Dungeon 17 Turn 12
————

Ricki returns to Mac’s side through the small tunnel, and they both return together to the top left room. Ricki then runs past the group of kobold skeletons and opens the chest they guard, taking no damage and finding another pair of enchantment scrolls; a deadly one and another new one, blinding. She’s pretty sure she has all the magic elements now, excluding life, which wouldn’t be much use on a weapon. She backs away from the chest so the skeletons don’t keep slapping at her.
Macadamia smifs the ancient armour with his newly-unsmifed gold ring, restoring his gold ring of protection. He then jumps down the ladder instead of climbing it, because it’s fun and cool.

In the lower room, Mac coughs up some more book dust. Ricki also does so, elsewhere. They both lose another 1 max HP.

Plan: Worm
Ricki: Move down, avoid trap rung. Go to right ladder while the book is engaged with Mac. Point floor trap(after avoiding it yourself), drop both scroll down ladder so it lands with the others then go attack worm with gland boost (16-17 atk)
Mac: After Ricki walked past you, go drop your ring down the right ladderi(avoiding floor trap) so it lands with the other. Then join Rick by throwing floor shocktail at worm(keep it if it regrew on in your hands). (7)
Intent is to let book continue on Mac(he dont need def ring to tank just the book) while worm ignores him so nobody takes damage. Except the worm, it takes massive 19-20 damage.
Mac is fully literate and already engaged with the book while Ricki ignore their fight on her way to worm. Then Mac has zero disenchantable items when attacking worm while Ricki’s items get its focus.
Ricki drop scrolls for now cuz worm hit harder when you hold them.
Neither Mac nor Ricki can tank a hit from both the book and the worm.
All we know is that books target most read character. If neither Mac nor Ricki attack the book then it may just be a 50/50 chance on who it targets which will kill Ricki..
We still have time. Let’s wait a turn to be safe.
I think it will continue if already in a fight with someone but yeah not 100% sure.
At least Ricki has dodge so its less than 25% even if I’m wrong.
Other thing to note is worm gets bonus against Ricki since she has scrolls. May make a difference soons
Editing to drop the scrolls cuz she would take 1 damage otherwise.
Thanks for the reminder!!
Actually, it’s not 50/50. It’s 50-50 for the book’s choice whom to attack, and then there’s Ricky 30% evasion for the (possible, 50%) attack from the book, and 30% evasion from (possible, undecided) attack from the worm.
I consider attack-from-worm as uncertain, because there is a chance that the worm is stupid enough to prefer eating an item from the ground instead of attacking Ricky.
This makes that plan much less risky than 50-50 coin toss, but still I’d prefer to play it safe(r) way.
Bookworm description says it is wise…
Aww man, that deadly would have been sweet to glue for deadliest shocktail 🙁
Oh well, can’t help us right now anyway
Worm Stat Tracker:
25 hp
This turn: 7 atk and 3 def
Ate enchant so got buffed at the end of the turn.
Next turn(13) it fights at 8 atk and 4 def
If it manage to disenchant again, will fight at 9 atk and 5 def on turn 14.
Edit: dropping gold ring
Plan: no assumptions. Play it safe.
Mac:avoid the pressure plate. Drop you gold ring into the pile from above and keep as much distance from the bookworm as you can as you move to the right room (jump off the ladder to the side halfway down if you need to). Open the last chest and end your turn on the bottom floor
Ricki: move down. Avoid ladder wrung trap and point out the pressure plate trap to Mac. Use wand of healing and end turn on the right most ladder out of sight from the book.
This delays us a turn, but we take no chances of a book and worm game over.
Mac’s ring is the juiciest thing left for the worm in this plan. I think he should be ok if he jumps off the ladder but “should be ok” kinda kills the intention of a safe plan.
I think Mac will have to stay with Ricki if we want an actual safe plan. Maybe think about the red gate or something to fish for info? He is well read now unlike when he first saw it.
But I’m really worried about dawdling. We are already at the point where LSN is throwing unannounced patrols at us and worm dies on turn 15 at best with this plan and Mac will be at ONE max hp.
And we still have the gate, maybe a new room behind it, and whatever else LSN throw at us. First worm patrol was 10, 15 could have another worm, or even 2!
Is overstaying really the safe idea?
> Is overstaying really the safe idea?
well, no. For that matter I suggest turning Mac’s actions around: go to the right room, then inspect the door and see if there is some hint or writing on it, then if actions allow, loot the chest and get into position.
The hard timer is our max hp. I am wondering if maybe opening x chests (by making noise) is what cause worm to appear. Regardless, staying 1 turn later doesn’t make much difference.
