Dungeon 12 Turn 13
————
Amadeusz claws at what appears to be an egg sack of some kind. It bursts open, leaking concentrated poison that deals 1 unblockable poison damage in a small area. The fish are unaffected, but Amadeusz is not. Fortunately he manages to resist all other damage he takes from starting his turn in the bad water and from being chewed on.
The water nearby has cleared up a bit! Itβs still not exactly clean, but it should no longer deal damage to those swimming in it. However, this probably didnβt fix the water everywhere, so thereβs more work to do.
Meanwhile, Ricki uses one of her lockpicks to open the chest nearby (and throws the picks away). She finds a pair of gauntlets and a matching pair of greaves. These look pretty similar to a set her party found before, but enhanced in some way. They might come in handy.
Ricki and Amadeusz both get out of the water and climb down the ladder to the room below.
Lara and Cordy move to the middle of the well and attack the two blowfish floating there. Lara deals heavy damage to one of them, while her mushroom sacrifices itself by leaping onto the other fishβs spines and blows up. The mushplosion is enough to finish the first blowfish, which in turn explodes and kills the other fish, which also explodes. A lot of living things explode, is the takeaway. Also the path down is now clear, at least as far as Lara or Cordy can see. Two new mushrooms spawn out of the nonsense.
Cordy takes 1 damage from drowning. Lara takes 2 from the blowfishβs attack and from being poked with its spines, but eats oxymoss to avoid drowning.

Nice guys! We should definitely keep destroying the egg sacks with melee and not look into using ranged attacks on them. And I’m certain that the color of the water being the same color as the mystery chest is totally irrelevant so let’s not worry about that.
Is this supposed to be reverse psychology?
Have you read his name?
Whatever else we do, might want to have Cordy eat one of his friends. Both for HP recovery and so he has space for the next mushroom he makes.
I’m also wondering if we could use the venom sting to burst the egg sac from a distance?
Wait… Normally if all pet slots are full and we get a new pet, it teleports home. We can’t do that with Cordy’s shrooms, can we? That seems like it would be obscenely overpowered.
YES!I was going to suggest those things awell(eventually)!
Cordy should be able to do that in order.
Kill something to make a new mushie
Eat mushie and assign newmushie to self.
So no need to pre-eat.
Also interesting items!
If you’re wearing both then it takes 2 armor slots, for:
– 49% chance of doing no additional damage
– 42% chance of doing +2 damage
– 9% chance of doing +4 damage
Also also: is the puzzle chest open, or do we need to clean the water further in some way (like clearing the remaining skelliefish)?
Puzzle chest isnβt open yet. I think the lock visibly changes when it does. And itβs likely from doing something with water but Iβm sure discord is already on it.
If I remember well, when puzzle chest opened, guys present in the room heard a ‘click’
I was going to suggest Coccyx wears the gauntlets if we bring him,so yay!Alternatively we CAN sell those 2,since we still need income for upgrades…
Can we recuperate somewhere?Maybe at the bucket-attached-to-the-rope?Have the party eat some minishrooms & exchange oxymoss, then we kill the next sac/barnacle with RANGED ATTACKS with Harpoon & Sting.Rushing ahead won’t help us,even with a time limit.
Also,how come Ricki’s “Case” ability isn’t there?
We used it on the puzzle chest. We can still use it on enemies, but not chests.
How come?Who called it?
It was on the page you mentioned examining the chest. Most people agreed that wasn’t worth wasting an action on, but it was worth trying the Case action instead to see how worthwhile the puzzle was.
Hold on,what?I just went back to the page & I have no idea what made you think that. Why?I never said to use the ABILITY,but to _inspect it_ …with REGULAR eyes. The way Kamau did (or tried to) in the Tavern Basement.
Did we atleast figure out what the puzzle was?
Yes, you suggested that, but your plan got a net total of 8 downvotes. Claudious suggested using Case on the chest, which netted 10 upvotes. The plan with the most votes wins.

Grit is on the table still. I think that’s the plan soon perhaps once we scout a bit more.
Ah yeah. That would cost us a turn but be very worth it.
Well,I assume the well is like 6-7 levels maximum, since it IS a well.If this was a normal dungeon with normal enemies,we would’ve leared it by now. However, dumb decisions + poison + drowning slowed us down by a few turns.
Combination of ideas from several people on discord into one plan:
We get Cordy out of low hp and scout a new room.
Egg sac idea is that it will burst open and hurt the pufferfish, causing it to “lash out randomly”. That in turn hurt and aggravate the nearby fish that will then turn on it. I added the part about Lara’s shroom just in case that doesn’t work.
Cordy: Head right, eat a Mushy.
Amadeusz: Mend Cordy.
Lara: Head left. Throw Harpoon at the egg sac from max range.
Lara’s Shroom: Punch the Blowfish if it comes near Lara.
Ricki: Head left and down to scout.
What this guy said!
“Sick”‘s plan is a close 2nd!
Not disagreeing with this plan, but I will point out that the spear is likely to fall to the next screen.
I’m suddenly worried the Poison Water is still 4 damage per room. Think we could add a conditional to Ricki, something like
Ricki: Head left. Use your action to think about whether or not this poison water seems more or less potent than before. If less, move down to scout, otherwise stay there.
Because if Poison Water really is still 4, Ricki is going to lose 4 hp by moving 3 rooms.
Poison water is probably still 4, given that the little area was lower poison damage. Thank you for pointing that out!
Ricki: Head left, then left again. Throw your Harpoon at the Polyp.
Cordy: Head left. Circle around to the bottom of the room and loot the chest. End turn across from the Petmaster if possible.
Lara: Stand just outside the explosion range of the Poison Source thing. Stab an enemy if they come near you, prioritizing Blowfish.
Lara’s Shroom: Punch the Blowfish if it comes near Lara. (Possibly distract it)
Amadeusz: Head left, then Action move down to scout.

More aggressive alternative. Kills the blowfish, destroys the Poison Source, scouts a room and loots a chest. Ricki will drown for a damage, Lara takes 1-2 unblockable damage depending on who the Blowfish targets with its attack. Cordy should be ok. Even if he somehow is caught in the Blowfish’s explosion he has increased Poison Defense and he’s ending his turn above water. Amadeusz will drop for a point, which sucks but he can join all of us in the Pet Master room next turn.
I’m concerned that trying to make it to the Pet Master alcove will result in the fish group attacking. With Lara outside of melee range, that would be everyone piling on Cordy.
We’ve been getting burned a bit too much when we try to rush. I’m voting slow and steady
We CAN still get through this, right? We’ve made dumber decisions & lived,we’ve been low on HP before,we took down scarier mooks. This IS stillbpossible with some elbow grease, right?
to me, it sounds a bit like “I make bad decisions”
we were surprised by sudden attack
we were surprised by baatles throwing mushies
now, we get into trying to get a chain reaction do exactly what we want
… srsly?
Hey,I wasn’t around when Lara almost drowned,I don’t get blame for THAT one.My plan was to clear (part of) a room while Ricki peeks around from just the edge of a screen.I don’t know what the Discord side of the audience decided on…
EDIT:Also,I reiterate,I joined after the Outpost was cleared/Amy’s 1st LVL-up,so I don’t know how dire the situation is compared to the past.
Updating the people here with new discord talks:
We thought the poison went to 2 because a mistake from LSN told us we only had just enough damage to kill the puffers.
We are now worried about the puffers being a special case or something and poison is still at 4.
They also informed me we will get a special reward for killing all the monsters in a dungeon so posting this alternative with all that in mind.
Cordy: Eat a Mushy, head down to scout.
Lara: Head left. Throw Harpoon at the egg sac from max range.
Laraβs Shroom: Punch the Blowfish if it comes near Lara.
Ricki: Kill a skelly.
Amadeusz: Kill a skelly.
Killing all the monsters will probably be very difficult, but if we can swing it that would be great.
Biggest problem is that only Ricki can get into that ghoul/frog room, so we would have to fast-track her there with lots of buffs/weapons and hope she can both avoid getting stun locked and kill the frog before it swallows her.
I have my doubt about ghoul room too, but Claude calculated it and “with her 40% dodge, the math works out to Ricki soloing the ghouls in 7 turns on average if ghouls paralysis is 75% each. And even less if the ghouls waste their turn killing her mushroom”.
I’m not smart enough to check their work. >.<
The frog doesn’t worry me. Being eaten only “prevent escape and inflict -2 Atk and Def” so Ricki can cut it open from the inside just fine.
We could also potentially supplement the mushroom by having Cordy send her new ones each turn he can get a kill
> cut from inside
and we get an awesome pic again? π
achievement “Jonah”: be eaten/swallowed by every createure able to do so
I feel like Cordy would be most useful with killing the barnacles, with his resistance,Sting & minions
Huh…the comic hasn’t updated after a whole day?
It typically updates Monday through Friday, and takes weekends off. Usually around 12-3 and around 5-8 PST, I’ve noticed, though those aren’t hard rules.
By the way… “egg sacks”.. should we be a bit worried about their mom?
We should be worried about what happens if they hatch while we’re around.
