Dungeon 3 Turn 67
————
Resolved now to face this creature together after Ricki relays how dangerous it is, Kamau and Lara swap the solar armour and sun sphere to optimize their frontline, despite Lara complaining that the armour makes her itch. Kamau then pours the holy water onto his longsword, causing it to glow brightly. By the time the faithless slouches up the ladder to their platform, the party is ready.
Kamau and Lara attack the abomination in melee, while Ricki hangs back and fires holy bolts at it. It’s a little hard to tell exactly where to hit the thing, since they can’t tell whether it’s a solid or liquid, or even whether it’s two-dimensional or three-dimensional (maybe four-dimensional?!), but they manage to deal heavy damage to it. The faithless strikes Kamau for 1 damage in return.
All: Keep going
If turn 68 has counterattack happen, we’re done with this fight.
If we don’t win the 20%, we could have Lara and Kamau swap armor again so he doesn’t take the last point of damage, but if this ends the dungeon, we don’t need to run that last 10% chance to break the armor.
Can they swap armor in the middle of combat?
As odd as it sounds – yes, they can, I think we did that already.
Kamau hasn’t used the Dauntless I Ability’s once per dungeon recovery from 0 HP yet, so he’ll be able to take an extra hit. This boss is (probably) the end of the dungeon so why not use it?
We’re not using the Holy Bowling Ball to attack? Well, melee it is then. Can’t imagine why we wouldn’t use the thing, it seems tailor made for this boss battle.
It’s an area attack and we don’t know exactly what that area is, it might hurt Kamau and Lara (even Ricki depending on the size of the blast).
And it’s worth 20 Gold.
Hold the line!

Much more appropriate. Especially with the bells at the start.
Good start to the fight. Been a while since I have been here. Totally overthought that lever earlier in the dungeon.
If they finish off the Faithless quickly, move over to the ghoul with the sword/shield after swapping Kamau back into the solar armor. This minimizes the waste of the Holy Water. At this point, Kamau’s Heroic Effort ability may also kick in on the Ghoul.
Nice idea. I’d add, “unless Kamau’s Dauntless activates”. But yeah, if we can hold against Faithless, with holy-water effect still active, the ghoul would probably go in one turn.
Use the double-fist hammer attack!
Off-topic but this crowd will like it: Star Trek: Voyager: The Animated Series. What if Filmation had made episodes of Voyager? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luEDui2zAUw
Lara has at least 6 inventory slots, I see.
Side trivia: Lara is the name of Lucca’s mother, the inventor in Chrono Trigger. In addition, Lara is one of the few names that can be typed with the buttons of an SNES controller.
Counterattack: 1/8. Kamau also took that hit from the bats, but he wasn’t attacking that turn so no chance to counter.
Ah, man, Kamau is down to two HP. On the upside, that means his heroic effort triggers even more often and we get to see these “square glasses” (at least that’s how it looks to me) on him more often.
Also, I like how Lara is holding out the torch for even more light, just in case… 😀
Adrenaline (+1 attack when below 5 HP) would’ve been in effect for a decent chunk of this Dungeon. Still, while I’m bringing up level up abilities, Heavy Armour Proficiency can be consistently active provided we finish with enough treasure to buy Chain (23) or Plate (30), and Cleave is much better with access to at least a sword if not greatsword.
