Dungeon 3 Turn 45
————
Kamau and Ricki move to the right side of the room, investigating for traps but finding nothing despite their various efforts. Kamau then opens the chest in order to be safe, but nothing pops out or explodes.
Inside is a magic lens. Ricki holds onto it for now.
Ricki also briefly inspects the open window and the outdoors area of the room. It looks like anyone should be able to fit through and climb up the decorative stonework to the room above. The spikes on the roof outside prevent climbing down or around to the other sides of the building, however, meaning that if the right-side outer area is to be reached, it would have to be from above.
Ricki: Climb out of the window and up to the next screen, but don’t enter any rooms – lets scout it out.
Kamau- Switch to the leather armor (so the stalkroach doesn’t break the sun armor). Open the other chest. Murderize the Stalkroach if it shows up
Mind the glass Ricki
I still think we should keep Ricky from any immediate unknown danger in new rooms. Let Kamau take a peek, and only if the nearest area is safe, let Ricky look more into it with her eyes.
It may be Ricki with Dungeon Eyes, but we the readers can also see dungeons in cross section. Case in point, neither of our party members had a chance to be baffled by the Ghoul Pope until after we knew.
Kamau: go up two levels (in the same room), jump the gap, switch to leather armor and open the chest, mindful of any stalkroaches. If possible (dunno if opening the chest counts as action) attack the appearing enemy. If no enemy appears, go outside and up one room. Mind the glass (yeah, I know he doesn’t -have- to, because of boots, but I’d rather include it in my action, so people will be aware of the glass more).
Ricki: go up one level (in the same room) and if an enemy exits the chest, attack it (from safe distance). If no enemy exits the chest, go down one room and – as long as there is no battle already going on and there are still disturbed bats around, holy-bolt shoot one of the bats. Mind the glass. (there’s a big patch in the lowest level there, not sure if Ricki has to cross it in order to shoot the bats, better to be safe than sorry).
(following CombatDoctors advice, I would rather send Kamau out and up to scout this or next turn, and we know that the 3 agitated bats in the room down below can’t hurt Ricki. She might as well do something useful and clear some of the not so tough enemies.
Yeah, I know splitting up isn’t ideal, but engaging the trunk-flies here does hold the risk of the two of them together being able to hurt Ricki, e.g. if each of them has attack 2.)
EDIT: slightly changed the actions to include attack on the enemy (if one appears) and go up one room (outside) for Kamau and minding the glass for Ricki, if she goes down to attack the bats.
I’m tempted to use the lens on some monster, like i.e. the flyguy, but if there’s any chance the tower ends in the room above, there may be kind of a boss guarding the bell… so not yet IMHO
Also remember that if we carry the lens to the next merchant, that’s 15 gold right there. We’ve figured out stats for most relevant enemies through trial and error.
Of course, inventory space is finite and we want to actually complete the dungeon. Scanning ashen skeletons would help inform what we’re getting into there, we have a starting point but when there’s three of them any mistakes are dangerous. Even so, I don’t think it changes our approach if we need the pile behind them anyway, we still want solar armour and holy water. We know nothing about the flies or the spider dog.
I feel that stats are less important than targetting behaviors. Knowing how some things act (like the bats) has been a HUGE help. Ideally I’d prefer to use the lens on an enemy we’ll most likely see again like the bug enemies.
Only downside is that the magic lens hasn’t given targeting information, we were still caught off guard by the snale we used the lens on (the lens entry didn’t clarify how eye stalks indicated targeting) and the bats entry just says they attack anyone nearby without mention of the random targeting. Stats we can figure out on our own, but it generally costs a bit of HP to pin down the exact numbers, and that’s before conditional and random effects. I honestly wouldn’t mind using the lens on the other spider to figure out what was happening with that increasing damage over time.
Agreed that identifying enemies we will see again is preferable. People were annoyed at identifying bats last time, but I’m glad we didn’t save the lens to burn it on the rat king that we didn’t have time to fight and which will never appear again.
On the one hand, in the room below Ricki can shoot bats, skeletons and ghoul guy, but on the other hand, if Kamau has an encounter in the next room up, Ricki needs a double move just to get there, i.e.:
1. Ricki: attacking in the room below.
Kamau: encounter in the room above.
2. Ricki: double move upstairs.
Kamau: still under attack/in distress/whatsoever
3. Kamau: still the same.
Ricki: can start to act now.
I do not like that. (Am I too anxious or just cautious?) –
Ricki should finally find and use that button in the miter for switching between single and sustained fire.
Opening a chest counts as an action. When we found multiple chests, we got one each turn.
xD Side quest: kill all the spiders, gain fly’s trust, get a companion: flyguy, which has a special ability of being able, from the distance of up to 1km, to detect all poos.
aaw people, that was a joke, haven’t you heard Depp’s trial finally ended? (–‘)
What about the skeletons? Should we go down there and kill the ones that have emerged?
Maybe Ricki should use the lens on the crow to see if she can one-shot it with a thrown dagger. Otherwise, we might need the bow and arrows. There is also the risk of a wounded crow flying away with the keys.
