki: Go down a room.
Lara: Smash the last Skull!
Maca: Go down a room and pick up the Keys.
Lohk: Attack the Skeleton Maca already hit.
Daisy: Join Lohk’s Attack.
Reason:
It’s mostly the same as thisnameismeta’s post. The main difference is it doesn’t mess with the bats because we can mess with them when we’re coming back through this room anyway. This way, Lara can fight the Scorpion next turn instead of two turns from now. It also gives us something to do on the turn Lara has to come back instead of doing nothing. (In other words, not killing stuff so we can kill it later)
Having Ricki and Maca go down puts them a place where they can get to any room that has monsters next turn. Maca picking up the Keys is for the sake of someone picking them up because they’re probably used for the Giant Bat’s room. Lohk’s higher Mobility lets her finish off the Skeleton and still be able to catch up.
Slightly alternative plan
Ricki: Go to the same area as Lara.
Lara: Smash the last Skull!
Maca: Go down, pick up the Keys, and stand on the other side of the room from the bats.
Lohk: Go down and cast Ray of Frost on a Bat.
Daisy: Sit.
If Lara, Ricki and the Wolf Spider attack the Scorpion next turn, Maca and Lohk will need something to do. Attacking the bats lets both of them attack next turn.
This plan doesn’t do anything with Ricki’s action. Part of why I have people fighting bats is so we have something to do with everybody every turn. Even if we don’t finish the bats off (because we need people to grab keys and candy) starting the bat fight this turn means we can productively use everybody every turn between now and 30. I don’t think that’s possible without fighting the bats at some point, and this is the only turn where we can have both Lara and Lohk attack the bats while they’re roosted before turn 30. Bats have no dodge chance when roosted, so this is an important bonus. Everybody else will simply fail to kill a bat 30% of the time, so we want to minimize combat with flying bats.
While it’s probably obvious, let’s have it said somewhere:
Discord thinks psn=poison and I agree.
“From the mightiest beast to the smallest mouse, all bar the way.”
This means the door won’t open until we exterminate every beast in the dungeon.
I think that’s wrong. There are too many enemies for that to work out with our skull count I’m pretty sure. I think the clue just means all three enemy types contribute to keeping the door closed, and it isn’t a matter of like, once all the medium and large skulls are down the door opens and small skulls do something different.
New crackpot theory about the “Three” riddle. The bottom three bookcases are alike in shape, but all had different contents (composition). One had a monster, one had a magic scroll, and one had a clue. Maybe we can push the 3 bookcases together in the center and that will unlock something? That would be working them together.
Unless that click we heard did something in the tomb (seems super unlikely) or master bedroom I don’t think it actually did anything on its own.
I wonder if Lara are able to create 1 drop of poison for the recipe.
There is a centipede’s venom gland stored on the upper floor of the entrance room. If squeezed gently, it might supply the needed drop.
