Dungeon 14 Turn 23
————
While Kamau drinks a potion of healing (recovering 5 HP) in preparation to fight a giant dinosaur, Botanya runs forward to try and get a look at it through her magic lens. However, she doesn’t reach it before it leaves the room of its own volition. That thing’s fast!
After picking up a whole bunch of stuff in the other rooms, Macadamia leaves Paws to guard the pile of treasure and passes through the entrance room on his way to the lower level.
Nothing new to see here.
Ricki returns to the freed kobolds to lead them one step closer to their salvation. As she does, she witnesses the tyrant lizard king pass by overhead, stepping deftly over a trap trigger and ignoring the tamers and rider.
She laments that her party of heroes lacks a suitably knowledgeable teammate that could reveal all there is to know about this terrible lizard, thus properly informing her as to the likelihood of survival in combat against it. If only she would think to ask the beautiful dwarven maiden whose company she recently—
“Hang on, what did you just mutter to yourself? Are you saying you know something about that big monster?”
“Welllll…”
“Can you tell me?”
“But I don’t want to spoil anything!”
“SPOIL IT PLEASE.”
“Okay, okay, just this once.”
“And any other time you ask if you let me join your party and be your friend and live in your house.”
Ricki and the beautiful dwarven maiden return to the previous room. Ricki then uses her Case ability on Paws.

TYRANT LIZARD KING
HP: 50
Atk: 15
Def: 5
Mov: 3
Ability: attacks deal a minimum of 5 damage to primary target regardless of reductions or evasion, attacks deal 1 unblockable damage to enemies near primary target, invulnerable to all damage types including unblockable
Drops: 1 Tyrant Blade
An incredibly powerful creature with a hide that cannot be pierced and teeth that can pierce anything. If it suspects prey has entered its territory, it patrols relentlessly until it is found. However, it is known to stop what its doing and come running if it suspects its offspring are in danger. Even the sturdiest obstacles cannot stand in its way if it seeks to protect its young.
There’s one week left for a fundraiser I started on my Ko-Fi page. I already drew a special crossover Dungeon Eyes panel for it, and for just another $120 by the end of next Thursday, I’ll also draw a Will Save World for Gold comic! Check it out: https://ko-fi.com/lonestarnorth
Absolutely called that is what would happen if we cased Paws.
Still funny though.
Also if he’s immune to all damage, including unblockable, not quite sure what we can do. Maybe the tyrant fangs are super extra unblockable?
Well, if you have a fight that you can’t possibly win – which is kinda the point here – “what you can do” is “avoid getting into that fight in the first place”. LSN’s pretty much spelled out how to do that, with what’s probably the clearest hint I’ve seen him give in the entire comic so far. Must be the season. 🙂
Lots of things to unpack here:
Kings movement is at least 2… and he doesn’t have to explore each room first before being able to move on.
We do not know if his patrol is random or a set pattern.
He’s immune to everything. So there’s probably a way to switch that off somewhere in this dungeon. My theory is whatever they’re using to infuse elements to the eggs, it can be reversed.
Also, Sue’s ability seems to be free magic lenses. Not bad
Well, I guess we’ll disrupt the source of the elemental reptiles then.
If the source is tied to the nest behind the reinforced door, we’ll need to release the baby and let it go unharmed. King can get from the entrance to the trap floor area (where we are planning on tying the rope) in one turn if it uses its action to move. If we harm the baby, King will hunt us down, corraling us in the nest’s dead end.
We need to check the upper levels, but that might leave Mac stuck in the lower levels, because we need him to use the horn to keep King away from the ladder room.
So, I know I’m frequently negative, but…
How realistic is winning, do you guys think? I would really like to win, but I don’t know if it’s going to be feasible.
Operation: Ricki and Kamau do the dungeon while the unlikely duo conspire to feed the tyrant a bomb.
–
Ricki: Head right. Lens the Death Tamer above you. Head left. Head left again, escorting the group of Kobolds to the entrance.
Kamau: Ask the Kobolds if they have any information about that Tyrant King. Head right.
Botanya: Head right. Try to attach the rope on the ground to the bomb’s wic to add a custom timer or something.
Mac: Return to Paws. Sell your 8 smiffed copper rings and 2 shields, as well as everything on Golly. With your stack of 80 gold, spend 45 to buy 3 gold rings, 30 gp on 15 raw meat and 2 gp on a torch. Think of ways you could disguise Botanya’s bomb with the raw meat.
–
This things hide cant be pierced, so we blow it up from the inside.
This cannot possibly go wrong.
Bomb needs to be detonated with fire and doesn’t deal 50 damage.
Edited for Mac to buy a torch.
Also shut up pbbbbt
I like the plan, but I don’t get why Mac is buying 3 gold rings at a marked up price that he can’t smiff now. And I think we need to buy another rope to make the short cut in the room where the kobolds were imprisoned (best place to feed the bomb, btw).
And also, we should clarify that Ricki is casing the tamer she didn’t case on turn 4. If the tamer also has heavy bolts, those guys can deal around 21~23 damage together (by my estimation, could be wrong). Kamau can tank that with the heavy shiled + Botanya’s def rings (or roll the dice with the evasion + higher defense from the shield) with minimal to no damage. We need to case that tamer to make sure they don’t have a horn.
Mac can use the horn on the next couple of turns, when we are ready to engage the tamers + rider and are aware of where the hell King is. When the rest of the party climbs to the upper levels, Mac can make the bomb and drop it.
That’s how I picture the whole thing going forward.
Gold rings aren’t marked up in price.
I think it’s safe to assume the 2nd tamer has heavy bolts and does not have a horn. All the other horns were held by solo tamers surrounded by miners. This is a different type of squad.
Death Squad damage I think is
Crossbow 3 + Heavy Bolt 2
Crossbow 3 + Heavy Bolt 2
Rider 3 + Greataxe 4~6
So 17-18 damage. Kamau has 15 Def while holding the Corona, so even in the 6% chance they all hit him through his dodge, it’s not like he’s doing too bad. Especially since we have so, so many heals.
Was gonna edit again to buy 1 less meat to buy a 2nd rope, but Claud has basically that plan below.
Plan: Prep. Nothing crazy yet
Ricki: Head right. Lens the Death Tamer above you. Head left. Head left again, escorting the group of Kobolds to the entrance.
Kamau: Ask the Kobolds if they have any information about that Tyrant King. Head right (upper).
Botanya: Head right. Pick up Wand of Heal and the Midas Gloves.
Mac: Move up. Move Right. Sell your 8 smiffed copper rings and 2 shields, as well as everything on Golly. With your stack of 80 gold, spend 45 to buy 3 gold rings, 18 gp on 9 raw meat and 14 on 2 ropes. Pack the meat and rope on Golly for now.
No commitments to any Bomb/eating plans just yet. we need to focus on scouting and seeing what else may help us deal with King
Rope may help us create shortcuts around King, and Meat as another way to keep king distracted. I do suspect that he would eat all the meat in one go so we’d have to drop it down one at a time.
Gold rings are to transform our wealth into something easier to carry out.
… poison?
…can we sell Sue to Paws?
She’s free magic lenses. Would probably fetch a good price.
Congrats, this is a new level of depravity beyond anything we’ve done so far
