Dungeon 11 Turn 10
————
The party gathers in the basement and Kamau immediately launches into combat against the guard and dogs. He deals significant damage to the guard, but doesn’t quite manage to take him out in a single blow. The guard and dogs then attack Kamau as well, but Amadeusz hurries in and plays a Hurtful Dirge on his enchanted violin (he originally considered remaining by the ladder while he does so, but realizes Kamau gains no benefit from Zing and Thrum’s effect unless he gets into combat range). As a result, Kamau takes only 1 damage from the combined attacks, while every enemy in the room also takes 1 damage. The pigeon drops dead immediately.
Ricki darts past the melee and reads the note on the wall in the hopes that it holds some hint to help figure out all these doors and keys.
“Key 2 grants access to the basement. It should only be carried by patrols carrying food for our dogs and contractors. Be careful not to drop those keys, or the food for that matter. It’ll attract more rats.”
Macadamia runs back up the ladder and grabs the keys hanging on the wall that the golem used to guard. He sees there’s a tag on them with the number 5. He then hurries back downstairs to hear the rest of Amadeusz’s song.
Unfortunate. We’ve learned that the def bonus from dogs stack for guards. Also that the imp counts as an enemy. Also Also that pigeons have 1 hp (yay!)
Plan: House Cleaning
Kamau: Attack Guard. Cleave the rest.
Ricki: Move up. Loot Chest
Mac: Move up. Loot Chest
Amad: move up and read note by door. Unequip siegesword. Stay by door and out of sight of any guards walking in
This should clear the dogs and set us up nicely for the patrol that should enter next turn.
Here’s hoping for some good loot!
Maybe have Amadeusz read the note upstairs instead of playing pipes? Maybe he’ll get lucky with the 20% but odds are he won’t.
Yeah, seems good idea.
What they said
I’m curious what is the significance of Imp damage thing being black, while everyone else has red.
Presumably his blood is black. I’m more intrigued by the fact he can actually be hurt and I’m wondering if it’s possible to clean the dungeon without interacting with him.
Isn’t this plan a little careless/risky?
What about the group of guards that the other pigeon summoned, aren’t they due to enter that room (the above one) this turn, leaving Ricki, Macadamia and Amadeusz exposed to their attacks?
The rule of movement we’ve seen from guards searching is
Enter room and attack anything they see.
Next turn. Move about room and attack anything they find
.
There may be an exception with pigeon directing them to this room instead of them clearing spider and bugs. But i still think they won’t immediately search upon entry (it’s a new room for them anyways and you stop moving when you explore right?)
Re: “Unfortunate. We’ve learned that the def bonus from dogs stack for guards.”
I’m going back through the Guard Outpost as we prepare for the Research Facility. I’m looking at this Turn and wondering if what happened here is that this specific Guard has all three of those Guard Dogs as his pets, due to an Ability similar to Cordy’s Mushroom Master Ability. If the ability to stack def bonuses from Guard Dogs is unique to this individual Guard then that would be better for us than if the def bonuses always stacked unconditionally.
This would be an interesting possibility since it would indicate that the higher ranking normal Guards can have Abilities like our own characters do.
