Dungeon 6 Turn 16
————
Ricki and the wolf spider continue to beat on the bookworm, but it really can soak up a huge amount of abuse. It continues trying to chew on Ricki, ignoring the wolf spider completely, but does no damage.
Seeing that Ricki has her own battle well in hand, Lohk rides Daisy back to the kitchen. She’s kind of tired from all the running around, so she lets the dog join in the fight against the ladybaatle (which promptly ends) while sitting it out herself. She instead checks under the bed. What appears to be glittering eyes from outside instead turns out to be the gleam of a silver ring!
Macadamia recovers his shield and sword, then quickly checks downstairs.
Nothing much to note here. Macadamia returns to the kitchen.

RING, SILVER
Ring
Pretty, but seemingly useless.
Weight 1, Cost 10
Lohk, Ricki, Pets, and Mac: kill the bookworm
Lara: pick up some of the meat off the table and cook them in the stove
Lara should pick 2 meats (they stack up to 3) and 2 cheese. She has 3 inventory.
At that point if it’s allowed she might as well cook meat, but i doubt cooking doesn’t’ count as action.
Lara should also “think” about preparing the cheese, maybe we can cook that to to remove mold.
Cheap Ale, not worth taking.
Cooking cheese usually ends very bad if you don’t have any container like a frying pan. Cheese melts easily, and we’d lose it.
Otherwise I agree about picking up things. She should take as much as possible. It still costs 1hp, regardless of how much she picks up, so let’s use that 1hp as well as possible.
Theory
BookWorm AI targets Ricki because she is holding “ENCYCYLOPEDIA APOCRYPHA” which is a book.
turn 15
turn 16 (this one)
the term “chew on” is consistent description of it’s actions. Trying to eat.
It’s unlikelly we will see another any time soon. But figuring AI targeting is important.
Wow. You’re probably right. It’s just as with Rusty – it “ignored completely” other non-metal things. But this doesn’t change much. If we leave the monster and not pickup the scroll, it will be eaten. If we leave the monster, it will continue to eat books from bookshelves.
Actually, it might be good Ricky has this book. Otherwise the worm could just ignore her attacks and continue feating on books.
Time to start dog skeleton cleanup in preparation for Monday! Monday is Halloween and dog skeletons will wake up!
Ricki and Spider: keep hitting the bookworm.
Lohk: move to the library and destroy a dog skeleton, while Daisy helps with the bookworm.
Lara: sorry, but you’ll have to move through the flies again. Move towards the stove, while picking up all food items you can without further damaging yourself, prioritizing meats, then cheese.
Mac: Move to entrance hall and destroy a dog skeleton there, from the big group of three dog skeletons near the door.
Additional Suggestion: Remember to have Lohk and Maca crawl under the table!
Only problem with this is that it’ll be impossible to get the rat hole skeleton. Nobody has the movement to reach it if Lohk ends turn in library instead of entryway.
Ricki: Keep Slicing and Oxidicing!
Lara: Pick up the Meat and Cheese and go back to the entrance room.
Maca: Crawl under the table and join Ricki’s fight against the Bookworm.
Lohk: Crawl under the table, pick up and drink the Healing Potion, and go watch the Bookworm struggle to do anything.
Daisy: Bite the worm!
Wolf Spider: Eat the worm! Spiders eat worms, right?
Explanations:
I don’t like bugs. (Other than Rusty. Who doesn’t love Rusty?) Kill it!
Lohk using the Healing Potion is because she can’t cast Heal on herself and she’s down 2 HP.
Lara staying in the kitchen to cook meat would be nice, (That sounds sexist… Please don’t quote me out of context.) but I don’t think she can do that after picking up stuff and her low Mobility makes me want her closer to the rest of the Dungeon. If we want to cook next turn, she can still go back. If we want to cook later, she can trade with someone else and have them go back to cook instead if we need to cook the meat or we could wait until we come back through to cook it.
Correction:
silly things:
I wonder if we can tie all the rat tail to the ring, creating …
.. no idea .. spooky dreamcatcher? or some One Ring of the Rat King?
Lara: Head downstairs, grabbing meat and cheese in that priority order from the table as you go, as long as doing so won’t cause you additional damage. If you’re limited by item proximity, start with the meat furthest to the left and grab anything else you can. Head left to the entryway.
Ricki: Fight the bookworm
Wolf Spider: Fight the bookworm.
Lohk: Head down to the basement, crawling under the table on your way, and then go through the rat hole. Break the dog skeleton in this room.
Macadamia: Go into the entryway, break a dog skeleton there.
I’m prioritizing clearing out skeletons, which means sacrificing some damage on the bookworm. Next turn Lohk can go to the entryway and break a dog skeleton there. Macadamia can break the final entryway skeleton, Lara can attack the bookworm in the library backed up by the wolf spider and Ricki can clear out the library dog skeleton.
I’m very much assuming that the bookworm in that case will either follow Ricki (because she has interacted with it and also carries a book) and on its way eat the scroll on the floor, or turn away from Lara and eat whatever is in the book case to its left.
Can you please word it specifically, that Lara gets in the way of the bookworm eating any books, while attacking? (Dunno if that will work, since she doesn’t have interpose, but it’s worth a shot, especially since books are not people, they don’t move and therefore should be easier to protect.)
Also: yay to “only” 6 middle skulls left on the door! Plus 4 large ones, and 21 tiny ones. Progress. 😀
That would be next turn, so it hasn’t happened yet and I can’t give instructions.
I wonder if Mac can smif a silver ring. Have to try that at some point
Ok so checked Mac’s stats and Ringsmiffing I only allows copper rings. The fact that it is an upgradeable trait makes me say silver rings will be smiffable later. Maybe 2 enhancements can fit on a silver ring?
Yeah, it’s an obvious level-up ability.
Yes, it makes winning the dungeon all the more important since we will see which abilities can be upgraded. Of course, the main reason for winning at this point is to survive.
