Dungeon 11 Turn 32
————
Ricki finally gets around to throwing the lever nearby, but it’s kind of… floppy. It doesn’t feel like it’s activating anything. Maybe it’s broken?
She hurries to catch up with her party, nearly reaching them before they cross into the next room.
The boys arrive at the basement. In preparation for the next fight, Amadeusz converts his violin back into swords, while Macadamia heals Kamau up to 4 HP using the wand he carries.
Glad to see Kamau in safe numbers once more. Very nerve inducing.
Couple different options now.
Ricki: move down, unlock door with keys, point out traps to everyone (ladder rung, 2 mid floor pressure plates, 3 lower floor plates), move left to golem room)
Mac: go through hole, pick up tools, go back through hole and avoid traps while moving to left side exit.
Kamau: avoid traps mentioned above, equip shield, flip dog lever, move back up (avoid traps again) to left side exit with amad’s help
Amad: avoid traps mentioned, help Kamau get back up from dogs. Avoid traps again and move as close to left side exit as you can.
We can search beds later, but I want eyes on golem. We could rush in and attack, but it is possible something has changed so I’d prefer to peek first.
We’ve had trouble before with avoiding traps when Ricki isn’t there for the movement. Having Ricki move to golem room this turn while having everyone doing two-part movements seems like a high risk for a very, very small benefit.
For Ama helping Kamau, do you mean his Pack Leader ability? It says it works on all canines in the room, so Ama shouldn’t have to actively help. I’m concerned the phrasing here would have Ama wading into the dog pile and potentially getting damaged.
For that matter, are we sure the dogs won’t follow Kamau back to the squishies?
I think during the Tavern dungeon it was implied/shown that the Imperial guard-dogs can be surprisingly agile when they want to be, though I think a ladder might have been involved. The biggun won’t have any problems following though, I’m pretty sure, and it might be smart enough to act as a ladder for the others if it comes down to it.
For what it’s worth: I don’t think we need to worry too much about the levers if we’re trying to free that prisoner. I’m pretty sure he’s freed himself by now. I think achieving the secondary goal is pretty dicey at this point, so it might be better to just grab a new friend (if they’re still alive) and scoot with the stuff we’ve already got.
1.Turn 20: “the entire party is shaken by a sudden rumble from below. A few seconds later, a muffled boom echoes into the upper levels of the dungeon. It sounds like it came from the basement…”
Turn 32: “Ricki finally gets around to throwing the lever nearby, but it’s kind of… floppy. It doesn’t feel like it’s activating anything. Maybe it’s broken?”
I expect one of the doors in the very left room to be damaged.
2. If Ricki doesn’t keep reminding everyone of all the traps always, everyone will activate all of them. No movement next to traps without Ricki being present and pointing them out!
3. Macadamia is unable to pick up the tools: Box of parts: Weight 3. Free item space at Mac: 1. What Mac could do is this: Transfer the arrows (weight 1) from Golly into his own inventory and put the box into Golly’s packs, where they will occupy 1 item slot instead of weighting 3.
4. “move as close to left side exit”: The left side exit of the dungeon (in contrast to the exit over the battlements) was depicted in turn 0. Big characters would need to go up one room and then left, while small characters can go one room left and then use the rat hole (if the golem doesn’t interfere). But you did think about the left exit of the room, right? We better are specific here.
Ricki: Head down to the Basement and unlock the door with key #2. There’s a false ladder rung and on the next floor down there are 2 floor traps leading to the Dog Pen, point them out to your friends and Amadeusz. Once finished, avoid the traps and end your movement in the corridor heading to the next room to the left.
Macadamia: Take the arrows from Golly. Head through the hole to the left of the unlocked door. If the room you arrive in has a Box Of Parts grab them and put them on Golly. Head back through the hole. Once finished, avoid the ladder rung trap and end your movement in the corridor heading to the next room to the left.
Kamau: Head down the ladder and towards the dog pen, avoiding the false ladder and pressure plate traps. With your shield out, if you can, hit the lever behind the dogs. If you need a free hand to hit the lever, that’s fine too. Return to the edge of the dog pen and let Amadeusz help you out of it. Once finished, avoid the traps again and end your movement in the corridor heading to the next room to the left.
Amadeusz: Follow Kamau to the dog pen, avoiding traps along the way, but don’t go in with him. Use your Action to lift him back out once he has finished his business in there. Have a moment of comradery if there’s time. Once finished, avoid the traps again and end your movement in the corridor heading to the next room to the left.
–
We delay just one more turn before we slay the final Golem. The group of Dogs looks pretty scary, but with Kamau’s overinflated defense he should be fine. Even if he can’t hold his shield while hitting the lever, Amadeusz’s Pack Leader reduces that group’s Atk by a whopping 4. I think he’ll be fine.
I’m a little worried about the top lever seemingly doing nothing. but I don’t think its a situation where we have to hit every single lever to unlock all the cell doors. It’s possible the dwarf in the bottom left was experimenting with bomb-making and already blew his cell open. If that’s the case and he has already been squashed by the Golem, well, c’est la vie.
Slightly adapted plan of Claudious:
Ricki: Move down one room, unlock first door with keys, point out traps to everyone (ladder rung, 2 mid floor pressure plates, 3 lower floor plates).
Macadamia: Go upwards through the rat hole, transfer the arrows from Golly into your own inventory and put the box of parts into Golly’s packs. Go downwards through the rat hole to Ricki again. Avoid traps mentioned above.
Kamau: Avoid traps mentioned above, equip shield, flip dog lever, move back up with help from Amadeusz. Avoid traps again and move to the left exit of the room (without leaving).
Amadeusz: Avoid traps mentioned above, give Kamau a hand up from the platform to get back up from the dogs. Avoid traps again and move to the left exit of the room (without leaving).
Is there a reason to risk the lever, when the dogs might follow and damage people? The last level was floppy/broken.
It is a risk, but it has a reason:
There are three doors in the very left room of the basement.
There are three levers in the dungeon.
One lever might be connected to one door each.
There was an explosion in the basement (and people who are guessed to work with fire/explosives behind the doors).
One lever is not connected to a mechanism. If, in the past, the lever was connected to a door and the explosion damaged that door/the mechanism, then this would be an explanation.
It therefore could be hoped for the lever in the dog pit to open one (other) of the three doors.
I would not expect all three doors to either open or permanently get stuck on turn 20 without us knowing anything about that timer. But yes, if the dogs follow, we will have to deal with them first. By staying in the room, we should see whether they follow, and thus could separate the fights against the dogs and against the golem.
WARNING: For characters to avoid traps, Ricki must share an action with them in the same room the traps are on. The current plans will harm Maca/Golly.
New plan WITHOUT Mac-splatter on traps. Problem is Mac will be stranded in this room.
Ricki: move down, unlock door with keys, point out traps to everyone (ladder rung, 2 mid floor pressure plates, 3 lower floor plates), move left to golem room)
Mac: go through hole, pick up tools, go back through hole
Kamau: avoid traps mentioned above, equip shield, flip dog lever, move back up (avoid traps again) to left side exit with amad’s help
Amad: avoid traps mentioned, help Kamau get back up from dogs. Avoid traps again and move as close to left side exit as you can.
Attempt to avoid Mac-splatter on traps, not 100% guaranteed. (adapted from tem and claudious):
Ricki: Move down one room, unlock first door with keys, point out traps to everyone (ladder rung, 2 mid floor pressure plates, 3 lower floor plates).
Macadamia: Wait until Ricki points out the traps to you, then go upwards through the rat hole to your left, transfer the arrows from Golly into your own inventory and put the box of parts into Golly’s packs.
Golem option: when it’s dead, we have more freedom.
Kamau: Avoid traps mentioned above, move left. Attack golem with hilt.
Amadeusz: Avoid traps mentioned above, read dog note.
We can easily go back for dog lever after this, but we really need to see what is happening here.
