Dungeon 17 Turn 5
————

Ricki and Mac quickly runs past the grimoirm in this room. Ricki throws the Encyclopedia Apocrypha: Reunexpurgated Edition as they pass, hoping to distract the paper-eating creature. Since they didn’t engage it in combat, this seems to work! The grimoirm eats the book in three bites and… dies. In horrible agony, it looks like. Ricki feels kind of bad.
The skeletons on the ground floor split their attacks uselessly and deal no damage, giving Mac enough time to struggle through the green-covered books and learn more or less the same information Ricki did previously.
Macadamia has gained the Well Read I ability.

It’s probably the blue books we have to read next. That doorway had red symbols on it, so you probably need to get red to go through it, which makes sense if it’s the last book. There’s probably some boss on the other side, which isn’t impossible to beat with one character but ideally you want both to get through. Another thing that makes me suspect blue is next is that we have a red and green right next to each other. Using game logic, that’s too easy. It must surely be that you’re supposed to get blue then backtrack to red.
Also Mac does have the Dig ability, so he can potentially Dig to that one blue book. (I haven’t contributed to this game in a while, sorry guys)
I don’t think dig works through room walls, but Ricki does have chameleon gloves we can use
Dig was clarified to NOT work on the walls that separate rooms. It works only on the walls within the room. Can’t open a new passage between rooms with Dig, at least not at this level of Dig.
However, in the top-left room, there’s a blue book over the skeletons’ heads. We can use Dig to make a hole in the floor there and get to the book. Idk if/how they can later get back up. Maybe they will need to go down via skeletons. But that’s kinda positive, since after blue book we’ll want to get to the first room for the red book there.
Then, we can go to the lower-right room, to the blue book guarded by the bookworm. If the bookworm detects and disenchant items carried, we could have simply drop tasty enchanted items by the red door, go to the bookworm, read the blue book, so the other person gets Reading-L2, and then get back down for the items.
Or even better, IF the trick with running-almost-naked-through-bookworm works, we can repeat that stunt, and after reading blue-book here, that person could immediately go to top-left room and run past worm and read red book.
…..or not. Damage from the bookworm, plus red+green books in the room above, plus two kobold skellies, will certainly be too much. Especially after dropping items. So after naked-stunt and reading blue book, we have to go left then up. Due to taxi metric, it’s actually the same distance (I first suggested up-then-left, hard route, 2 mov, and now I say left-then-up, safe route, still 2 mov).
Safer route takes running past green book only, since we can’t get to the top-left red book all in one round (after reading blue book here), we also can attack the green book in the starting room to test how that goes, and make passage safer
Not there anymore, unfortunately – Mac turned it to dust two turns ago.
Plan: go blue.
Ricki: point out the trap door above to Mac. Avoid it and go left. Use chameleon gloves to climb to blue book.
Mac: go up the ladder and hop over the trap door. Throw the shock tail at the floating green book by hole.
There’s good logic saying our next book color is blue and I don’t want to waste turns trying to hit a flying blue book to confirm. This gets Ricki in place to read blue next turn and Mac maybe gets a scroll if he hits. We’re risking maybe 1-2 dmg on Mac which we can heal.
I don’t want to go down as I am unsure if those2 flying books nearby would attack. That risks 5-6 on Mac if we get unlucky.
Actually, both Ricky and Mac could go up&left, Mac could spend his action to dig a hole in the floor, Ricky could hop into that hole and spend her action to read the book.
This has following effects:
Actually, I just noticed the to red books by the red door. They make “run naked to lower-right blue book” very risky (I proposed it in the other comment)…. The longer I think about it, the more I’m convinced that we should do something else
Also, I’m worried that attackng this green book may count as making noise and that it will wake up precious easily accesible red book here.
I think we should do this test, but Mac should instead throw the shocktail at green-book in the room where Ricky reads the blue book. But not before she reads it. Also, Ricky should drop/give him one gold-ring-of-aggression so they both have enough ATK to one-hit-kill a book. I think right now Mac is 1atk short on that (because, heck, can’t trust 20% chance too much, right?)
Both Mac and Ricki can one shot the books right now. Mac does 8 at ranged.
Both skeletons and books attacking us didn’t cause noise so I’m not worried.
What I am worried about is 2 skellies attacking before we leave and 2 books hitting us. That’s 14 incoming dmg which would hurt
We still have some running around, and to make the best use of our 2 mov, we should do some small cleanups. Otherwise we can’t risk i.e. running past skellies and bookworm and books in one turn and have to pause or go longer route.T6: Ricky and Mac attack skellies in this room, to reduce running-through damage in this room, books will not join the fight (skellies attacked us already, books are idle)EDIT: nah, ignore that. We gain nothing, and we just delay reading blue book. We can kill them anytime later as we move through this room next time.
Just a reminder that we have a decent amount of time to complete. We’re already 1/3 done and have the place scouted. No enemy groups are too big and as long as we dont run past multiple groups we risk maybe 1-2 dmg. Mac has until T15 before he’s only at 1 hp
And that’s why I’m worried sick that it went/it goes all too easy and there’s so far next to none “gotchas”. I totally expect that the “learn to read” part is just quick intro subquest, while the actual part is getting the door open and getting through the room puzzle we find inside, or the boss inside. I just hope that if I’m right about the “next part of the dungeon, when we the airtight red door, gust of fresh air blows the sick air out, and we get some extra turns (but surely we won’t get lost max-hp back)
The surprises we’ve had so far is that chests spawn (and use up books) and those Bookworms disenchant our items. Also, the books have a very high dodge chance that can eat up turns.
Lara’s dungeon was only 10 turns and based on the time limit we have, we’ll probably be at the red gate around the same time
Thought I’d share a few ideas I have. Looking for feedback.
Next turn Ricki can read Blue.
Turn after, If Mac gets a scroll from killing book, can use it to maybe distract bookworm up top so Ricki can read Red. Everyone back to the starting room.
After that, I’m thinking Mac Reads blue in the gate room while Ricki attacks the 2 red books.
After that, Mac uses Dig to make a path to the hole. Ricki still attacks.
Mac then can go read red or re-enchant something if the bookworm disenchanted something.
I estimate all this would take 6-7 turns. Still lots of time. Only unknown is the book’s stupid dodge chance.
This seems like it should work. As long as Ricki’s Well Read level is higher than Mac’s, the books will probably leave Mac alone
lmfao bro died to fake news
Wonder if LSN did a failure roll like he would if a character was using the book, and the worm got unlucky? Or maybe the book was just too big
Hmm. As far as I know (going by KingMarth’s enemies list), an unarmed reinforced skeleton does 2 damage. So they couldn’t have hurt us even if they’d both attacked Mac – right?
Mac’s inventory is still showing the Midas gloves he used up last turn.
