Dungeon 12 Turn 0
————
Ricki climbs down the rope and crosses into the dungeon. Standing on the bucket at the bottom of the rope’s length, she examines the noxious water just inches below her. Yep, that’s poisoned all right.
She thinks that even entering the water could cause harm, although obviously Lara would be highly resistant, and even some of the other party members might be able to tough it out. Still, it’s a very serious hazard not to be taken lightly, especially in theoretical situations where long stretches of water need to be crossed in one go.
Amadeusz and Cordy also cling to the rope, which serves as the only apparent exit from the dungeon. Lara stands sideways on the wall of the well, flaunting another of her clear advantages here. This might be a tough one, but Ricki’s ready to see what she can do.

Dungeon 12: The Poisoned Well
Goal: Eliminate all sources of poison that are affecting the water.
Time Limit: Every 10 turns, some of your progress may be undone. Also, you’re going to drown in poison.
This dungeon can be abandoned.
Everybody: Go Right to the next room.
We’re on a tight timer, and I think it’s clearly explained that we do not want people to go into the water for (almost) any reason. Seems like there’s only one clear option
I dunno, it seems pretty clear to me that we’re goning to *have* to go in the water, probably often. Lara is best suited.
OH SHIT,IT ALREADY STARTED WHILE I WAS SLEEPING!?
Wgat does LSN mean by “you’re going to drown in poison?!It dounds like it’s an automatic fsilure after 10 turns, with NO saving throw!
Plan: explore and learn the limits of the poison.
Ricki: swing the rope and jump to dry land. Listen to Amad then Explore right
Cordy: jump to dry land and venom sting a fish.
Lara: swim down and explore next room
Amadeusz: jump to dry land and explain the secondary objective you would suggest for the magic dungeon you want us to clear next, especially whether it involve any bombs.
Oh man if only we had someone immune to drowning, poison, undead and possibly being left behind at the bottom of the well
I feel you. He could also snipe fish safely from dry land.
That said, what’s done is done and we can’t change that now. No sense scratching at old wounds.
I’ve seen some questionable decisions, but this was easily the most questionable one by the group of all. But I guess that’s democracy for ya. Interestingly, I tried to upvote your comment and it actually downvoted it and I couldn’t undo it, so maybe a bug is in play?
Whatever. Anyways…
It’s interesting that the goal itself gets undone in this dungeon, which means defeating the new monsters that arrive is going to be a necessary component of beating the dungeon.
Also, the “you’re going to drown in poison” comment strikes me as odd because it’s so final sounding, but clearly we have more than 10 turns to survive this, or it wouldn’t say “every” 10 turns.
Theory 1: We have to clear away poison on one level to make the water on that level harmless and thus be able to descend through it, which gets re-poisoned, trapping us on the level below.
Theory 2: The poison saps away more health the more poisoned it is, and if we wait too long without purifying it, it can even basically insta-kill us.
All I can say is, while I’m annoyed we didn’t bring Coccyx, I’m relieved we didn’t bring Kamau. If there’s even a chance we have to swim through health sapping poison water, he would Remorse instantly.
Lara is going to be the star of the show here.
Yea,I was also worried by the finality of that statement.& I suggested Cyx & Lohk for a reason,1 is immune, the other can heal.
Hello, guy who suggested Coccyx here, thank you for remembering me.
Same plan as Claudious, with extra science from Discord talks that might not work but can’t hurt us and let us confirm things for sure. Also a little safety addition from me because I’m paranoid.
Ricki: swing the rope and jump to dry land. Boost Cordy to help him avoid the poison. Listen to Amad then Explore right
Cordy: Jump to dry land with Ricki’s help. Venom sting a fish. Move to the very right edge of the room. Then, move a room right.
Lara: Unequip sword, then swim down and explore next room. Then return to first room for air.
Amadeusz: jump to dry land and explain the secondary objective you would suggest for the magic dungeon you want us to clear next, especially whether it involve any bombs.
Cordy can’t attack and change rooms in the same turn.
Also, characters can’t move any further if they enter an unexplored room.
EVERYONE: Jump into the water and drink all the poison.
I apologise,do you by chance have a VERY MINOR case of…serious BRAIN DAMAGE?
Good call. I’ll amend my plan.
Everyone: Use blunt weapons on your own heads THEN jump in the water and drink the poison.
not really, read carefully his nickname pls 🙂
I’m going back through the Poisoned Well after we finished it and with the benefit of hindsight I’m trying to list what I think we probably should have done (at least for the first few Turns), with the goal of better understanding how to play since I’m a long-time reader of the webcomic but never really read the Comments or tried to participate in the play. I welcome Replies from the long-term players.
Turn 0: IMHO, Lara should not have moved down to the next room below until we had finished powering up Cordy with the 3 tiny mushrooms that he could get from this room (and/or the room to the right). This turn Lara should have distracted the skeletal fish and attacked the same one as Cordy made a ranged attack on with the Wand of Venomous Sting to produce a tiny mushroom pet. Lara and Cordy can either repeat this for the next two Turns to ‘harvest’ all 3 mushroom pets available here or go right to help the others if needed. The first tiny mushroom pet created should go to Lara to buff her Def against the water and the next 2 will go to Cordy or possibly to Ricki in the next room if she needs a boost (+1 Atk & Def from Fungal Family, and Lara and Ricki are Spoored so they can benefit while Amadeusz isn’t). Exploring down the well really didn’t help right now, cost a point of unblockable drowning damage, and encouraged a really bad choice later. Net difference for Turn 1: +1 tiny mushroom pet , -1 damage to Lara, room below remains a mystery for now, but we’re not in a position to deal with it yet anyway so it doesn’t really matter.
