Dungeon 11 Turn 19
————
Ricki’s party enters the tower. She points out the pressure plate on the floor, as well as the false ladder rung, so they can both be avoided. Macadamia then opens up the nearby chest and finds a full helmet inside. He isn’t sure it looks great on him, but he likes the extra Def.
Kamau, Amadeusz, and Ricki read the three notes on the wall, in order from left to right.
“Be sure that someone is on hand in the basement when this lever is pulled. The contractor in that room has been acting suspicious. He may be planning an escape attempt. Possible sign of dungeon madness.”
“Note to self: stop leaving so many notes on the walls. Possible sign of”
…The note appears to be unfinished. Amadeusz sniffs at the unprofessionalism.
Ricki’s note simply reads as follows:
“DON’T POST IT DON’T POST IT DON’T POST IT DON’T DON’T DON’T DON’T DON’T”
Holy hell. Apocalyptic Log.
Have all the guards here succumbed to Dungeon Madness? Even the ones outside? That makes their earlier behavior make sense now.
Plan: basement
Ricki: point out the ladder trap and pressure plate to group again. Case triple lock chest. Move left. Move down
Kamau: avoid traps. Move left. Move down.
Amad: avoid traps. move left, move down
Mac: avoid traps. Switch helm with keys, Pickup keys. Move left. Move down
From the note, it sounds like our NPC friend my make a break for it if we open the door. If he does he might run smack into golem and die. No thank you. We can send Ricki or mac up to pull lever once golem is cleared.
Don’t want to do guards here because it is a high risk fight with an unknown reward. Basement is where we need to go so let’s focus on that. When we come back later with bomb and pillar we can reassess.
Shouldn’t we get the keys on the way?
Good point. Woups! Edited
If bombs required only Golem cores, we could presumably just throw the cores at the support beams and be done. They probably require the supply crates that we’ve only seen two of thus far as well. Given there’s only one or two rooms left, and the guard encounter here is blocking access to one of them we shouldn’t spend a bunch of time moving downstairs if we will need to move Kamau back upstairs immediately after. This is especially true given the traps between here and there that will require Ricki to help navigate them.
Preparing to go upwards, preparing for the largest interpose ever.
Ricki: Point false ladder rung and Pressure plate to everyone. Take golem core from kamau, rope from mac. Give axe and keys to molly, adding keys to keychain.
Kamau: Take def rings from mac and full helmet, giving him atk rings in return. Give golem core to ricki, pass buckler to mac.
Amadeusz: avoid traps that ricki pointed out, see if you can take the keys by the ladder and “use them” by passing them to molly’s keychain straightaway.
Mac: give rope to ricki, atk rings and full helmet to kamau. Take buckler from Kamau, receive keys from Ricki and Amadeusz, axe from ricki.
Sorry for the inventory management, LSN, but we had to consolidate the keys sometime, I’m trying to keep it to a bare minimum.
Rules question: can everyone take their action to do trades between multiple members, or are we limited to one trade per part member? I don’t know if Ricki can trade with both mac and Kamau with her one action. Please correct me if I’m wrong…
I think we’ve done 3-way trade before, but no time to dig it out of the archive
We have for sure done group trades in the past. It just takes using everyone involved’s actions.
I’m generally in favor of this. There’s still an entire room we haven’t seen here, and given we suspect the supply crates (only two of which have been seen) might be involved with bomb making, and we need Kamau to clear this combat, we shouldn’t waste time moving him downstairs until we’ve finished what we need him for upstairs. If we go for the basement now only to discover we need to access this room for bomb supplies or the like, it’ll take even longer to get Kamau et al back up here.
I agree that going upstairs now is a better move, but I’m afraid of what the giant dog and the guards will do to Kamau.
Assuming the guards all have 2 base attack + weapon, they will do a minimum of 14 damage, and the dog is probably buffed by the humans, so hits with its base attack +3. The greataxe can roll high for another 1 or 2 points of damage. Thats 17 minimun + the doggo’s base damage. The giant dog’s base damage is gonna be higher than a regular dog’s +2.
Meanwhile, Kamau will have 3 base def + 6 from armor and proficiency + 4 from heavy shield and proficiency + 4 from rings + 2 from helmet + 1 from mushroom. Unless I’m forgetting something, that is a def of 20. And 3 hit points (yes, and Dauntless).
I may have gotten the guards numbers wrong, but I’m not confident Kamau can tank that fight with his current hit points.
Just for completeness’ sake:
– Amadeusz’s ability “Pack Leader: Allied canines in the room have +1 Atk, while enemy canines in the room have -1 Atk.” subtracts 1 Atk. from that giant dog.
– “Eating this entire pile of candy at once restores 1 HP and grants +1 Atk, Def, and Mov for 5 turns.” (Spooky candy)
But your concern is valid. To risk or not to risk, that’s the question.
Amadeusz can also grant +1 def, besides the other things Tem mentioned, while the rest pile up on and down something. Even Mac will be able to help this time.
I thought guards were base attack 1, but admit I haven’t been able to pay as much attention this dungeon. That was the thought from previous dungeons. If that’s the case, the max dmg from guards is 3 base + 10 weapons. That gives 7 room to absorb the dog attack damage, which seems safe to me.
Given dire wolf is indeed 6, that is safe.
That seems to be correct. Amadeusz was attacked by three guards with longswords on Turn 14 and took no damage.
I bet there’s an actual entity that transforms regular places into dungeons and causes dungeon madness and it’ll be the last boss or something.
Honestly, I don’t know if that aspect will ever be explained. We had hopes at the caravan, because, well, it just popped up in the most unexpected place, there had to be some conspiracy to it – but there was nothing.
