Dungeon 3 Turn 57
————
Kamau and Ricki engage the sunny creature. Ricki throws her dagger from a distance after swapping her thieves’ tools for a torch, while Kamau rushes in an makes a Heroic Effort to destroy the monster as quickly as possible. The sunhead takes significant damage, while Kamau takes none from its counterattack.
Lots of discussion on either to use winch or try the drow again. Honestly it’s kinda cool to see all the ideas flying around. I’ve been flip flopping myself on what to do.
My preference is to send Ricki up to drow and bird and see if we can get any hints and leave Kamau within 1 turn of winch just in case turn 50 danger rears its ugly head (like a ghost that goes through walls). Ricki would have the torch which may be good for the webs and such.
Interesting fact, Sunhead has at least 8 hp to trigger Kamau’s Heroic effort. with ricki’s dagger, I think we did 5 damage. It should fall next turn to Kamau alone.
The Drow option:
Kamau: Attack Sunhead.
Ricki: climb up rope 2 screens, avoid the glass
If we pick this option, I feel there is a very good chance at least 1 undead will get out the door costing us 10gp. We have some good loot that would cover that loss so I’m ok taking either option.
Edit: Ug, looking back at the drow section, I’m not sure Ricki can climb out the window over the chest to get to the bird by herself. Maybe scratch this option and focus on killing sunhead this turn.
The Winch option:
Kamau: Attack Sunhead
Ricki: Attach rope to winch and examine it.
Ricki: Attack with your hands
Kamau: Attack
Sunhead 8 (or more) hp confirmed. If it has 3 def, we did 5 damage to it, so we’ll need to do 3 more damage to kill it, and we could do it now.
If we were switching to the sunhead from the centipede, we should have not thrown the dagger so Ricki could keep using it. Vs the centipede, we could use the bolts, but if the sunhead armor works the same way as ours, it would get +1 def vs the bolt, effectively negating it.
Using hands instead of torch because 8 hp 3 def means we need only 1 more atk, so we don’t need to use the torch. If it has 9 hp or 4 def, rip.
Heroic effort should turn off now that Kamau is no longer half its hp.
Dang it, you’re right. still need Ricki there to take it down in 1 turn.
Can’t Ricki still attack with her dagger? If a dagger would be sticking in a human being and it would be turned around, knowledge by movies and books tells that it would cause further harm. I do not know whether that is true also for sunheads.
More food for thought about the Drow section:
Using bird to fly Ricki (or rope) up to Drow (unlikely)
I noticed that the Drow is sitting on or at least very close to a big spiderweb that’s between the 2 sections. Spiders typically respond to movement on their web so maybe interacting with the web might get her attention (long shot but hey..)
That’s a pretty thick web, considering it was able to hold Kamau. OTOH, the web is on the wall, not on the floor, so I doubt the drow is literally sitting on it. Still, I like the idea.
However, not before the sunhead dies.
(boring nagging) And if we try to open the golden chest somehow, killing centipede and maybe getting the venom-sack might be a very good idea that could boost Ricky’s atk enough to kill that last sunhead (I’m not referring to the sunhead with a sword, until we have options to rise Ricky’s atk/def, or get the drow or flyguy or anyone else who can join Ricky in that fight – fighting that armed sunhead is somewhat pointless (yes, bow, I remember, but still, that’s just bow))
Kamau: Attack sun-head with your Hilt.
Ricki: Borrow the longsword and attack the sun-head.
Hmm, confirmed 8+ HP. Recalculating…
We’ve destroyed sun-heads with one turn of 5 damage and two turns of 7 damage. I had assumed 4 defense, for 4-5 HP. At 3 defense, that would be 7-10 HP, as losing 6 HP left it standing.
In our case, we dealt 8 damage this turn with the Heroic Effort bonus, so 3 defense would leave it down 5 HP. We might be able to finish it with Ricki unarmed, but I’d prefer to apply weaponry.
