Dungeon 12 Turn 19
————
Ricki and Lara easily defeat the two skull crabs, while Cordy provides long range assistance and raises a new mushroom from the body (they can keep it or give it to Lara).
It seems the crabs are fairly sturdy for their size, but they are nonetheless very small. After revealing themselves, it’s also a lot easier to avoid their claws. Since Ricki and Lara have air nearby and the water has been cleansed, they take no damage. Also, one of the crabs drops some meat! Lara takes it.
Amadeusz descends to the room below and uses his magic lens on one of the fish. The mystery of their damage formula is finally revealed!!
Amadeusz also takes 1 damage from drowning.
————
SKELETAL SWARMFISH
HP: 2
Atk: 2
Def: 1
Ability: immune to poison damage, targets take +1 damage for every Skeletal Swarmfish in the area past the 3rd, aquatic
While ordinary swarmfish only exhibit their infamous feeding frenzies when truly starved, these undead versions do so at all times despite obviously having no reason to feed at all. Like many undead they mindlessly attack whatever comes close, with the exception of other undead. The more swarmfish in an area, the more viciously they attack, so if they can’t be avoided their numbers should be reduced quickly.
Plan: engage now
Cordy: swim down and spore touch fish 1
Lara: swim down and kill fish 2
Amad: attack fish 3
Ricki: swim down and attack fish 4
Amad mushy: attack fish 5
All fish but one dies. Each char is taking 4 incoming + poison water which is tankable (cause Cordy has a coin).
All take one drowning as well.
Next turn: Ricki kill barricade, Lara kills puffers. Amad kills fish and Cordy checks pet room for changes.
Problem is we don’t know if t20 is going to make pet room poison again, or just increase the dmg, or both, or something else entirely. Which leads to the other plan…
I am open to other downtime actions. This is just what I could think of that would be useful
NOOOO! Our CURRENT planning IS for t20! That means this kills almost everyone if the source respawn!
And even if not, you’re not accounting for underwater debuff AND poison water is increasing t20 (it was 3 before t10 and became 4 on t10) so we will take massive damage!
Let’s hope the Discord server is able to settle this post-haste.

We’ll that’s a bit suspicious…
Firstly, if source respawns, it would be at end of turn. So there is no risk of accidently taking 2 rooms of dmg. If room dmg does go up, it would also occur after the battle.
Fish do 4dmg and room does 4 approx. Including def penalty, each char would need 9 def to avoid dmg.
Lara is fine.
Ricki has 9 def and dodge
Amad has 8 so may take 1 from fish. 1 from mushy
Cordy has a coin
The riskiest thing is amad taking 3 from all sources but he has a potion he can drink
Noo we know timer events happen at start of turn. Like, on t10, it was already doing 4

And Ricki has only 8 def, not 9.
And it is a waste to have amad drink potion when he can eat meat for more. The potion can help someone else, only amad can eat meat
Turn actions are simultaneous, roughly. If a source respawns or damage goes up, it will affect turn 20 totals.
Plan: wait and see
Cordy: grab a coin. Return and get out of the water
Amad: drink potion.
Ricki: trade harpoon to Lara
Lara: accept trade
Main thing is seeing if a source respawns and if it does, we kill next turn
Also gets harpoon on Lara since Lara may need to fight in clean water and he’ll need some more def.
I’m reasonably sure there’s at least one more hermit crab, based on the fact that one of the skulls has changed orientation. I think grabbing the coin will activate it.
I checked both pages and the one that looks like it moved is actually the second from last one. the crabs were both the skulls looking right
Can confirm, the skulls facing left haven’t moved,so they are empty.
Also, in this room with huge skeleton, we may have ~2 crabs near the tunnel entrance.
but if I’m worried correctly, it may be up to 4 crabs. I don’t see why crabs would have to be ‘oriented’. Skull is skull. We saw monsters idling and looking left or right. I wouldn’t assume that only left/right-facing skulls are crabs. But I would assume that they all would wake up and attack together, just like all smelly turnips in a spot exploded at the same time.
I’m going to assume that they’re only triggered by being stepped on,so if we stick to the barricade itself,we’ll be okay.We might get hurt if we pick up that harpoon.
I wonder if Wolf counts as a carnivorous beast, and therefore can eat meat?
I thought the same thing,& made sure to add it to my comment.
I also wonder if we can convince Petmaster that wereAmy is a pet,for the purposes of fighting him(we might get a pet with Poison Use one day)
Yeah, it might be usable by wolf-Ama..
but also, we’ve got piranhas, right? they are skeletons, but may still be lured by meat/blood – and if we THROW the meat, they might follow, and MAY stay where it landed even once it’s consumed. They are not intelligent, so why would they want to return to their starting place/etc. I think that after meat is ‘consumed’ they’d just linger where they ended up.
of course, they might be fast enough to catch the meat that flies/floats by them and just stay in the same place and just be busy for a turn or two. either way, could be an option to consider.
I didn’t think about that, mostly because the Dire Wolf is the only creature to be described by the Enemy List as “distractable by meat”.
I went to a seafood place and ordered the special. The meal came and it was tepid at best. I complained to the waiter, I said “This fish isn’t hot.”
“Well sir, of course not,” he said. “This fish isn’t meant to be eaten hot.”
“Well what kind of fish is it?”
“S’warmfish.”
Anyway, let’s try to befriend the beavers and politely ask them to take down their dams, especially since that one under water doesn’t appear to be serving any actual purpose.
HAH.
Although, now that you bring beavers… I wonder if we can take on Petmaster with 4 minishrooms.Maybe convince him that wereAmy is our pet…
if all our minishroom gathered around the petmaster, and started circling, dancing, and chanting, he might fall asleep and fall into the water and drown..
Wait. Is Jigglypuff a mushroom?
There IS a type of fungus with “puff” in its name, but Jiglypuff is 100% a non-flora Cartoon Creature.Que was likely just joking.
For healing:Cordy can absorb another minion, while Lara can drop meat for wereAmy (assuminh that,as a big wolf, the meat doesn’t have to be cooked)
For fish:Send a minishroom forward to distract, then all 4 gang up & defeat their targeted fish.
For the small gap & chedt beyond:Ricki heads through with a helm & healing potion, while Cordy keeps sending minions her way (assuming a Partymember has to merely be on the same screen to receive a minishroom minion).
For barnacle: Amy turns back & uses Dirge to kill the blowfish from range. If they’re still alive, use Sting wand & throw a harpoon.
Objections,anyone?
Wow,I’m just constantly getting dislikes…
“so if they can’t be avoided their numbers should be reduced quickly.”
I think it may be a hint that their numbers GROW over time unless whole group is completely defeated/etc
Otherwise, what would be the point of ‘clearing quickly’ if their numbers stayed the same?
If you kill one at a time, you have to deal with their bonus over many turns, taking a lot of damage. If you kill 3 at once, suddenly the bonus is gone.
Amadeusz can instantly kill most of the enemies in this room if he uses the Hurtful Dirge twice. Just sayin’
Ama/Dirge: every LIVING enemy creature
puffs, crabs – maybe. but not the piranhas. I doubt it makes it ‘most’.
My suggestion was for Amy to use it against the blowfish, that way they can be killed from a distance.Sure, the skeletitan will survive, but he can be avoided by swimming above him (I hope).
Blowfish have 5 HP and dirge only does 1 each time. We can kill them unless they were already hurt

Plan: Setup safe fight, maybe get us a PET EGG.
Poison water likely grows to 5 per room next turn. With the fish hitting for 4 minimum and underwater debuff, we would need 10 defense to be safe.
So everyone except Lara needs a wish coin.
We also need this room to start poison-free so Lara is patrolling for turn 20 spawning sources. In case it does spawn and can only be removed the turn after, she has a fallback action and we are dropping items to setup useful actions to do while Lara removes it.
Cordy already has a wish coin and a 2nd one would only be wasted. Credits to Darus Mul for pet trade idea.
Lara: Pluck any poison source that sprouts in the room, then loot a coin. Drop your meat(only Amad can eat) on dry land.
Amad: Loot a coin. Drop your potion(let someone else drink it since he can eat meat) near Lara’s meat.
Ricki: Loot a coin.
Cordy: Offer to POKE PET TRADE an EXCLUSIVE(only Cordy can make them) and OUT OF THIS WORLD(Cordy came from space) PET to the PET MASTER!!
Can HE get such a rare PET elsewhere?
I THINK NOT!!
(Trade the newly spawned mushie if he agrees, send it to Lara otherwise. Ask for a PET EGG in return)
(Do NOT touch poison water to preserve your wish coin for next turn)
Has it only been going down locally, not globally per poison source cleared?
We have a couple of theories that might explain the math discrepancies:
Room damage is based on proximity to a source
Room damage does a variable range of damage ex. 4-5. Similar to how poison enemies do damage.
In either case, it makes predicting incoming damage difficult, but as long as we make sure no one is close to death, we can lose a few hp for now
Destroying the lone source did not reduce poison damage in the lower rooms. Like, Cordy at 6 def needed their poison res potion to not take damage on t14.
And poison water did way more than 1 damage to Amad on t12 so I don’t think it’s related to sources being connected.
