Dungeon 5 Turn 31
————
Lara drops her gauntlets and takes the healing potions, then she and Kamau head to the left. Kamau runs up to the top floor, drops a piece of cheese for the rat, but gets attacked nonetheless because he dropped it straight down at his own feet instead of using his action to toss it. He then picks up the spiked buckler and retreats back down to the bottom level.
Lara feeds one of her healing potions to the spider, since it subsists entirely on a liquid diet, then gives the other potion to Kamau. He and the spider recover 2 HP each.
After swapping her purse and oxidicer with Lara for the rat fang and tails, Ricki, her new pet Daisy, and the two kobolds hurry on to the big empty room with the rust monster. She wastes no time and talks to the kobold with the pickaxe.
“Hello again.”
“No time for small talk! There’s a big problem. The Guard is in the dungeon and they’re gonna be here real soon. We need you to let us into the mines.”
“What mines?”
“The ones that run under the whole ground floor! There’s a bunch of other kobolds with pickaxes down there!”
“How do you know there’s—”
“And you think I have something to do with them just because I have a pickaxe too?”
“There’s nothing up HERE to use one on! Just tell us how to get down there before the Guard shows up. Please?”
“We have a kid with us.”
“…”
“Fine. Stand back.”
*CLANK*
“Hey. It’s time to evacuate.”
“I was afraid of that. Get everyone in here.”
The kobold knocks down the wall between the rust monster room and the apartment with supernatural ease. Anyone can now walk through. The kobold father on the other side is not nearly as surprised as Ricki would expect.
Kamau: Grab Lens on your way down to Rusty. Move left into the Bedroom
Lara: Move down, drop book and 1 Lens, pickup wolf armor. Move left into bedroom with Kamau (phrased that deliberately)
Ricki: Drop wolf armor, pick up lens and book. Use lens on Guard (or rusty if guard not visible yet). Move Left
Lara & Ricki pt 2: Swap armor with book again if you can
Everyone else: Move left into room.
I don’t think we need to spend an action to “Talk” with the Kobolds more to further the escape this round. It sounds like things are in motion and we have a downtime turn while they open an escape hatch to mine.
Figured we use up lenses while we can.
Rusty will react if we don’t appease him, most likely. Kamau’s plate triggers him.
Enemies have never left their position to attack us unless we attacked them on that turn. Observe the Owlbear still hanging back, and recall Rusty noticing Kamau without charging the ladder.
We feed Rusty because they deserve it.
We can do naught but do as the kobold says.
So:
Ricki: drop rat fang. While riding Daisy for the extra move, go up stairs, use a lens on the owlbear, get a longsword, go back down, drop longsword for Rusty, get rat fang back, go left.
Kamau: Get a set of thieves tools. Stow all metal equipment. Keep it in your inventory, but don’t let Rusty see it. Move down and left into the apartment. Put on plate armor and normal non-gold shield back on upon arrival.
Lara: Stow all metal equipment. Keep it in your inventory, but don’t let Rusty see it. Move down and left into the apartment.
Followers (Macadamia and dolly mommy): follow the party into the apartment.
Would Ricki be able to use the lens while in the upper room additional to your planning? I am not sure yet about movement of Daisy and rider.
You’re right! Added.
I was already planning all that, but made the wording less ambiguous, good call.
Daisy can’t move independently of Ricki per LSN on the discord. Her movement is just for purposes of being a mount.
I really doubt Rusty would go after us on the ledge, but I’m ok with the overabundance of caution since it doesnt really cost us anything.
Edit: No, I’m wrong. We need to double move, and Daisy can triple move.
I don’t super duper value lensing the owlbear. We won’t have to fight another one this dungeon presumably, so we could instead get info from the kobold family about their locked chest.
Saving the lens also means we can lens a guard from the tunnels with Ricki later.Edit: we’re using the floor lens not Lara’s lense presumably. Maybe make that explicit?Kamau said we won’t steal from family, so even if we remove items from there, they’ll be the family’s.
Ergo, the ones to initiate the conversation of removing the goods from the chest must be the family.
I don’t want to risk committing a faux pas with the people about to save us for items we can’t get anyway.
If they leave the items behind next turn or ask us to unlock the chest, I just took the thieves tools so we can open the chest regardless on the next turn.
Wifi cycled, posted reply underneath comment with clarification.

Clarification for LSN: The lens to be used by Ricki is the one on the floor!
Kamau: use lens on Owlbear move down
Lara: move down, move into room
Ricki: get inside, ask for exit
Ricki:
INVENTORY: Drop rat fang safely on the ledge.
MOVE 1: Mount Daisy and go up one screen.
INVENTORY: Pickup a longsword.
MOVE 2: Still on Daisy, Go down one screen.
INVENTORY: Drop the longsword from the ladder for Rusty to munch on, then pick up the rat fang from the ledge.
MOVE 3: Still on Daisy, go left one screen. Bring the Kobolds along with you.
ACTION: Talk to the kobold father and see if he or his family need any assistance with the pending evacuation. For example, do he and his family actually have the key to that locked chest or do they need help unlocking it before the guards get there and confiscate it? Ricki and the rest of the party would be happy to help with whatever they need, and are all really grateful for the kobold’s help in getting away from the guards. Again, not trying to rob them.
Daisy:
Be a swift steed for Ricki
Kamau:
INVENTORY: Take off the gold shield and use your normal shield instead. Pick up one of the sets of thieves tools
MOVE: Down one screen to the ledge with the new opening into the apartment.
ACTION: Move again to the left.
Lara:
MOVE: Down one screen to the ledge with the new opening into the apartment.
ACTION: Move again to the left.
Spider:
Follow Lara, no action.
I still think the inclusion of the locked kobold chest is weird, and I don’t value lensing the owlbear this turn an incredible amount. Yes it means we waste one lens, but if there’s anything helpful in the locked chest and the kobolds don’t mind it being opened OR we can actually help them out by opening it, I think we should try for that.
Can we somehow use the lens to scan the Justicar? He obviously seems to be the one in command of the search team here, I think we’ll see more of them. He can use magic, he has a ranged attack, info on him may very well be worth using up the lens – if anything – just to learn his spells.
And if we dont learn his spells, and if we instead just learn something generic like “can cast Emperor-backed divination spells”, it still tells us (1) something important about magic in this world (2) that most probably we won’t learn much more if we scan any other magic user.
If the exit is through the wardrobe and it leads through the suspicious rock in the tunnels immediately below it, following turns can look like this.
Turn 33, Ricki moves through wardrobe on Daisy, moves one square right, then one ladder down. Everybody else moves through wardrobe and right ending at Ricki.
Turn 34: Ricki moves back up ladder. Assuming bats died Turn 31, guards arrive at Rusty this turn. Ricki uses lens from Lara on justiciar from tunnels then goes right and through rathole (using daisy mount to get through 3 movement).
Trying out a new format for posts. I’m not sure whether it’s better than just writing out actions, as you can end up with weird repeated blocks like the three moves for Ricki, but at least right now it feels more readable to me than just walls of text. Would love to know what people think even if they don’t like the suggested turn!
I really like this format. It makes it really clear how much of ‘actions’ is used per person, and also will make it much easier for other to cut&paste and interleave or change certain bits. Great idea!
Both guesses were right, this miner kobold knows the way and it’s through the wardrobe! Knocking down Dungeon walls is quite the feat.
No escape route through the smiffery, though. Macadamia isn’t as jaded and prepared for disaster as these folks.
Daisy giving the little girl a ride, that’s cute.
